South Beach hits rewind with the 49th annual Art Deco festival - WSVN 7News | Miami News, Weather, Sports | Fort Lauderdale

Miami's iconic South Beach is transforming into a vibrant time capsule as it gears up for its 49th annual Art Deco festival, dubbed "Celebrating Air, Land and Sea." This year's event promises an unforgettable experience, where the city's rich past merges with its present-day charm.

For two days, from January 9-11, Ocean Drive will be a kaleidoscope of art deco designs, pastel-hued buildings, and geometric patterns that have come to define Miami Beach. The festival is an ode to this unique architectural style that catapulted the city onto the global map.

Visitors can expect an array of activities tailored to please all ages. The weekend kicks off with a classic car show featuring restored rides from the early 1900s, including cars dating back as far as 1929. This year's showcase promises to be just as spectacular, with over 25 years of age criteria ensuring only the most prized antique vehicles take part.

Beyond the cars, the festival features an all-swing dance team that embodies the high-energy spirit of the jazz age. Their unique blend of old-school rhythm and modern attitude is sure to get everyone in the mood for a night out on Ocean Drive.

Children are also in for a treat with a designated kid zone featuring inflatables, face painting, and other fun activities. Meanwhile, local artists will be showcasing their work alongside vendors offering an array of food options along Ocean Drive.

As Yuval Hod, co-organizer of the event, so aptly puts it: "Art Deco Weekend is a celebration of everything Art Deco." The festival's purpose is multifaceted – to not only showcase this iconic style but also to pay homage to the organizations and individuals working tirelessly to preserve and protect Miami Beach's rich cultural heritage.

So mark your calendars for January 9-11, and get ready to experience the epitome of art deco as it hits rewind.

I'm still reeling from last year's Art Deco festival 🀩... I mean, have you seen the photos from that event? The pastel colors, the ornate details, it was like stepping into a vintage time machine. And this year's theme of "Celebrating Air, Land and Sea" sounds amazing! I'm excited to see how they'll incorporate the ocean views with the art deco designs.

And yeah, the classic car show is always a highlight πŸš—... I've been following some of these antique vehicles on social media, and they're seriously impressive. I wonder if they'll have any vintage motorcycles this year?

I also love that they're including activities for kids, like inflatables and face painting 🎨... it's amazing how the festival organizers make sure there's something for everyone. And can't wait to try some of the food options along Ocean Drive, I've heard their Cuban cuisine is on point!

What's crazy is how Art Deco Weekend has become such a huge event in Miami Beach... it's like the whole city comes together to celebrate this iconic style. Do you guys ever get to attend this festival? πŸ€”

oh my god I am literally so stoked for this art deco festival in miami beach it's like a dream come true 🀩 to see all those pastel-hued buildings and geometric patterns coming together on ocean drive, and the vibe is just going to be soooo cool 😎 i mean who wouldn't want to hang out with some classic cars from the early 1900s? it's like stepping into a time capsule, you know? πŸ•°οΈ and that all-swing dance team sounds like it's gonna bring the house down, i need to get tickets ASAP πŸ’ƒβ€β™€οΈ and omg the kid zone is going to be so fun for the little ones, inflatables and face painting, yaaas! πŸŽ‰ my only concern is what if they don't have enough food options for everyone? like, vegan and gluten-free people gotta be included too 😩 anyway, January 9-11 can't come soon enough πŸ“†

🀩 I'm so stoked for this event! The Art Deco festival is like a time machine that whisks you away to Miami's fabulous past πŸ•°οΈ. I've always been obsessed with those iconic pastel buildings and geometric patterns - they're just so mesmerizing ✨. And the fact that local artists are showcasing their work alongside vendors serving up delicious food options along Ocean Drive? Yes, please! 🍴🎨

I'm also super excited for the kid zone and all the fun activities planned for the little ones πŸŽ‰. It's not just about the art deco designs; it's about celebrating the community that made this style so special in the first place ❀️.

Glad to see people like Yuval Hod are working hard to preserve Miami Beach's cultural heritage - we could all learn a thing or two from their dedication πŸ™. Can't wait for January 9-11 and getting my Art Deco weekend on! πŸ˜†

I'm so down for this! Art Deco festival in Miami is always a vibe πŸŒ΄πŸŽ‰. I mean, who doesn't love those pastel colors and sleek designs? 🀩 The fact that they're bringing back classic cars and live swing dancing will be epic πŸ’ƒπŸ»πŸš—. And the kid zone sounds like a great idea too - face painting and inflatables are always a win for little ones 😁. I'm also loving how the festival is about preserving Miami Beach's cultural heritage, it's all about celebrating what makes the city special 🎨. Can't wait to check out the art deco designs on Ocean Drive and indulge in some delicious food πŸ΄πŸ‘Œ!

omg, 49th annual Art Deco festival already? feels like just yesterday they were hosting a party in neon pink spandex 🀣! anyway, i'm all about that retro vibe, so if you're talking pastel colors, geometric patterns, and classic cars from the early 1900s... count me in! but let's be real, who needs art deco when you can just bring the whole Art Deco set (you know, complete with fedoras and fake mustaches) πŸŽ©πŸ‘€. seriously though, it sounds like they're gonna have a blast from the past... er, present? πŸ˜‚

omg can u even imagine how magical south beach is gonna be during this festival!!! i mean, its like stepping into a time machine where past & present collide πŸ•°οΈπŸŒ΄ the classic car show is gonna be SO EPIC with those old rides from the early 1900s πŸš—πŸ’¨ and then theres that all-swing dance team doing their thang πŸ’ƒπŸ»πŸŽΈ i'm literally getting goosebumps thinking about it!!! and omg kids are in for a treat with that designated kid zone πŸ€©πŸŽ‰ its like theyre gonna have the best time ever playing games & getting face painted πŸŽ¨πŸ‘€ cant wait to see all the art deco vibes come alive on ocean drive πŸ’–πŸŒŠ

Ugh, good luck with that πŸ€¦β€β™‚οΈ. Another event ruined by crowds and tourists clogging up Ocean Drive. I mean, who needs a classic car show when you'll just be surrounded by screaming kids and overpriced souvenir stands? 🎸 And don't even get me started on the food vendors - all-you-can-eat tourist traps that'll break the bank πŸ’Έ. On a more serious note, though, it's sad to see Miami Beach losing its authentic Art Deco vibe amidst all the commercialization πŸŒ†. Guess we'll just have to wait and see how the weekend goes before we can tell if they've managed to capture the essence of this iconic style or not 🀞

I don't usually comment on these types of festivals but... I'm kinda excited for this Art Deco festival in Miami 🌴! I've seen pictures of South Beach and it's just so... retro 😎. The idea of having a whole weekend dedicated to preserving that unique architectural style is really cool πŸ€“. I love how they're including activities for all ages, from the classic car show to the kid zone with inflatables πŸŽ‰. And can you imagine dancing the night away to swing music on Ocean Drive? πŸ•ΊπŸ» It sounds like a blast! I'm not even sure what Art Deco is but... it must be pretty cool if it's getting this kind of attention 😊. Maybe one day I'll get to visit and see it for myself πŸ“.

I'm kinda stoked about this Art Deco festival in Miami 🀩. It sounds like they're really getting into the spirit of things with all the classic car show and swing dance team. I mean, who wouldn't want to see some vintage rides cruising down Ocean Drive? πŸ’₯ And it's awesome that they're including a kid zone with fun activities – my little ones would love that! πŸŽ‰ But what I think I like most about this event is that it's not just about the art deco itself, but also about preserving the city's cultural heritage. That's really cool, you know? 😊
