Pikachu and pals go wild: Pokémon theme park opens in Tokyo

Pokémon Fans Flock to Tokyo as World's First Amusement Park Opens

Tokyo is gearing up for a wilder February than anyone anticipated, thanks to the grand opening of Pokémon's first-ever amusement park in the city. PokéPark Kanto, which debuted on 5th February, promises an immersive experience that will transport visitors into a whimsical world teeming with beloved Pokémon creatures.

Located in Tokyo's Inagi suburb, approximately half an hour from downtown, the 26,000-square-meter park boasts more than 600 models of Pokémon spread across its two main areas: Pokémon Forest and Sedge Town. Visitors can roam through the forested terrain, where they'll encounter lifelike statues of their favorite creatures in naturalistic tableaus.

Tickets for the park are being sold via a lottery system, with standard adult tickets priced at ¥7,900 (approximately £38) and priority passes going for ¥14,000 (£66). The park has been designed by none other than Junichi Masuda, one of the original Pokémon creators, who aimed to recreate an atmosphere akin to observing these fantastical creatures in their natural habitat.

Upon entering the park, visitors are greeted with a Pokémon parade in Sedge Town square. They can enjoy Pokémon-themed food, play at interactive games, and even take part in a live Pokémon battle featuring animatronics. The real-life Pokémon Centre has also been recreated within the park, where guests can purchase exclusive merchandise.

This new theme park marks an exciting development for the Pokémon brand, which boasts an estimated lifetime revenue of $150 billion – far surpassing Disney properties such as Star Wars and Marvel. With its vast profits expected to rise in 2026, the allure of PokéPark Kanto is set to become irresistible to fans worldwide.

However, it's worth noting that the influx of tourists could exacerbate existing concerns about overcrowding and anti-foreigner sentiment in Japan. As the country navigates these challenges, Pokémon fans can look forward to an unforgettable experience at this groundbreaking theme park.

OH MY GOSH I'M SO EXCITED TO HEAR THAT POKÉMON'S FIRST AMUSEMENT PARK HAS FINALLY OPENED IN TOKYO!!! 🎉👍 i mean its not every day you get to walk around and see all these amazing pokemon statues in a whole forested area, its like stepping into a real life game!! 🌳 the fact that the creator of pokémon himself designed this park is just the icing on the cake 🍰 and i love how they have interactive games and food too! 🍔👀 idk about some people saying it might be hard for japan to handle all these tourists tho, but im sure its gonna be worth it!!

😊 The fact that a whole amusement park is being dedicated to Pokémon just shows how much of an impact the franchise has had on pop culture 🤯! I mean, who wouldn't want to immerse themselves in a world where Pikachu and Squirtle are as real as your next meal 🍔? But, at the same time, it's got me thinking about how this could bring in some much-needed economic boost for Japan 💸. The park's unique design and interactive features must be pretty pricey, but if it can draw in all those fans, it's gotta be worth it 💪. Plus, I love that Junichi Masuda is behind the scenes – he's a legend in the gaming world 🔥! Can't wait to see how this park shakes things up for Pokémon enthusiasts worldwide 🌎

🤔 I'm thinking the whole PokéPark Kanto thing is kinda a big deal for Tokyo's tourism industry... but, at the same time, I'm not sure if it's all good news 🤑 The extra foot traffic is definitely gonna cause some headaches for locals, and with prices like that, I worry about who'll be able to afford tickets 😬. Still, if you're a die-hard Pokémon fan, I guess it's worth the splurge 💸. Junichi Masuda did an amazing job designing the park, it sounds like a real-life Pokémon paradise 🌳!

OMG, I'm beyond stoked 🤩 for the new PokéPark Kanto in Tokyo! It's like a dream come true 🌟 for all us Pokémon fans out there 🎉. The attention to detail is insane 🔥 - from the life-like statues to the immersive forest terrain 🌳. Can't wait to join the Pokémon parade 🎊 and play those interactive games 🤖. I hope they have a Pokémon Centre on site with exclusive merch, that would be a major win 💯! Only sad about the crowds and potential issues, but overall, this park is going to be EPIC 🔥👏

omg just saw the pics from poképark kanto its literally a dream come true lol they have so many cool pokemon statues and interactive games i cant wait to visit 🤩🎉 anyone planning to go in march?? 😅

I'm not sure I buy the hype around this new PokéPark Kanto... ¥7,900 for a ticket is pretty steep, especially if it's just gonna be a bunch of statues and animatronics 🤑. And what's up with the lottery system? Sounds like they're trying to create artificial scarcity to drive up demand. I'd love to see some numbers on how many tickets are actually selling vs how many people want in.

