Parents sue Katy ISD, claiming child fell out of emergency door of bus, lawsuit states

Parents of a student who fell out of an emergency exit door on a Katy ISD bus have filed a lawsuit against the school district and the bus company, SelectTransportation Resources LLC.

According to the lawsuit obtained by ABC13, the incident occurred in January when students were on their way to school. The bus driver allegedly operated recklessly at a high speed, causing one student to be "thrown against the emergency exit of the door and falling outside the bus to the ground."

The student suffered severe injuries as a result, but the exact details of the injuries are not specified in the lawsuit.

The parents are suing the school district for alleged negligence, while also targeting SelectTransportation Resources LLC for design defect, manufacturing defect, marketing failure, failure to warn, negligence, and gross negligence.

The lawsuit is seeking compensation for medical expenses and physical pain. ABC13 attempted to reach out to Katy ISD and the transportation company for comment but has yet to receive a response.

The incident highlights concerns about school bus safety, particularly when it comes to emergency exit doors that are designed to open in the event of an emergency.

๐Ÿšจ๐Ÿ˜ฑ this is so disturbing i feel bad for the student and their family ๐Ÿค• the parents need to be heard but im not surprised that they didnt get a response from the school district or the bus company ๐Ÿ˜’ its like they're trying to sweep it under the rug or something. how can an emergency exit door just malfunction like that? ๐Ÿคฏ hasnt the bus company or the school district checked all their buses for this issue? ๐Ÿšซ i hope the lawsuit brings about some changes in safety measures... maybe they can make those emergency doors more secure ๐Ÿ’ช

๐ŸšŒ๐Ÿ˜ฑ๐Ÿ‘ถ๐Ÿ’” A bus is not a rollercoaster! ๐ŸŽ ๐Ÿ˜ก Kids should be able to ride safely to and from school without risking their lives! ๐Ÿค• This incident highlights the importance of prioritizing student safety on school buses. The parents' lawsuit is a step in the right direction, but we need more action from schools and transportation companies to ensure our kids are protected. ๐Ÿšจ๐Ÿ‘ฎโ€โ™€๏ธ

OMG, this is so sad ๐Ÿ˜”! I mean, who wants to see a student get hurt like that? ๐Ÿค• The fact that the parents are suing the school district and the bus company is understandable, but can't we just think about how we can make our buses safer in general? ๐Ÿš‘๐ŸšŒ Like, what if there were more safety measures put in place to prevent accidents like this from happening? ๐Ÿ’ก Maybe regular checks on emergency exit doors could be a good start? ๐Ÿค”

๐Ÿ˜• This is super sad news... like what if that door didn't just open at all? ๐Ÿคฏ A kid's life is literally on the line every time they're riding a bus, and I don't think it's fair to the parents or the student that we're still having these incidents. The bus company should really be looking into why this happened - was it due to driver error, a faulty door mechanism? We need better safety measures in place before someone gets seriously hurt again... ๐Ÿšจ

Oh man, like, come on! The bus driver should be held accountable for what happened! Reckless driving is never okay, you know? ๐Ÿšซ I mean, what kind of parent lets their kid ride a school bus without teaching them basic safety rules? ๐Ÿคฆโ€โ™€๏ธ It's not the fault of the parents or the school district that the bus was moving too fast. That's on the driver! And also, have you seen the emergency exit doors on those buses? They're literally designed to open in case of an emergency... it's like they're begging for something like this to happen! ๐Ÿ˜ฑ The fact that the student suffered severe injuries is just devastating. I hope the parents get the justice they deserve and the bus company takes responsibility for their design flaws too ๐Ÿ’ธ. This incident highlights how school buses need better safety measures in place, period! ๐Ÿš—

๐Ÿ˜ฑ Can't believe this is happening on our school buses! I mean, I know we need to be safe and responsible drivers, but a high-speed chase just because there's a kid falling out the door? ๐Ÿšจ That's just ridiculous. And now these parents are suing for negligence... like what can you even do? It's not like they can put up some kind of force field around their kids on the bus.

And seriously, shouldn't we be focusing on how to make our buses safer in the first place? Like, what design changes could be made to prevent something like this from happening again? And why isn't anyone talking about the fact that these buses have emergency exit doors that are supposed to open for a reason?

