The Carpenter's Son review – Nicolas Cage is predictably miscast in dull biblical horror

Nicolas Cage Struggles to Find Footing in 'The Carpenter's Son'

Egypt-born writer-director Lotfy Nathan's latest offering, 'The Carpenter's Son', is a bewildering mashup of horror, drama, and fantasy that finds Nicolas Cage miscast as the titular character. The film, inspired by the Infancy Gospel of Thomas, attempts to reimagine the early years of Jesus but falls flat in its execution.

The movie begins with a screaming cave-based birth sequence, setting the tone for a violent and disturbing world. However, instead of delving deeper into this dark narrative, Nathan seems uncertain about how to proceed, leading to a jarring and unbalanced pace. The result is a film that feels like it's trying to be several things at once, but fails to excel in any of them.

Cage, known for his over-the-top performances, is predictably miscast as the carpenter. He struggles to find a modulated performance, veering wildly between effective, muted work and his usual, fanboy-pleasing antics. His character feels like a caricature, lacking depth or nuance.

The supporting cast fares no better, with FKA twigs struggling to make an impact as Cage's on-screen partner. The usually reliable Noah Jupe is relegated to thankless, unembarrassing work, while the rest of the cast seems to be acting in a different, equally poor film.

The beautiful scenery that Nathan so desperately tries to capitalize on falls flat due to his rushed storytelling and lack of clarity. The result is a mess of an edit, with scenes stitched together haphazardly. It's hard not to feel that Nathan has made a short version of the film available online out of pity for the audience.

In the end, 'The Carpenter's Son' feels like a wasted opportunity. With its confusing narrative and lackluster performances, it's a dull watch that fails to deliver on any level. If you're a fan of Cage or enjoy biblical dramas, you may find something to appreciate here, but for most viewers, this is a misfire that won't be remembered for long.

i dont get why lotfy nathan thought nicolas cage was the right guy for this role... i mean, i know he's done some weird stuff in his movies before, but this is just weird 🤪. and fka twigs getting wasted in such a small part is a shame, she usually does way more with her acting chops. ugh, the pacing of this movie is all over the place and its like nathan tried to cram too many things into one film 🚮. overall, just another disappointment from an otherwise decent actor like cage... maybe he should've just stuck to playing a madman or something 😒

🤔 I don't get why Nicolas Cage was cast as the carpenter... he's just too over-the-top for this kind of role. 🙄 The film feels like it's trying to do too many things at once and ends up being a mess. 😐 And FKA twigs, she's talented but not given much to work with here... 🤷‍♀️ Maybe if they had more time and focus, it could've been something special? 🚫

I think Nicolas Cage was just trying to break free from his typical action-hero mold and take on a more dramatic role. I mean, the guy's been in some wild movies before 🤯. And let's be real, FKA twigs is always going to bring that edgy vibe to her roles 💁‍♀️. Noah Jupe might not have had much to do, but he's still an amazing young actor 🎬. I think the film just needed more time in post-production and a bit more trust from Lotfy Nathan 🔥. Sometimes, less is more, you know? Maybe it's not the most cohesive movie, but at least it's trying something new 🌊. Don't @ me 😜.

I gotta say, Nicolas Cage being in 'The Carpenter's Son' was a pretty big gamble... 🤔 I think he's talented and all, but this role just didn't feel right for him. He's always been known for his intense performances, but here it felt like he was trying too hard to be dramatic without actually landing on anything substantial. And the supporting cast? Yeah, they were pretty forgettable too... 😐 FKA twigs was really wasted in her small role, and I didn't get what Noah Jupe was even doing there. The whole film just felt like it was trying to cram a million different elements into one movie without actually making any of them shine through. And don't even get me started on the pacing... 🕰️ It's like Lotfy Nathan was trying to cram 3 movies into one and ended up with a mess. Overall, I wouldn't say this is a complete disaster, but it's definitely a skippable watch for most people 😐

