Several earthquakes strike South of Bay Area near San Juan Bautista; strongest being 4.0, USGS says

Several Earthquakes Strike South Bay Area on Thanksgiving, With Strongest Quake at 4.0 Magnitude

A series of earthquakes struck the southern San Francisco Bay Area on Thanksgiving Day, with the strongest quake measuring 4.0 magnitude. The tremors occurred near San Juan Bautista in San Benito County, about 60 miles south of San Jose.

According to the US Geological Survey (USGS), a minor 2.7 earthquake hit at 12:10 p.m., followed by two stronger quakes at 12:48 p.m. and 12:57 p.m. The third tremor, which was initially reported as a 4.3 magnitude quake, was downgraded to 4.0.

Residents in the area reported feeling significant shaking across the South Bay, but fortunately, there were no reports of any injuries or damages.

The quakes are part of a larger pattern of seismic activity in the region, with several earthquakes striking Gilroy on Wednesday. However, officials say that the recent tremors are not expected to have a major impact on the area's stability.

Residents in the Bay Area are advised to stay informed and follow any instructions from local authorities as they monitor the situation.

The USGS has released maps showing significant fault lines in the region, which could be prone to future earthquakes.

🌎😬 gotta say, 4.0 mag quake on Thanksgiving Day is wild! like, just when u think it's all about tryin' to get that extra helping of mashed potatoes 😂. anyhoo, glad no one got hurt & properties didn't take a major hit. earthquake season seems to be in full swing here in the Bay Area... 🌴 gotta keep an eye on those fault lines for future quakes tho! 💥

earthquakes all over the south bay area on thanksgiving day? that's crazy 🤯! i'm not surprised though, these regions are known for their seismic activity. 4.0 magnitude is still pretty strong tho, hope no one got hurt. i've been saying this for ages, it's only a matter of time before we have another big quake in the bay area and people will be like "told you so" 😒. the usgs should really consider releasing more info on those fault lines, it's always better to be prepared, not caught off guard 📊.

😕 just saw this news about the earthquakes on Thanksgiving Day... gotta say, 4.0 mag isn't that bad? I mean, I've taken more intense falls at the gym and lived 😂. Glad no one got hurt tho! 🙏 Still a bit weird having to worry about quakes on holidays though... feel like there's always something brewing under the surface in CA 🌊 Anyways, hope everyone's being safe over there 👍

omg i cant even right now lol these earth quakes r so crazy!! 4.0 magnitude is like whoa!! i was at my fam's house in santa cruz and we felt it like a sec later after the first quake happened 🤯 didnt think much of it till the next 2 got stronger 😳 dont wanna be a hater but these quakes did rattle our plates lol literally! 🍽️ anyways its good to know there were no injurys or damages so that's def a blessin 🙏 guess we gotta just stay safe and alert for now 💡

🌎😬 just had my first major earthquake experience at 80 years old and I gotta say it was freaky but not devastating. The thing is we all know the Bay Area is seismically active but you don't realize how it's gonna hit until it does. The good news is that nobody got hurt which is a miracle in itself. My grandkids were out for Thanksgiving dinner with their families and they were literally on their phones checking if there was an aftershock while they were eating turkey 🦃😂. It just goes to show you gotta be prepared but also stay calm when the unexpected happens. We've got some great emergency services in our area, that's a blessing.

lol what a crazy thanksgiving day! can't believe those quakes hit just when ppl were tryin to chill 🤯😂 4.0 magnitude tho? that's wild. glad no one got hurt tho, that's a major bummer if ppl did get injured or somethin 😬. been hearin about all these quakes in california lately, like is the earth just tryin to shake things up or wut 🤷‍♂️. hope everyone stays safe out there! 🙏

omg just got back from thanksgiving dinner and my whole house is still shaking 😂🌎 can you even imagine having a big ol plate of mashed potatoes and then your table keeps wobbling like crazy?! anyway seriously though 4.0 magnitude earthquake is pretty intense but luckily no one got hurt 🙏 so yeah lets hope it just settles down soon 🤞

Oh great, just what I needed to make my Thanksgiving dinner a little more exciting... 😒 literally shaking my head thinking about those earthquakes 🤯. So, a 4.0 magnitude quake is basically like a mild stomach cramp or something 🤮, and people are all good? 🙄 No injuries or damages, yay! I mean, what's the worst that could happen, right? 🙃 And now the USGS has maps showing fault lines, because who doesn't love a good map to make you feel like your life is in danger 🗺️? 🙄

OMG 🤯 just when you think it's safe to eat your turkey... 😂 a whole series of earthquakes hit the South Bay Area on Thanksgiving! 🌊 I mean, 4.0 magnitude is no joke, fam 🙅‍♂️. According to the USGS, there were like 3 quakes in total - one at 12:10 p.m., two more at 12:48 p.m. and 12:57 p.m., and then that third one got downgraded from 4.3 to 4.0 🤔.

Stats are looking pretty rough, though 📊 - San Benito County is like 60 miles south of San Jose, and these quakes were felt by residents all over the South Bay 🌴. Thankfully, no injuries or damages reported, so that's a good thing 🙏.

