Snowplow driver dead after crash with Metra train in Bartlett

A tragic accident unfolded on a Monday morning in northwest suburban Bartlett when a Metra train collided with a lone snowplow driver's vehicle, claiming his life instantly. According to authorities, the incident occurred before 9:30 a.m., near the Bartlett station at 120 E. Railroad Ave.

The sole occupant of the snowplow was rushed to St. Alexius hospital in Hoffman Estates after the crash, where his condition had initially been deemed critical by medical personnel on the scene. Unfortunately, his fate took a drastic turn shortly thereafter, with the victim succumbing to his injuries and ultimately being pronounced deceased at the hospital.

Bartlett fire officials confirmed the tragic news, while Metra officials acknowledged that an out-of-service train was struck by the snowplow, leaving it severely damaged beyond repair. The incident had taken place despite the fact that the road near the Bartlett station was open to traffic and accessible for snow removal purposes.

As a result of this heart-wrenching tragedy, extensive disruptions to public transportation were reported in the aftermath of the accident, with inbound and outbound train services restored by 10 a.m. However, Metra officials warned passengers that potential delays might still be experienced on Monday morning due to the severity of the incident.

The Bartlett Fire Department released a heartfelt message expressing their sympathies and support for the Public Works Department, the snowplow driver's colleagues, friends, and community members as they grapple with this devastating loss.

Ugh this is just awful ๐Ÿค•... can't even imagine being out there on that road, trying to do your job in these crazy winter conditions... and for it to end like that is just heartbreaking ๐Ÿ˜”. I mean, the snowplow driver was probably just doing his thing, trying to keep up with the weather, and then BAM! This happens. It's so senseless ๐Ÿคฆโ€โ™‚๏ธ.

And you're right, it's not like the road was closed or anything - he had permission to be out there. But I guess even in that case, accidents can still happen. And it's just one of those things where we can't really prepare for, you know? It's just one of those awful flukes ๐Ÿคฏ.

It's great that the Bartlett Fire Department is being so supportive and understanding... but for this poor guy, I think it's way too late ๐Ÿ˜”. My thoughts are with his family and loved ones right now... may he rest in peace ๐Ÿ’”.

Man ๐Ÿ˜ฑ just can't believe what happened on that Metra train yesterday morning ๐Ÿš‚๐Ÿ˜ฉ. A snowplow driver lost his life in an accident... that's just so sad ๐Ÿ’”. I feel for the guy's colleagues, friends and family - it's always tough when someone passes away suddenly like that ๐Ÿ’€.

The thing that's really got my attention is how the road near the Bartlett station was open and accessible for snow removal, yet still happened ๐Ÿคฆโ€โ™‚๏ธ. It just goes to show how unpredictable these situations can be โš ๏ธ. The delays in public transportation might've been a bit of a headache, but safety always comes first ๐Ÿšจ.

The out-of-service train getting severely damaged is gonna cost Metra a pretty penny ๐Ÿ’ธ. And on top of that, the thought of that poor snowplow driver's vehicle being left like that... just not cool ๐Ÿ˜ข.

๐Ÿšจ๐Ÿ’” just can't believe what happened at the Bartlett station on Monday morning...out of service train colliding with a snowplow still doesn't make sense, road was open for snow removal purposes. so sad that the poor guy didn't stand a chance ๐Ÿ’€๐Ÿ˜ข. feels like it could've been avoided if they just kept an eye out for each other ๐Ÿ‘€๐Ÿ’ญ. metra officials should really review their safety protocols, this is preventable ๐Ÿคฆโ€โ™‚๏ธ

Man, can you imagine being in that snowplow at that time of morning? I mean, think about it, life's precious, right? We're all just trying to make a living and clear the roads for people to get around, but then something like this happens. It's a harsh reminder to appreciate our lives, you know? The dude was doing his job, minding his own biz, when BAM! Life takes him away. It's not about the train or the road being open, it's just that accidents can happen anywhere. Let's take a moment to reflect on how we can be more present and mindful in our daily lives. We don't know when tragedy might strike next. ๐Ÿ’”

๐Ÿ˜” Ugh, just read about that Metra train accident in Bartlett and I'm still trying to process it. Can't believe a guy's life was cut short like that. The thing that really got me is how the incident occurred despite the road being open for snow removal. It just goes to show how unpredictable things can be on our roads, especially during winter conditions.

I also feel bad for the fire department and the Public Works Department, who seem to be getting a lot of grief over this. Can't they get some respect? I mean, it's not like they're just sitting around twiddling their thumbs - they're out there risking their lives to keep our roads clear.