Ugh, just saw the trailer for 'The Carpenter's Son' and I'm already regretting it 🤯💀. Nicolas Cage as Jesus? Please. He's gonna try to bring his usual intensity but will just end up overacting again 🙄. And FKA twigs in a minor role? Come on, can't they do better than that? 🤦‍♀️ The whole thing looks like it's been thrown together with no clear vision or direction 🎥. I'm not even gonna bother watching this one, why would I? 😴

I mean, come on... Nicolas Cage in 'The Carpenter's Son' just doesn't work 🤷‍♂️. I get it, the film is trying to do a lot of things at once, but it ends up feeling like nothing's really being accomplished. The pacing is all over the place and the performances are just...meh. FKA twigs gets lost in the shuffle too, which is a shame because she's usually so talented 🤦‍♀️. And don't even get me started on Cage's over-the-top antics - it feels like he's phoning it in here 😴. I was expecting more from Nathan, considering he's got a unique vision and all that jazz 💡. Overall, it just feels like a hot mess of a film 🚮.

I'm so frustrated when I see talented actors like Nicolas Cage get miscast in films 🤯♂️. He's got that over-the-top energy that can work, but in 'The Carpenter's Son' it feels like he's phoning it in 😐. The film's all over the place - and not just because of the plot, which is trying to be something it's not 🤪. It's like they're trying too hard to make it stand out instead of trusting the story itself 🔥. And don't even get me started on the editing... I mean, can you imagine if someone made a quick clip of this movie just for laughs? 😂 Yeah, that's basically what happened here 🤷‍♂️.

I just saw the trailer for 'The Carpenter's Son' and I'm already sensing some major whiplash 🤯. Nicolas Cage trying to tame his wild side? Not gonna happen 💁‍♂️. The whole film looks like a jumbled mess of genres and tone, like someone threw a handful of different emotions into a blender and hit puree 🍹. I'm all for some creative risk-taking, but when it feels like the director is just phoning it in 📴, you gotta wonder if it's gonna be worth watching. And with Cage at the helm, we can expect some serious overacting 🎭 – I mean, how much "character development" can one guy bring to a role? Not enough, imo 😅.

🚨👀 just saw the trailer for 'The Carpenter's Son' and I'm already dreading it 🤯 Nicolas Cage looks like he's having some serious identity crisis in this one 😂 I mean, who casts him as a carpenter? The plot seems all over the place too... like they took every genre and mashed them together without thinking it through 💥 It doesn't even look like Nicolas Cage is really trying to sell the performance... poor guy 😔

I'm really underwhelmed by 'The Carpenter's Son'. I think Nicolas Cage was miscast in the lead role - his usual intensity doesn't quite fit with the character of a carpenter 🤔. The pacing issues are a major problem, it feels like Lotfy Nathan is trying to juggle too many genres and it shows. FKA twigs gets lost in the supporting cast and I'm not sure what to make of the scenery, it's so beautiful but underutilized 😐. Overall, this film feels like a missed opportunity - if you're a fan of Cage or biblical dramas, it might be worth a watch, but for most people, it's just a skippable mess 🚮

man... i think the problem with 'The Carpenter's Son' is that it tries to tackle too many themes and ideas at once 🤯. like, nicolas cage is already on thin ice here, and adding all these different genres and plot twists just makes him look like he's flailing around in the dark 🌑. and its not just cage, the whole cast feels like they're phoning it in, you know? like, fka twigs is a talented artist, but she gets wasted in this role 💔. and i think nathan's biggest mistake is trying to pack too much into the runtime, instead of taking the time to really develop the story and characters 🕰️. its just a shame, because at times, it feels like there could have been something special here 🔥.

ugh, nicolas cage getting miscast as the carpenter is just so extra... i mean, can't they see he's never gonna pull off subtlety? and fka twigs in this film is like, woah, what happened to her? she was always so chill and cool. noah jupe just gets lost in a sea of poor storytelling 🤦‍♂️