I'm all for holding people accountable, but we need to be thinking bigger here. We need to make sure our schools are prioritizing safety above all else. ๐Ÿค”

Omg, my heart just went out to that poor student ๐Ÿค•๐Ÿšจ this is just so scary and avoidable. I mean, who operates a school bus at high speed? That's just crazy talk! ๐Ÿ™„ And then to have your child fall out of an emergency exit door... it's like, what were they thinking?! ๐Ÿคฏ It's not like the bus was going that fast or anything, but still, it's just so reckless.

I'm glad the parents are taking action and fighting for their child's rights. They deserve justice and compensation for the pain and suffering their kid went through ๐Ÿ’ธ๐Ÿ’•. And I hope this incident brings about some changes in school bus safety policies and procedures ๐Ÿšจ๐Ÿ’ช. We need to make sure our kids are safe on the way to school, that's just basic human decency ๐Ÿ˜Š.

๐Ÿ˜ž They should've been more careful with the kids on that bus ๐ŸšŒ๐Ÿ’” What's wrong with these bus drivers? Can't they just drive at a normal speed for once? It's not like it's gonna take forever โฑ๏ธ to get the kids to school ๐Ÿ˜’. The parents have every right to sue, though... I mean, those injuries could've been way worse ๐Ÿค•. They should also be looking into how that bus company designs and builds their buses ๐Ÿ‘€.

I'm literally livin' in a world where schools can't even get basic bus safety right ๐Ÿคฏ! I mean, what's next? Are we gonna sue Toyota for the seatbelts not working properly on their cars? It's not like the parents are being unreasonable here, but it just feels like they're trying to get rich off this incident. And what's with the lawsuit against SelectTransportation Resources LLC for design and manufacturing defects? You can't blame a company for having a faulty product, that's what quality control is for ๐Ÿ’ฏ. I'm all for holding schools accountable for student safety, but come on, this seems like an overreaction to me ๐Ÿคทโ€โ™‚๏ธ.

๐Ÿšจ๐Ÿ˜ฌ This is just terrible. I mean, who thought it was okay to drive a bus at such high speed with kids on board? ๐Ÿคฆโ€โ™‚๏ธ And now one poor kid is paying for it, literally. The parents are right to fight for what's fair and make sure this never happens again. ๐Ÿ’ธ Those bus companies need to take responsibility for the safety of their drivers and vehicles. It's a huge safety concern, especially with emergency exit doors ๐Ÿšช. This should be a wake-up call for everyone involved, from the school district to the transportation company. ๐Ÿ‘ฎโ€โ™‚๏ธ We need more scrutiny on these matters before someone gets seriously hurt again. ๐Ÿ˜•

man I'm still shaking my head thinking about this... parents doing everything they can to make sure their kid gets justice ๐Ÿค•. like who expects a 2nd grade student to fly out of a bus and land on the ground?! ๐Ÿšซ emergency exit doors are supposed to be super safe, right? ๐Ÿšจ it's crazy that these companies and school districts aren't taking this more seriously, like they're just hoping it'll go away or something ๐Ÿ™„.

and what really gets me is that these parents know their kid is still struggling, and now they have to fight for medical bills and pain management ๐Ÿ’ธ. it's heartbreaking thinking about the long road ahead for them and their family... just hope justice prevails soon ๐Ÿคž.

I'm telling you, this is a total mess ๐Ÿ™„. The parents are suing the whole system - the bus company, the school district... like, what's next? Are they gonna sue the bus driver too? "Hey, I'm just doing my job, but somehow your kid got hurt because of me"? ๐Ÿ˜‚ Get real.

And what's with all these claims against SelectTransportation Resources LLC? A design defect or manufacturing issue might be one thing, but are they really to blame for the driver being reckless? It sounds like a classic case of "the dog ate my bus" ๐Ÿ•. The parents need to focus on getting their kid the help they need instead of throwing money around at companies that aren't even responsible.

And another thing, what's with the lack of comment from the school district and the transportation company? You'd think they'd want to get involved in something as serious as this. I mean, come on guys... your kid almost got killed ๐Ÿšจ. Show some compassion!

