Australia is set to welcome a new captain, but not the one fans might have expected. In light of Isaiah Yeo's unfortunate head injury assessment, which ruled him out for Saturday's second Rugby League Ashes Test against England at Everton's Hill Dickinson Stadium, Harry Grant stepped up to lead the Kangaroos.
Grant, 27, who took over as captain when Yeo was injured in a collision with England winger Dom Young during their first-Test win at Wembley, is now going through return-to-play concussion protocols.
Sydney Roosters prop Lindsay Collins has been promoted to the starting line-up in place of Patrick Carrigan and the loose forward role vacated by Yeo. With Australia looking to bounce back from a convincing 26-6 loss, Grant will be hoping his team can regroup and mount a stronger challenge against Shaun Wane's side.
Former Kangaroo half-back Kevin Walters, who is now head coach of the Australian team, believes that Grant "and all of the senior players for that matter stepped up" after Yeo's injury. Walters went on to say, "While we'd love to have Isaah out there, he'll still be contributing in many other ways around the group this week."
