Telly has only delivered 35,000 of its free televisions with always-on ads

Telly, a home theater startup that emerged in 2023 with an eye-catching proposition – free dual-screen televisions with always-on ads – has struggled to deliver on its promises.

In contrast to its ambitious initial plans, which included shipping 500,000 screens by the summer of last year, the company's actual numbers are far more modest. According to a quarterly investor update, Telly had only shipped around 35,000 units as of the end of Q3 2025 – a meager fraction of what its executives initially anticipated.

It appears that while some customers were indeed interested in Telly's unique product – with over 250,000 pre-orders booked in June 2023 alone – technical issues have hindered the company's ability to meet demand. The problem persists, as around 10% of shipments through FedEx arrived damaged, according to a report cited by Janko Roettgers, author of Lowpass.

The company's struggles seem evident in its performance thus far. A thread on Reddit, dated last year, highlights issues with delayed deliveries and non-functional replacements.

awww, sounds like Telly is having a super tough time 🤕. They had so much hype around that free dual-screen TV thing, but it seems the execution hasn't quite lived up to the promises 😔. It's frustrating when customers are excited about something only to be let down by tech issues or delayed shipments... poor guys gotta deal with disappointed fans and damaged goods 🚮🤦‍♂️

you know, i was thinking about telly's situation the other day... 🤔 it just made me wonder, what happens when we put too much emphasis on innovation and progress? like, they started out with this super cool idea of free dual-screen TVs, but then reality set in... 😅 and now they're dealing with all these technical issues. it's like, how do you balance ambition with pragmatism?

i mean, it's not just telly's problem either... 🤝 we see this happen in so many industries where companies rush into launch without thinking through the logistics. and then what happens? customers get disappointed, and the company struggles to recover.

anyway, i think it's a good reminder that just because we have an idea or a product that people want, doesn't mean it's gonna work out in practice... 🤓 we gotta be careful not to get too caught up in the hype.

I feel bad for Telly 🤔. People were super hyped about their dual-screen TVs with ads, but it seems like the execution didn't quite live up to expectations 😐. I mean, 35k units shipped in just a year? That's not bad, but considering the hype and pre-orders, you'd think they'd be crushing it 💸.

It's not all Telly's fault, though 🤷‍♂️. Tech issues can be super frustrating, especially when you're dealing with something as complex as a home theater system. And yeah, damaged shipments are no joke 📦. But still, I think they should've been better prepared for demand 🙄.

It's not like they didn't warn people about potential delays or anything... but still 🤔. Maybe they got in over their heads? Or maybe they just underestimated the complexity of getting this thing out to customers? Either way, it's a shame they're not living up to their promise 💔.

I'm low-key disappointed in Telly, you know? They came at the market with this fire idea – free dual-screen TVs with ads – but it seems like they couldn't deliver 🤦‍♂️. 35,000 units shipped so far is basically nothing compared to their initial goals of hitting half a million by last summer 😴.

I mean, I get that technical issues are a thing and can be super frustrating for customers...but still, you'd think they could've gotten it together 🤔. The fact that 10% of shipments arrived damaged? That's just not okay 💔. And what's with the delayed deliveries and non-functional replacements? It's like, they're not even listening to their customers 👂.

I guess this is a reminder that even the best-laid plans can go awry 🌪️. But still, it's sad to see Telly struggling so much after all the hype surrounding their product 🎥.

Ugh, I'm so disappointed in Telly right now 🤦‍♂️! They came out strong with a crazy-good idea – free dual-screen TVs with ads – but it seems like they're not quite hitting their stride yet 💔. 35,000 units shipped by the end of Q3? That's like, a tiny fraction of what I thought they'd get 📉. And don't even get me started on the damage rate – 10% of shipments are arriving broken 🤯. It's clear that their technical issues are really holding them back.

I mean, it's not all bad news, though – over 250,000 pre-orders booked in June 2023 is still pretty impressive ⚡️. But if they can't deliver on those numbers, then what's the point? They need to get their act together ASAP 💪. And sorry Reddit users who are getting delayed deliveries and faulty replacements 🤦‍♂️ – that's just frustrating all around 😩.

Man, I'm not surprised 🤔. This whole thing reeks of a massive marketing scam 😒. Free dual-screen TVs sound too good to be true, right? And it's only been like 2 years since they started promising those, but have they actually delivered on any of that stuff? Nope 🚫.

It's all about the ads, fam 💸. They wanted to make a buck off these free TVs and get people hooked on watching more content. But now they're struggling because people aren't buying into it (pun intended). The fact that 10% of shipments are arriving damaged is just cherry-picking 🤦‍♂️.

Telly's whole operation feels like a well-oiled PR machine, trying to spin this mess as "technical difficulties" 🔄. Meanwhile, they're probably counting on those pre-orders to keep the cash flowing 💸. I wouldn't put it past 'em. Something fishy is going on here...

Ugh, i feel bad for telly 🤕 they had so much hype around that free tv thing and now it looks like their ship is sinking 😩 technical issues are no joke and it's not just about fulfilling orders, it's also about building trust with customers... like when you order something online, you expect it to work right? 🤦‍♂️

lol what a disaster 🤦‍♂️ this Telly startup is like they thought they could just wave a magic wand and out of thin air deliver 500k screens by the end of '24 lol 😂 and now they're struggling to even meet a fraction of that number... like, I get it technical issues can happen but it's crazy how unprepared they are for actual production 🤔. and those pre-orders? yeah right, just a bunch of people who wanted in on the 'free ads' bandwagon 📺😂. and don't even get me started on these damaged shipments 🚮... poor customers getting screwed over because some company can't even get their act together 🙄. I'm surprised they haven't gone bankrupt yet 💸.

idk what's going on with this telly startup lol... i mean, free dual-screen TVs with ads sounds like a sick deal, but it seems like it's more hype than reality 🤔. 35k units shipped so far? that's like, barely breaking even. and damage issues? come on, can't they get their production together? 🚧 i remember when they had over 250k pre-orders, that was crazy! now it just seems like a slow rollout... i'm not hating on the idea of affordable dual-screens or anything, but telly's execution is all over the place 📺.

omg did u know that i just tried 2 make my own diy home theater setup & it was super hard lol like i thought it would b easy as pizza but nope cables & wires everywhere 🤯 anyway back to telly tho... i dont get why ppl would wanna buy a tv with ads on all the time thats so weird 🙄