Map analysis from USGS shows some major fault lines in the area 📍, which could lead to more earthquakes down the line 🤔. Residents, stay vigilant and follow local authorities' instructions 💡. We're keeping an eye on this situation 👀

🤯 Just saw that there was like 3 more mini quakes after that one 4.0 magnum thingy happen on Thanksgiving 🦃😱 I'm still kinda freaking out about it, but i guess its good no one got hurt 😊. Anyone have insurance for earthquakes in the Bay Area? Asking for a friend 🤗

Man, what's goin' on with these earthquakes?! 🤯 I'm sittin' here thinkin', "back in my day", we didn't have all this tech and whatnot, so if there was a quake, you'd just feel it, you know? No fancy maps and warnings... but I guess that's progress for ya! 😂 The thing is, 60 miles south of San Jose can get pretty crazy with the quakes. I mean, who knew the South Bay Area had so many fault lines?! 🤔 It's like, they're tellin' us there might be more comin', so we gotta stay on our toes... literally! 💡

I don't think it's the end of the world or anything, but still, you can't help but wonder what just hit. And 4.0 magnitude?! That's some crazy stuff right there! 🌊 I'm glad no one got hurt, but still, a little more caution wouldn't go amiss... just sayin'! 😅

I'm totally sure these quakes are a big deal... I mean, who wants to live in an area that's basically just waiting for its next big shake 🤯. But on the other hand, 4.0 magnitude is like, not even a biggie right? I've lived in California my whole life and I'm still standing after all these years of earthquakes... or so I thought 😂. I mean, I do hope no one got hurt, but at the same time, can we really afford to freak out about every little tremor? The USGS is like, super clear that it's not a huge deal right now, so maybe we should just chill and follow their lead 🙏. And honestly, those fault lines are kinda scary... I don't know, maybe I'm just being paranoid 😅.

omg wut r ppl doin? like i was tryna watch fam's thanksgiving dinner vids but earthq ukes keep interrupting lol . seriously tho, 4.0 magntude is no joke, i'm glad no one got hurt tho. my aunt just moved to santa cruz and she said it felt like her whole house was shakin . i dont think we should freak out cuz the gov said its not major impact but im still goin to be prepared lol . they say there r fault lines everywhere so i guess wats up, right? gonna keep an eye on dis

🤔 Draw a simple diagram of a fault line:

🌎 The Bay Area is super prone to earthquakes, lol. Like, I get it, the USGS says it's just part of a larger pattern of seismic activity and all that jazz 🤷‍♂️. But still, a 4.0 magnitude quake on Thanksgiving? That's just crazy talk 😱!

📊 The good news is that there were no injuries or damages reported, so fingers crossed 🤞 that the area will be alright. And I guess it's also good to know about the fault lines and all that, like, we should probably stay informed and follow local authorities' instructions 📢.

But can't help but wonder... what if? 😬

🤔 I mean, what's up with these earthquakes in the South Bay? One minute it's a 4.3 quake, the next it's downgraded to 4.0? 📊 Not sure if that's just USGS being super cautious or what. And 60 miles south of San Jose is like, right on top of an active fault line or something 🚧. I'm not trying to be paranoid here, but shouldn't we be expecting more aftershocks or something?

And have you seen those maps from the USGS showing all these fault lines? 🗺️ That's just a ticking time bomb waiting to happen, right? Not sure if I trust the official word that it won't affect the area's stability. What's the plan for emergency preparedness around here, anyway? 🤝

🌊 these quakes got everyone on edge but I guess what's good is that no one got hurt or damaged - it's like a reminder that our lives are fragile and we gotta appreciate the small things 🙏. also thinkin', if we can stay calm and safe during natural disasters, that's already somethin' to be thankful for this Thanksgiving. and yeah, I'm worried about these fault lines too... maybe it's time we all take a step back from our busy lives and focus on buildin' stronger relationships with the earth and each other ❤️

omg what a scary thx day 🤯🌎 i mean who needs an extra helping of mashed potatoes when you got your whole house shaking like that?! 😂 anyway i feel bad for those people who live around san juan bautista, hope everyone is doing alright and no one hurt themselves. earthquakes are super unpredictable so u can never be to sure 🤔 guess we'll just have to stay calm and follow the instructions from the authorities 👍 btw 4.0 magnitude is still pretty crazy tho! 💥

🌊😬 what a crazy thanksgiving lol like who needs turkey when you're shakin' your foundations? 🤣 anyway, gotta say, 4.0 magnitude is no joke, but glad nobody got hurt 🙏. the usgs maps showing fault lines are super sketchy, btw... feels like we're just waiting for the big one to hit 🌪️. you think they're gonna upgrade their emergency alert system or what? 📱💻 gotta stay vigilant, folks! ⚠️

I'm getting old 🙄... another bunch of quakes hit the Bay Area and everyone's all shook up lol! I mean, 4.0 magnitude is no joke, but thankfully it wasn't a big deal like they used to be back in '87. Still, gotta give credit to the USGS for keeping us informed about those fault lines – seems like we're due for another big one soon 🤞.

You know, I was out in San Benito County on Thanksgiving and felt that first little quak... just a minor thing, but it got me thinking: are we really ready for the next big one? I mean, I've lived here my whole life, but even I'm not sure. Guess what they say about earthquakes – "you can't predict 'em"... well, someone's gotta be on call 24/7 to make sure we're all good 📞!