I JUST WANTED TO SAY THAT NICOLAS CAGE IS ACTUALLY A TALENTED GUY BUT IN THIS MOVIE HE'S JUST NOT RIGHT FOR THE ROLE 🤔🎥. I MEAN, WHO THINKS IT'S A GOOD IDEA TO CAST HIM AS A CARPENTER WHEN HE'S MORE SUITABLE FOR PLAYING A WILD AND CRAZY CHARACTER? 🤣 ANYWAY, THE MOVIE ITSELF SEEMS LIKE A MESS, WITH TOO MANY GENRES MIXED IN AND NOT ENOUGH FOCUS ON ANY ONE THING. 🎬😐

omg what a total bummer "The Carpenter's Son" just sounds like such a confusing mess 🤯 i mean nicolas cage has shown he can do so much better than this... like in 'leaving las vegas' or 'adaptation' where he was actually acting 🎭 not that crazy, over-the-top stuff here. and fka twigs? no thanks 🙅‍♀️ i'd rather watch paint dry on a tree trunk than sit through another of her underutilized performances. and can we talk about the editing? it sounds like lotfy nathan was just phoning it in 📺 the scenery is lovely, but that's not enough to save this trainwreck from becoming a total dumpster fire 💔

I'm really disappointed in Nicolas Cage's latest film "The Carpenter's Son". I mean, he's a talented actor and all, but in this movie, he's just not doing it for me 🤔. The pacing is all over the place - it's like Nathan is trying to cram too many different genres into one film. And don't even get me started on Cage's acting, some of his scenes are so cringeworthy 😳.

I think the problem is that Nathan didn't really know how to balance the tone and pace of the film. It feels like a messy attempt to reimagine Jesus' early years. The supporting cast doesn't help either - FKA twigs is wasted in her role, and Noah Jupe just seems... meh 🤷‍♂️.

I wish Nathan had taken more time to develop the story and get his vision together before making this film. As it stands, "The Carpenter's Son" feels like a waste of potential 🎥. If you're a fan of Cage or love biblical dramas, I guess you'll find something to enjoy here 😐. But for most people, it's just a skippable mess 🚫

ugh this movie is like tryna cram too many genres into one bowl and just expects it to taste good 🤮 the pacing is all over the place and nico cage feels like he's stuck in some weird limbo between method acting and just being himself lol. i get that the director was trying to do something unique but honestly it just comes off as a hot mess of confusing plot twists and cringy performances 🎥👎

I'm so underwhelmed by 'The Carpenter's Son'. Nicolas Cage is just too much sometimes 🤯 it feels like the filmmakers were trying to check off every box in the "art house horror" genre but forgot to actually make something cohesive or scary 😴. The pacing is all over the place and Cage's performance is like a wild rollercoaster ride - sometimes he's great, other times you just want to facepalm 🤦‍♂️. I mean, what happened to the beautiful scenery that they were trying so hard to showcase? It felt like it was wasted on a lazy edit job 🎥. Overall, this film is just a mess and a waste of time ⏰.

🤯 I mean, what's up with Nicolas Cage and his film choices lately? 😂 This one's got all the makings of a disaster: a weird premise (horror, drama, fantasy... who thought that was a good idea?), poor pacing, and Cage's signature style clashing with the role. 🚮 And don't even get me started on the cast - FKA twigs deserves so much better than this! 💔

Stats-wise, it looks like 'The Carpenter's Son' is gonna tank at the box office:

* 1 in 5 fans of Nicolas Cage are expecting a worse film from him 🤦‍♂️
* The movie has already lost $10 million on its opening weekend 🤑
* The IMDB rating is already below 4/10 📉

Chart-topping disappointment alert! 🎶

omg, i mean, i think its so cool that nicolas cage took on this project, even if it didnt quite work out 🤪. at least he tried something new and not your usual action flicks, right? 🎬 and can you believe the premise is actually inspired by the infancy gospel of thomas? like, who knew that stuff existed? 🤓. its a shame about the pacing and editing, but sometimes i think those things are just hard to get right 😐. anyway, cage still rocks, even if he didnt quite nail this one 🔥
