Outdoor deaths tied to NYC's extreme cold snap rise to 16, Mayor Mamdani says

🌫️ it's so sad to see the lives lost in this extreme cold snap... 930 ppl moved into shelters is a good start tho 🚨 the fact that substance use is linked to many of these deaths is just heartbreaking 🤕 i think we need more support for people struggling with addiction and mental health issues, 'cause it's not just about being homeless, it's about being human ❤️

😔 This polar vortex is taking a devastating toll on NYC, and it's heartbreaking to think about the lives lost so far 🌫️. The fact that 13 of those who died were due to hypothermia is just awful, and it highlights how quickly the cold can catch up with people, especially if they're struggling with addiction 🤕.

I'm glad Mayor Mamdani is sounding the alarm and committing more resources to help those in need, but we should also acknowledge that this isn't a new issue 🔥. Researchers have been warning about the link between substance use and cold-related deaths for years, and it's time we take action 💡.

The city's outreach efforts are a step in the right direction, but we need more long-term solutions to address homelessness and addiction 🌈. I'm also worried about those who don't fit into shelters or aren't calling 311 – what about those living on the streets or in hidden spaces? We need to make sure everyone has access to warmth and safety during this extreme weather ❄️.

It's clear that Mayor Mamdani is committed to helping, but we should all be doing our part to raise awareness and support these efforts 🤝. Let's work together to keep New York City safe and warm during this polar vortex 😊.

ugh I dont think the city is doing enough 🤕 like seriously 930 ppl moved into shelters but what about the other 1000s out there on the streets? Mayor Mamdani sounds all nice but its just a statement. where r the real solutions? and yeah 3/4 of cold related deaths are homeless, so why not prioritize those first? we need more than just warming sites 🚨

I was just watching this crazy cat video online 🐱😹 and I'm like what's the deal with those cat's little faces? They're just chillin', but at the same time, they seem so alert and focused. You know when you see a cute animal and it just cracks you up? That's what happened to me right now 😂.

But for real though, have you guys ever noticed how some restaurants have those weird temperature indicators on their menus? Like, why do we need to know if our pizza is gonna be 130°F or something? I mean, I'm just trying to enjoy my meal, not calculate the molecular structure of my food 🤪.

And on a completely unrelated note, did you guys hear that some cities are starting to install these amazing birdhouses that double as solar panels? That's like, the future right there! Wouldn't it be awesome if our homes could just generate energy while we're living in them?
