Sombr, Geese & More Feature on BBC Radio 1 Sound of 2026 Longlist

BBC Radio 1's Sound of 2026 Longlist Reveals Ten Artists Tipped for Success Next Year

The annual BBC Radio 1 Sound of 2026 longlist has been announced, featuring ten exciting new artists who are expected to make a significant impact in the music industry next year. Among those making the cut are Sombr, Geese, and Sasha Keable, showcasing the diversity and talent of emerging artists.

Established in 2003, the Sound of list has become a trusted marker of future success, with past winners including Adele, Lady Gaga, and Lewis Capaldi. The current longlist includes Alessi Rose, Chloe Qisha, Florence Road, Jim Legxacy, kwn, Royel Otis, Skye Newman, and Sombr.

The shortlist and eventual winner will be selected by over 170 UK music industry professionals and artists, including Elton John, Dua Lipa, and Sam Smith. The top five from the list will be announced from January 5, 2026, with the overall winner crowned on January 9.

Changes have been made to the criteria for this year's Sound of longlist, in response to criticism following last year's winner, Chappell Roan. The revised rules now cap artists at three top 10 singles and two U.K. top 10 albums or singles, aiming to provide a more balanced selection of emerging talent.

Sombr has made the cut with their highest-charting album, I Barely Know Her, which reached number 10 in 2025. Geese's acclaimed third album, Getting Killed, followed closely behind at number 26. Meanwhile, Skye Newman boasts three top 40 U.K. singles, including a standout hit "Family Matters" that reached the top 10.

The revised Sound of list is designed to provide a fresh and representative snapshot of emerging talent in the UK music scene. With this year's longlist featuring such a diverse range of artists, fans and industry insiders are eagerly anticipating the announcement of the shortlist and eventual winner.

omg i'm so stoked about the sound of 2026 longlist!!! 🀩 i've been listening to sombr nonstop since their album i barely know her dropped in 2025 it's like they're speaking straight to my soul πŸ’– geese is also on my radar after hearing getting killed, it sounds like an emotional rollercoaster that i need to get into ASAP 🎧 and skye newman's music is giving me all the feels with "family matters" being a total bop 🎢 i'm loving how diverse the longlist is this year, can't wait to see who makes the shortlist and what they have in store for us next year 🀞

omg I'm so hyped for next years sound of list! 🀩 these 10 artists sound amazing i mean sombr is already out with their album that reached number 10 in 2025 what does it say about the music industry when an artist can make a debut and be like "ok we got this" πŸ˜‚ anyway im loving the diversity on this longlist from geese to skye newman there's something for everyone

πŸ€” whats up with the changes to the sound of list? like they changed the rules cuz some ppl were salty about last yrs winner πŸ™ƒ i get it tho, dont wanna just pick someone bc theyre popular or whatever... but now its more about balancing it out so we get a good mix of artists. πŸ’― its def gonna be interesting to see who makes the cut this year, especially with sombr and geese on the list... how much longer do u think its gonna take for them to become huge? 🀞

Ugh, another music competition πŸŽ΅πŸ™„, and it's all about who'll be the next big thing... Can't they just let these talented artists shine on their own? The whole system is kinda biased towards established acts trying to make a comeback or whatever πŸ€·β€β™€οΈ. And with Elton John on the judging panel? Come on! πŸ™„ They should've gone for someone with actual credibility, not just because of who they know πŸ€·β€β™‚οΈ. What really grinds my gears is how the whole list has to be crunched down into this top 5... it's like, can't we just appreciate these artists for who they are and what they bring? πŸ™„

omg have you tried that new cafe downtown? 🀯 i went there with friends last weekend and their matcha latte is literally life changing πŸ’› i swear it's like a party in your mouth πŸŽ‰ what do u think about the sound of 2026 longlist tho? sombr's music is sooo good btw, have u listened to geese's new album yet? 😊

omg i'm so hyped for this sound of 2026 list! 🀩 these artists are going to blow up next year for sure! I love how they've revised the criteria to make it more balanced, you feel? giving those who haven't had as much success a chance to shine is exactly what we need in music. Sombr's album reached number 10 last year and Geese just dropped an amazing third album, these guys are on fire πŸ”₯! Skye Newman's "Family Matters" is already a bop, can you imagine what the future holds for her? 🀩 this longlist is giving me all the feels, I'm so here for it 😊

You know what struck me about this whole thing? πŸ€” The BBC Radio 1 Sound of 2026 list is all about giving opportunities to artists who might not have been on the radar before. It's like they're saying, "Hey, you've got talent, we believe in you." And that's a great lesson for us all - sometimes it takes someone else believing in us to make us shine πŸ’«.

I mean, think about it. We've all been there at some point or another, feeling like our dreams are out of reach because nobody seems to be listening. But what if we told you that's exactly when you need someone to take a chance on you? 🌟 It might just give you the push you needed to make your mark.

So, in a way, this list is all about the power of support and trust. And who knows, maybe one day you'll be the one being touted as a rising star 🀩!

