Soup firm Campbell's dismisses executive over alleged 'poor people' comments

Campbell's Soup Firm Fires Executive Over "Poor People" Comments, Accusations of Racism

In a shocking move, Campbell's has dismissed an executive who allegedly referred to the company's products as being made for "poor people" and denigrated its Indian employees. Martin Bally, the former vice-president of the information technology department, was let go after it was discovered that he had made the remarks.

According to a wrongful termination lawsuit filed by a former employee, Robert Garza, Bally described Campbell's products as "shit for fucking poor people" and claimed that he didn't buy the company's soups anymore due to concerns about the ingredients. In a bizarre rant, Bally also expressed his disdain for chicken from 3D printers, which is not used in Campbell's products.

The lawsuit alleges that Bally made racist comments about Indian employees, saying they "couldn't think for themselves." He also admitted to being under the influence of drugs at work and retaliated against Garza when he tried to report him. Campbell's apologized for the hurt caused by Bally's comments, which it described as "vulgar, offensive, and false."

The company quickly dismissed Bally's claims about its food ingredients, stating that its soups come from trusted suppliers and meet high quality standards. They also denied allegations of bioengineered chicken in their products.

Bally's dismissal comes after Campbell's rebranded last year to focus on snack foods rather than soup. The company said it would not tolerate such language under any circumstances and vowed to uphold its values of respect and inclusivity.

The incident has sparked outrage among employees and customers alike, who have expressed disappointment in the company's handling of the situation.

🤔 this whole thing reeks of whitewash. like, campbell's is trying to sweep it under the rug and make bally look like a lone wolf, but what really went down? was he just an isolated incident or was there more to it than that? 🕵️‍♀️ i need more sources on this one before i can even start thinking about whether campbell's handled it right.

I dont get why ppl think its so cool when ppl make racist comments in public 🤔. Martin Bally's words were hurtful & unacceptable, especially towards the Indian employees 👥. Campbell's soup has been a part of many ppl's lives for years, but now this incident makes me question whether I still wanna buy their stuff 😐. What if there are more people like him in the company? 🤷‍♀️ The fact that he was under the influence of drugs at work is not an excuse for his behaviour 💔. As a society, we should be promoting kindness & respect, not making racist comments or being discriminatory 🌎

🤕 gotta say, i'm really disappointed in campbell's for letting someone like martin bally go 🤦‍♂️. what kind of workplace tolerates that kind of hate speech & racism? it's not just about one person making a comment, it's about the company culture as a whole 🌎. they should be teaching people how to treat others with respect, not letting them run off into the sunset because someone gets upset 😒. and the fact that he was under the influence of drugs at work? that's just another red flag 🚨. can't we do better than this as a society? 👎

Ugh, I feel so bad for the Indian employees at Campbell's who had to deal with that kind of hate speech 😔. But on a silver lining note, it's awesome that the company is taking steps to address this behavior and ensure their workplace is inclusive and respectful 🌈. Firing Bally was probably a good call, though - you can't have someone saying racist stuff and still be in charge! 👎 And I'm glad Campbell's rebranded to focus on snack foods, that must be a huge weight off their shoulders 💨. Maybe this whole thing will lead to some positive change for the company and its employees? 🤞

😱 this is a major fail for Campbell's - how could they let someone with that kind of attitude run their IT department? 🤖 I mean, come on, saying chicken from 3D printers isn't even part of their product lineup... 🚫 and then making racist comments about Indian employees? 🤕 that's just unacceptable. 👎

And to think they were going through a rebranding effort to shift focus to snack foods - now this is the kind of toxic culture they're trying to escape? 🤦‍♀️ I'm not surprised the company fired him ASAP, but I do hope they took steps to address the systemic issues that led up to his behavior in the first place. 💪