And have you seen those prices for priority passes? ¥14,000 is just crazy! That's almost as much as a plane ticket from Tokyo to LA 🛫️. What kind of exclusivity are they offering at that price point?

Not to mention the concerns about overcrowding and anti-foreigner sentiment in Japan... I get it, theme parks can be crowded, but this one seems like it's gonna be a major tourist destination. I hope they're prepared for the logistics.

I'll believe it when I see some solid financials on this thing. Anyone have any links to some investor reports or something? 🤔

awww yayyy 🎉👍 i'm so down for poképark kanto! it's like a dream come true for all us pokemon super fans 😆 i mean who wouldn't wanna walk around and see all those adorable pokémon statues in real life? 🤩 and the fact that junichi masuda was involved in the design is just, like, so cool 😎 plus, the idea of getting to play interactive games and take part in a live pokemon battle sounds like so much fun 🎮👊 i'm def gonna be trying to get tickets for this ASAP, fingers crossed! 💪

OMG I'm so down for this 🤩! As a parent I gotta say I'm more excited for my little one to enjoy it than me lol 🎉! They're gonna love the immersive experience and all the interactive games and Pokémon battles 💥! It's gonna be such a fun day out for the whole family. And can you believe it's designed by one of the original creators?! Mind blown 💭! I'm curious how they handled the crowds though, hope it's not too chaotic for little ones 🤞. Anyone planning to go? 🎟️

I'm literally beyond hyped for this PokéPark thingy... I mean what's not to love? It's like stepping into a dream world where you get to hang out with Pikachu and all its cute friends 🐰😍! The fact that it was designed by one of the original creators, Junichi Masuda, is just the icing on the cake 🎂. And can we talk about the food for a second? Pokémon-themed grub sounds like so much fun, I'm already salivating at the thought of those adorable little Poké Balls as snacks 🍿👀.

But seriously, this park is going to bring so much joy and excitement to fans worldwide! It's not just about the rides and attractions (although let's be real, who doesn't love a good Pokémon battle? 🔥). It's about creating an immersive experience that lets you connect with your favorite creatures in a whole new way. And can we talk about the merch game? The fact that they've recreated the Pokémon Centre within the park is like the ultimate fan dream come true 🛍️.

I know some people are worried about overcrowding and all that, but honestly, I think it's worth it. It's one of those rare experiences that brings everyone together, you know? So bring on the tourists and let's make this thing a reality! 💥

omg I'm so hyped for pokémon fans!! 😆 I've been waiting for this day for like forever! The attention to detail is insane - I mean, who wouldn't want to walk through a forest filled with life-sized pkmn statues? 🌳👀 And the fact that it was designed by Junichi Masuda himself? 🤯 That's just dream come true!

I do worry about overcrowding tho... I feel bad for anyone who might get overwhelmed or stuck in the crowds. but at the same time, this is a once-in-a-lifetime experience and everyone should be able to enjoy it if they can manage it! 😊 What's your fave pokémon and which area of the park are you most excited to explore? 🤔

OMG, can you even imagine walking into a real-life Pokémon forest 🌳👀?! I'm literally living for this new PokéPark Kanto in Tokyo! The attention to detail and theming is on another level 🔥. And the fact that Junichi Masuda, one of the original creators, designed it himself? Mind. Blown 💥. I mean, who wouldn't want to experience their favorite Pokémon creatures up close and personal? 🐰💖 It's like stepping into a real-life version of the anime or games 😆. But at the same time, I'm a little concerned about the crowds and tourist strain on Japan 🤕. Still, for die-hard Pokémon fans, it's gonna be totally worth it 💸. Anyone else planning to catch 'em all? 🎲