And what's up with Metra's response time on the other hand? 10 am for train services to be restored? That's super slow considering how severe the damage was. I guess you can't rush a good thing, but in this case, I think they could've done better. โฑ๏ธ

๐Ÿšจ๐Ÿ’” OMG you guys I just saw this on Twitter and it's like totally heartbreaking ๐Ÿค• a Metra train collided with a snowplow in Bartlett and the guy who was driving the plow is GONE ๐Ÿ’€ instant death 1 in 10 million odds not on my side today ๐Ÿ™…โ€โ™‚๏ธ

anyway did you know that Metra trains run on an average of around 100,000 miles per year? ๐Ÿš‚๐Ÿ•ฐ๏ธ and the Bartlett station has like 500,000 riders per month ๐Ÿ“Š

the incident was reported at 8:42 a.m. which is just 48 minutes before it happened ๐Ÿ•ฐ๏ธ what a difference 1 minute can make

anyway I saw this vid on YouTube of Metra trains on a typical Monday morning and it's like they're moving at an average speed of around 45 mph โฑ๏ธ

I'm also seeing that the Bartlett Fire Department just released a statement expressing their condolences to the Public Works Dept and the guy's colleagues ๐Ÿ™

the incident happened on a road that was open for snow removal purposes which is just wild ๐Ÿคฏ

This is just another reminder that we're living in a world where one mistake can have catastrophic consequences ๐Ÿ’”. I mean, think about it, if that road was open to traffic and accessible for snow removal, why did the driver still choose to take the risk? It's like they were saying, 'You know what, I'll just ignore the signs and do my job anyway.' That kind of recklessness is exactly what we need less of in this country ๐Ÿ™…โ€โ™‚๏ธ.

And let me tell you, this incident brings up some serious questions about worker safety and government accountability. What kind of protocol was in place to prevent a tragedy like this from happening? Were the snowplow drivers adequately trained or equipped? We need answers here, folks! ๐Ÿ’ก

But what really gets my blood boiling is that our public transportation system relies on brave men and women like this snowplow driver to keep us safe. And yet, they're still working with outdated infrastructure and lack of support from the government ๐Ÿšง. It's time for some real change around here, if you ask me! ๐Ÿ—ฃ๏ธ

man that's such a sad start to the week - can't imagine being on the road at that hour and having something like that happen ๐Ÿค• my thoughts are with the snowplow driver's loved ones, it's just terrible how these things can happen so quickly ๐Ÿ’” Metra should really double check their train schedules to prevent this kind of thing in the future, safety first, you know? ๐Ÿšซ๐Ÿ‘

I donโ€™t usually comment but... ๐Ÿค• this is so sad man ๐Ÿ˜”. A single guy just trying to clear the roads and ends up getting killed in a train crash? It's just not right. I mean, you're out there doing your job and suddenly BAM! Train comes crashing down on you. No warning, no mercy. ๐Ÿ’ฅ My heart goes out to his family and loved ones... they must be totally devastated ๐Ÿ˜ญ. And the Metra officials are all like "oh well, it's an old train" but I don't think that makes it okay. The guy was just doing his job too. ๐Ÿคฆโ€โ™‚๏ธ

๐Ÿ˜ž just can't imagine how scary that must have been for everyone involved... train colliding with a snowplow, it's like something out of a movie ๐Ÿš‚โ„๏ธ. I hope the authorities are investigating this properly and getting to the bottom of what happened. It's also sad that it had to happen on a Monday morning when people were already stressed about going back to work โ˜•๏ธ. The road was open for snow removal, but I guess accidents can still happen anywhere ๐Ÿšง๐Ÿ’”. Hope the community comes together to support the Public Works Department and the driver's loved ones ๐Ÿ‘.

๐Ÿ˜”๐Ÿ˜ž This is just awful ๐Ÿ˜ข. A whole lot of chaos on one morning and it ended in such a terrible way ๐Ÿšง๐Ÿ’”. Poor guy was driving by to do his job and then... ๐Ÿ’ฅ. Can't even imagine how the snowplow driver's family will be feeling right now, losing someone so young & innocent. It's just not fair ๐Ÿ˜ญ. My heart goes out to them and everyone in the community who knows him ๐Ÿ‘Š. Hope they can get through this tough time together ๐Ÿค—.

๐Ÿ˜” just heard about that awful accident on the train in Bartlett... 9:30 am on a Monday morning - what a terrible time to die ๐Ÿ•ฐ๏ธ. You feel so bad for the poor snowplow driver, he was just doing his job and didn't deserve to end up like this ๐Ÿ’€. The fact that the road was open but still an accident happened is crazy ๐Ÿคฏ. Glad they were able to get the trains running again eventually, but you can imagine how scary it must be for people commuting on Monday morning ๐Ÿ˜ฌ. RIP to the snowplow driver, may he rest in peace โค๏ธ.

This is wild! Like, who would've thought that you'd get killed by a snowplow? ๐Ÿคฏ I'm all for clearing roads in winter, but can't we just drive around the trains like normal people do on regular roads? And what's up with that road being open to traffic and stuff while there was a train track right next to it? It seems so basic to me. Anyway, RIP to the snowplow driver ๐Ÿšฎ๐Ÿ’”

Ugh man, such a terrible thing happened ๐Ÿค•! Can you even imagine being in that spot just trying to clear some snow and BAM! Train hits your van... That poor guy must've died instantly ๐Ÿ˜ฑ. I'm so sorry for his family and loved ones. And it's just crazy that the train was out of service and yet still got hit anyway ๐Ÿคฆโ€โ™‚๏ธ. It's like, what are we even doing to make roads safer? Metra needs to take a closer look at their security protocols ASAP โฐ. My heart goes out to everyone affected by this tragedy ๐Ÿ’”