I'm getting really frustrated with this one... ๐Ÿค• a parent sues because their kid got hurt on a bus and now the whole district is gonna pay for it? What about the bus driver's reckless behavior? That's what should be held accountable! And those emergency exit doors are designed to open in case of an emergency, so it's not like the school was trying to be sneaky or anything. It just goes to show that these lawsuits can be super messy and make it hard for schools to keep their buses safe... ๐Ÿšง๐Ÿ˜ฉ

I mean, I get why these parents are suing, but honestly, isn't this just another example of how we're always trying to sue our way out of problems? ๐Ÿค”๐Ÿšจ Can't they see that accidents happen, even with the best precautions? The thing is, the bus company and school district are already taking steps to improve safety measures, like regular inspections and driver training. But do you think that's enough to satisfy these parents? And what about all the other schools and buses out there? Are they going to have to start retrofitting their emergency exit doors just because one incident happened in Katy ISD?

It's also weird that they're suing the bus company for design defects and manufacturing failures... didn't they, like, buy the buses from these companies too?! ๐Ÿค‘ I'm not saying the companies are entirely blameless, but let's not forget who's really in charge here - the parents. They need to take responsibility for their kids' safety, not just pass it off on someone else. ๐Ÿšซ๐Ÿ’”

Bus companies should really start taking more responsibility for their fleet's condition ๐Ÿšจ๐Ÿ’”. I mean, it's not just the driver's fault, but also the design and manufacturing quality of those emergency exit doors... they're basically a ticking time bomb waiting to happen ๐Ÿ’ฅ. The parents are right to sue both the school district and the bus company, imo. It's like, how can you expect people to be safe on these buses if the company is just gonna skimp out on maintenance and safety features? ๐Ÿค”

OMG, can you even imagine?! ๐Ÿคฏ This is so sad and freaky! I mean, who's thinking about speeding on a bus with kids on board? And what's up with these emergency exit doors just getting thrown around like that? ๐Ÿ˜ฒ It's like they're not even designed to keep the kids safe.

I feel so bad for the poor student who got hurt. My heart is literally breaking thinking about all those injuries ๐Ÿค•. The lawsuit is definitely due, imo. They need to hold these companies accountable for their negligence.

This incident highlights just how important it is for us to have better school bus safety measures in place. Like, what's the point of even having emergency exit doors if they're not going to do their job properly? ๐Ÿšจ It's just so avoidable, and I'm sure we'll be seeing more cases like this unless something changes.

I hope the parents get the compensation they need, but also... this is just a wake-up call for all of us. We need to make our schools safer, period ๐Ÿ’ช

Ugh, this is so disturbing ๐Ÿค•! I mean, can you even imagine being on a bus and hearing that door open? My kid's friends actually use those buses to get to school every day... what if it was one of them? ๐Ÿšจ The fact that the driver was speeding at all is just crazy driving. And now this poor student has to deal with the aftermath, which must be super tough on them and their family. ๐Ÿ˜” I'm no expert, but shouldn't there be more checks in place to make sure buses are driven safely, especially when it comes to emergency exits? This lawsuit better get some answers for these parents... ๐Ÿ’ผ

๐Ÿšจ๐ŸšŒ๐Ÿ˜ฑ This is so sad ๐Ÿค•, can't believe what happened on that bus ๐ŸšŒ๐Ÿ˜ต. Parents have every right to sue and fight for their kid's safety ๐Ÿ’ช. It's crazy how a bus driver can be so reckless ๐Ÿ˜ก and put lives at risk ๐Ÿšซ. Emergency exit doors are supposed to save people in emergencies not hurt them ๐Ÿคฆโ€โ™€๏ธ.

I'm all for holding the school district and bus company accountable for this tragedy ๐Ÿ“. It's not okay that we don't have more safety protocols in place for buses, especially when it comes to emergency exits โš ๏ธ. We need to make sure our kids are safe on their way to school ๐Ÿซ.

This lawsuit is a big step towards making things right ๐Ÿ’ฏ. I hope the parents get justice and their kid gets the medical help they need โค๏ธ. We should all be outraged by this incident ๐Ÿ˜ค and demand better bus safety measures for everyone ๐Ÿš—๐Ÿ’จ

๐Ÿšจ this is such a scary thing happened 2 a kid on a bus!!! they're lucky 2 b alive ๐Ÿ™ u gotta wonder how the driver was driving so reckless 2 begin with... and now his parents r suing 2 get compensation for the injuries they got ๐Ÿค‘ it's not just about the money tho, it's about makin sure these kinds of things dont happen again ๐Ÿšซ hopefully the school district & SelectTransportation Resources LLC r gonna take responsibility 4 their part in this incident ๐Ÿ’ฏ
