Police call off separate searches for missing teen boy and another man off two Sydney beaches

Australian Authorities Suspend Beach Searches Amid New Year's Eve Tragedy

Emergency services in New South Wales have suspended separate searches for a teenage boy and a male swimmer off two Sydney beaches, amidst a chaotic New Year's Eve period that has claimed the lives of six people across the country.

A 16-year-old boy who was on board a boat that capsized at Palm Beach is still unaccounted for. A 47-year-old man died in the incident, and his body was recovered from the water by surf lifesavers. The missing teenager is believed to have been a passenger on the same boat, which capsized amid rough conditions.

Meanwhile, a separate search for a 22-year-old man who went missing at Coogee Beach has also been suspended. Sushan Khadka, 22, was last seen struggling in the water at Coogee on New Year's Day, and police have conducted extensive land and water-based searches without finding him.

Coogee Surf Life Saving Club President Ben Heenan warned that large surf had caused several swimmers to be swept out of the water. Unfortunately, one of them did not make it back to shore, prompting an immediate search operation. Despite extensive efforts, Sushan Khadka's whereabouts remain unknown.

The suspensions come after six lives were lost at Australian beaches during the New Year period. A 34-year-old man died at Green Patch beach in Jervis Bay on Saturday, while a 25-year-old woman was found dead at Maroubra Beach earlier this week due to warnings about hazardous surf conditions.

In other incidents, a 45-year-old woman died at Dunbogan Beach near Port Macquarie on New Year's Day, and a 35-year-old Irish man lost his life at Whitehaven beach in Queensland. A search operation for a 32-year-old man who went missing while snorkelling off the coast of Western Australia has been scaled back.

The Australian summer drowning toll since December 1 has reached 29, according to Royal Lifesaving Australia.

πŸ€•πŸ˜± This is just devastating news πŸŒŠπŸ’” Six lives lost already this year and it's only mid-January... The thought of those two people, still out there in the water, gives me chills 😟. I feel so sorry for their families and friends who are left with all these unanswered questions. It's not just about the numbers, it's about the human lives that have been lost. πŸŒŽπŸ’–

πŸ˜• That's just heartbreaking πŸ€•. I mean, six lives lost at Aussie beaches already in 2025? It's like, what can we do to prevent these tragedies? 🌊 The surf conditions were pretty rough on NYE, but that shouldn't have meant people got swept out and... you know πŸ˜”. Anyway, hope the family of the missing teens and Khadka gets some answers soon πŸ’”. This summer drowning toll is getting really concerning 🚨.

πŸŒŠπŸ˜• I feel so sorry for the families of those lost at sea πŸ™. Six lives lost in one day is just devastating πŸ’”. I know Aussie beaches are known for being beautiful but also super treacherous when it's rough out there πŸŒͺ️. The fact that they're suspending beach searches now doesn't change the tragic circumstances and it's clear these conditions can be deadly ⚰️.

I hope whoever is still missing gets found ASAP, it's been way too long πŸ•°οΈ. I'm so worried about those families who are still searching for their loved ones πŸ’”. We need to raise awareness about beach safety and take precautions when swimming or surfing in rough conditions 🌊πŸ’ͺ. It's just not worth the risk 😬.

The stats on summer drowning tolls are crazy, 29 lives lost already? That's just heartbreaking 🀯. More needs to be done to prevent these tragic incidents from happening again πŸ’₯.

ugh this is so frustrating 🀯! six people already lost their lives and what do we get? a suspension in beach searches at Coogee Beach? πŸ™„ like come on guys, prioritize finding the missing guy! i'm sure he's still out there somewhere, struggling to stay alive. 29 people already dead due to reckless swimming and it's just business as usual 🚨😑 what's next?! we need more support and better safety measures at our beaches, not suspension of critical search operations πŸ’”

Ugh I'm still reeling from all these beach tragedies πŸ€•πŸ˜’. The suspensions are kinda justified tho, it's not safe for the authorities to keep searching in such rough conditions β›ˆοΈπŸŒŠ. They gotta prioritize their safety & resources. But at the same time, you can't just give up hope on those missing people πŸ™πŸ’”. It's just so frustrating that six lives were lost already... 29 drowning deaths since Dec 1 is a bloody statistic πŸ“ŠπŸ˜±. And what's with all these beach warnings? Can't we get some consistent info on the surf conditions? πŸ€·β€β™€οΈ

This is so bloody horrific πŸ€•πŸŒŠ! Six people lose their lives at Aussie beaches just one day into the new year? It's absolutely mental πŸ’₯! I mean, what were they thinking out there? The suspensions are a good call, but it's just too late for that poor 16-year-old kid... my heart goes out to his family 🀯. And 29 people already dead since Dec 1? That's way too many 🚨. We need some serious beach safety measures in place ASAP πŸ™!

😞 my heart goes out to the families of the people who lost their lives in the water over New Year's Eve 🌊 it's just so senseless and tragic πŸ’” the surf must have been absolutely huge for a guy to get swept out like that 🀯 i feel for the 16-year-old who's still missing, hope he's found safe & sound πŸ’• these numbers are getting crazy πŸ“‰ 29 people gone in just one month... it's gotta stop somehow πŸ™

Ugh, can't believe it's come to this πŸ€•... I mean, what happened to these young people? Six lives lost already and the search for two more folks is being called off because of rough conditions? It's like they just gave up hope πŸ’”. Back in my day, we didn't have all these fancy lifeguards with drones and stuff; we relied on good old-fashioned common sense and a bit of luck to stay safe while swimming πŸŠβ€β™‚οΈ. I swear, kids these days need to learn how to respect the ocean... it's not just a playground anymore πŸ˜”.