I'm low-key excited about this BBC Radio 1 Sound of 2026 longlist πŸŽ‰! The diversity is real - I love seeing artists like Alessi Rose and Chloe Qisha making waves with their unique sounds πŸ’₯. It's dope to see the changes in criteria too, capping artists at three top 10 singles and two U.K. top 10 albums or singles... it's all about balance now 🀝. But what I'm most hyped about is that Sombr made the cut with their album "I Barely Know Her" which reached number 10 in 2025 πŸ“ˆ. It just goes to show that emerging talent can make a real impact, and I'm curious to see who'll be crowned the winner next year 🎁!

yooo, sound of 2026 is gonna be lit 🀩! i'm loving the diversity on this list, got my eye on sombr and geese, they're killing it πŸ’₯. and skye newman's "family matters" is a banger 🎡 gotta respect the revised rules too, less emphasis on one-hit wonders and more room for actual depth in their discographies πŸ‘. can't wait to see who makes the shortlist and what's next for these talented artists 🀞

🌎 I'm loving the diversity on this longlist! It's amazing to see new faces like Alessi Rose, Chloe Qisha, and Florence Road making waves. The changes to the criteria make total sense after last year's criticism - it's all about finding that perfect balance between showcasing established talent and giving a platform to fresh emerging artists.

The fact that Elton John, Dua Lipa, and Sam Smith are on the judging panel is exciting! They know their stuff when it comes to spotting talent. I'm especially intrigued by Skye Newman's track "Family Matters" - it sounds like a real game-changer for her career.

I think this longlist is shaping up to be really special. With three artists (Sombr, Geese, and Sasha Keable) that have already had significant chart success, it'll be interesting to see how the shortlist and winner are chosen. Fingers crossed for an amazing Sound of 2026 winner! 😊

omg I'm literally shook by the revised criteria for Sound of 2026 😲!! capping artists at three top 10 singles and two u.k. top 10 albums or singles is like a breath of fresh air, you feel? it's about time they acknowledged last year's winner wasn't exactly what fans wanted πŸ™ƒ... I've been following sombr since their debut single and i'm so glad they made the cut πŸŽ‰ but omg have u heard skye newman's "family matters"?! 🀩 i've had it on repeat for days 🎢

"Love how BBC Radio 1's Sound of list is all about giving emerging artists a shoutout πŸŽ‰πŸ‘, can't wait to see who takes home that top spot in 2026!"

🎢 sombr's album I Barely Know Her is fire πŸ”₯! i love their vibe 🌊 and i think they got it right with 3 top singles and 2 u.k. albums max πŸ“ˆ. geese's getting killed (lol) is so good too πŸ˜‚, and skye newman's family matters is a bop πŸ’ƒ. this year's sound of list is all about diversity 🌎 and i'm hyped to see what happens next πŸ€”. the fact that it's not just about one or two artists is super cool πŸ‘, makes me wanna listen to more music from these new faces 🎡

omg u gotta give it up 4 sombr they made the cut w/ I Barely Know Her bein so fire 🀩! i feel like geese got robbed tho, Getting Killed is such a sick album πŸŽΆπŸ‘ & skye newman's "family matters" is bops πŸ€ͺ but yea, at least we get to see more diverse talent on the list this year πŸŒˆπŸ’–

idk why they changed the rules now πŸ€”... they're still basically just gonna pick whoever sounds good to them, right? 😎 i mean, sombr's got 3 top 10 singles under their belt, what more proof do we need? πŸ’― but at the same time, it's kinda cool that they're trying to mix things up and not just go with the same old formula πŸ€·β€β™€οΈ. geese is definitely one of my faves right now 🎡, gotta see how this whole thing plays out

man... thinkin bout sombr makin it on the sound of list got me wonderin whats gonna happen to the music scene next year... like we need more people talkin about how hard it is for artists 2 break through πŸ€” but at the same time its dope 2 see someone like sombr gettin recognition after their album did so well πŸŽ‰ i think its cool they changed the rules this year cuz last years winner was kinda... underwhelming 😐 and now we got a more balanced selection of artists which is defo a plus for diversity & stuff

omg I'm so stoked about the BBC Radio 1 Sound of 2026 longlist, it's always exciting to see new talent emerging from the UK music scene 🀩! I've been listening to Sombr's album "I Barely Know Her" nonstop, and I love how they're pushing the boundaries with their sound. And Geese's "Getting Killed" is like a masterclass in songwriting - so emotional and raw πŸ’”. The fact that the revised criteria are focusing on more balanced representation of emerging talent is a great step forward for the industry. Can't wait to see who makes it onto the shortlist! 🀞

πŸ€” so i'm excited that sombr made it onto the sound of 2026 list, but like 3 top 10 singles in 2025 is a pretty high bar to clear, you feel? also, i love the diversity on this year's longlist, but gotta wonder how they're gonna choose just 1 winner out of all these talented artists πŸŽΆπŸ’«
