Parents of a student who fell out of an emergency exit door on a Katy ISD bus have filed a lawsuit against the school district and the bus company, SelectTransportation Resources LLC.

According to the lawsuit obtained by ABC13, the incident occurred in January when students were on their way to school. The bus driver allegedly operated recklessly at a high speed, causing one student to be "thrown against the emergency exit of the door and falling outside the bus to the ground."

The student suffered severe injuries as a result, but the exact details of the injuries are not specified in the lawsuit.

The parents are suing the school district for alleged negligence, while also targeting SelectTransportation Resources LLC for design defect, manufacturing defect, marketing failure, failure to warn, negligence, and gross negligence.

The lawsuit is seeking compensation for medical expenses and physical pain. ABC13 attempted to reach out to Katy ISD and the transportation company for comment but has yet to receive a response.

The incident highlights concerns about school bus safety, particularly when it comes to emergency exit doors that are designed to open in the event of an emergency.

🚨 this is such a scary thing happened 2 a kid on a bus!!! they're lucky 2 b alive 🙏 u gotta wonder how the driver was driving so reckless 2 begin with... and now his parents r suing 2 get compensation for the injuries they got 🤑 it's not just about the money tho, it's about makin sure these kinds of things dont happen again 🚫 hopefully the school district & SelectTransportation Resources LLC r gonna take responsibility 4 their part in this incident 💯