Ugh πŸ€• I'm not surprised about this... another New Year's Eve disaster and they're already suspending beach searches? It's just a matter of time before someone else gets swept out to sea. All these surf lifesavers are doing is risking their lives for the sake of others, and what do we get in return? A bunch of statistics and warnings about hazardous surf conditions... like that's ever gonna stop people from taking stupid risks πŸ€¦β€β™‚οΈ. And six lives lost already? 29 since December 1? It's like Australia is just asking to be tested by the ocean every summer πŸŒŠπŸ’€. Mark my words, someone else will die out there soon...

πŸŒŠπŸ˜” Man... six lives lost already this year and it's only January πŸ€•. Can't believe how quickly things can go wrong on our beautiful beaches πŸ–οΈ. Suspending the searches for now is probably the right thing to do, but it's just a temporary reprieve from the reality of what happened πŸ˜”. The Aussie summer drowning toll is already at 29... 29! That number should be zero, not 29 πŸš«πŸ’”. We need to find ways to prevent these tragedies from happening in the first place πŸ’‘. More than ever, we need to talk about ocean safety and how to respect our oceans 🌊. Let's get real for a sec... do we really know what's going on with all this surf and weather? πŸ€” We need more support for families of those who've lost loved ones πŸ’•.

πŸ˜” it's like we're not learnin' from past 😩 the Aussie beaches are just gettin' more treacherous 🌊 every year and still people keep goin out there without a care in the world πŸ’¦ I mean, six lives lost already? It's just too much πŸ€• they need to rethink their beach safety measures or somethin'... maybe invest in some better surveillance systems or more lifeguards πŸš£β€β™‚οΈ it's just common sense πŸ™„

Ugh, this is just heartbreaking πŸ€•πŸ˜”. Six lives lost already and the beach searches are being suspended due to rough conditions 😩. Can't believe the Aussie summer is already taking its toll on people's lives, especially the young ones 🀯. I feel for Sushan Khadka's family who's still waiting for answers about their loved one's disappearance πŸ™.

I'm not surprised that large surf caused several swimmers to get swept out of the water 🌊🚨. It's a warning sign we need to take seriously and be more careful when hitting the beaches during rough conditions β›ˆοΈ. The authorities should definitely do more to prepare for and prevent such incidents in the future 🀝.

It's just devastating that six lives are lost, it feels like Australia is losing its young ones too fast πŸ’”. I hope they can learn from these incidents and take action to make our beaches safer for everyone πŸŒ΄πŸ’– #BeachSafetyMatters #SummerDrowningToll #StaySafeAtTheBeach

😞 The suspension of searches at Sydney beaches is a somber reminder of the risks associated with recreational water activities during the peak Australian summer months. The six lives lost so far this year are a tragic statistic, and it's essential that authorities take proactive measures to mitigate these risks 🌊. I'd like to see more investment in public education campaigns about beach safety and the importance of following guidelines for water sports ⚠️. Furthermore, the fact that search operations have been scaled back in Western Australia highlights the need for a national coordination system to effectively respond to water-related incidents across the country 🀝.

πŸŒŠπŸ’” man oh man this is so sad cant believe six lives lost at beaches in one new year its like a nightmare come true the authorities are trying their best but safety of people always comes first gotta stop these search operations and focus on making sure everyone gets home safe πŸ™ meanwhile we gotta think of those poor teens like sushan khadka 22 and that boy from palm beach who is still missing out there πŸ˜” our thoughts r with the families and loved ones of those who lost their lives 🌴

I mean what's up with these Aussie beaches? One minute it's all fun and games, the next some poor soul is swept out to sea 🀯🌊. Six lives lost already this year? That's crazy! And now they're suspending searches 'cause of rough conditions? I get that safety first and all, but can't they just send in a drone or something to look for these dudes? 🚨πŸ’₯ It's just so frustrating when you see these tragic incidents happen. Did the surf really have that bad?! πŸ€”

Ugh, six people lost their lives over the new year period? That's just crazy! The beaches are beautiful and all, but you gotta be careful out there 🀯. I'm so worried about Sushan Khadka, his family must be going through hell not knowing what happened to him. And poor 16-year-old boy on the boat... my heart goes out to his family too πŸ˜”. It's just a harsh reminder that we need to respect the ocean and take safety precautions 🌊. I know it's gonna sound weird, but I kinda wish they'd found more ways to warn people about those hazardous surf conditions instead of having to tell them after it's too late... anyway, RIP to all those who lost their lives πŸ™.

πŸ€• This is exactly what we need more of - government complacency and lack of preparedness for emergencies! 🚨 I mean, come on, suspending beach searches? What's next? Not having enough lifeguards on duty? It's just not right.

I'm thinking, maybe the problem isn't the surf conditions, but rather the infrastructure we have in place to deal with these situations. We need to be more proactive, more preventative. Instead of just responding to emergencies after they happen, let's think about how we can prevent them from happening in the first place.

And what about the families of those who lost their lives? Don't they deserve answers and support? It's not just about the physical toll, but also the emotional one. We need to be more accountable for our safety nets. πŸ’”

πŸ€• ugh, another new year and it feels like australia is getting more brutal by the minute... 🌊 i mean, six lives lost in one weekend? that's just crazy. what are they even doing out there? the surf lifesavers are literally risking their own lives to try and find these people... πŸ™ and all for what? so we can get a bunch of Instagram-worthy pics on new year's eve? it's not worth it, fam πŸ˜”
