A Search Underway for Missing Today Show Host's Mother in Arizona
A frantic search is underway in Arizona for the missing mother of Savannah Guthrie, the host of NBC's Today show. 84-year-old Nancy Guthrie was last seen at her home near Tucson on Saturday evening, and police believe she may have been abducted.
According to law enforcement sources, there were signs of forced entry into the residence and blood found at the scene. The Pima County Sheriff's Office has launched a massive search operation, with drones, search dogs, and volunteers combing the area.
Chris Nanos, the Pima County Sheriff, emphasized the urgency of finding Guthrie soon due to her limited physical mobility and reliance on life-saving medication. "It's been better than 24 hours, and the family tells us if she doesn't have those meds, it can become fatal," he said.
Investigators believe Guthrie was taken from her home against her will, possibly in the middle of the night. Nanos denied any foul play at this stage but acknowledged that the case is now being treated as a crime scene rather than a typical missing persons case.
A $2,500 reward has been offered for images, videos or information leading to the arrest of those involved in Guthrie's disappearance. The FBI is also assisting with the investigation.
Guthrie's daughter Savannah, 54, has been absent from work on the Today show and released a heartfelt Instagram statement asking for prayers for her mother. The two have spoken about their close bond, particularly after Guthrie's husband passed away when she was just 16 years old.
