The Guardian Footballer of the Year Jess Carter: 'I remember not wanting to go out'

πŸ™Œ think its about time we address this kinda stuff in football, been saying it 4 ages but its only now that ppl like jess are speakin out about the racism & sexism theyve faced πŸ€¦β€β™€οΈ its not just about Jess tho, its a bigger issue thats got to be tackled. gotta make sure theres more players of color on the England squad, and not just bc its cool or trendy πŸ’β€β™€οΈ but because its real life for alot of ppl. sarina weigman sounds like a breath of fresh air tho 🌸 hope shes able 2 make a difference & bring about change

can u believe how harsh racism is in football?? i mean im all for supporting ur country but come on, being called "black bitch" by some french player is not cool πŸ€·β€β™€οΈπŸ˜‘. jess carter's story is so inspiring and relatable tho, she deserves a huge round of applause πŸŽ‰. sarina wiegman sounds like an amazing manager, i love how she's tackling this issue head-on πŸ’ͺ. it's about time we had more players from diverse backgrounds representing england, not just white players πŸ‘. u can't just ignore the systemic racism that still exists in football, we need change πŸ”„. and btw, jess carter is literally a soccer god, i love watching her play 😍.

I think its crazy that Jess Carter is still dealing with racism in the sport shes playing 🀯. I mean, cant we just have a level playing field where everyone gets treated equally? It seems to me like there are still some people in power who dont wanna see players of color succeed or get recognized for their skills. Its all about fairness and equality, you know? Sarina Wiegman might be doing her part, but its not enough till we see more people of color in positions of power 🀝

I'm so done with the lack of diversity in sports πŸ™„. Jess Carter is speaking truth to power here and I love that she's not afraid to call out racism and sexism in football. It's time for England FC to get their act together and start promoting more players from underrepresented backgrounds 🏈. Sarina Wiegman might be doing a great job with the team, but until we see more people of color in leadership positions, it's going to keep being an issue 😊. And can we talk about how mental health is affected when you're constantly dealing with racism and sexism? It's not just Jess Carter, it's every player who has to deal with this stuff πŸ€•. We need systemic change, not just a few token players from underrepresented groups πŸ‘

I'm so fed up with all the hate she got on the pitch πŸ€•... like what even is that? She's trying to play a game, not solve racism problems on her own 😩. I love how she's speaking out about it tho, and that Sarina Wiegman is being super supportive is a big deal πŸ’ͺ. Can't we just have players who can relate to each other in terms of experience and background? It feels like there's always this double standard when it comes to mistakes on the field... I mean, wouldn't you want someone to call out your teammate for messing up too? πŸ€”

omg 😱 can't believe some people still think it's okay to be racist & sexist towards others... πŸ€¦β€β™€οΈ like Jess Carter just spoke out about the abuse she faced at the FIFA Women's World Cup and I'm so proud of her for speaking up πŸ’ͺ! Sarina Wiegman is a total boss for supporting her πŸ™Œ, we need more managers who understand the impact racism has on mental health too 🀝. it's amazing that Jess is part of the England squad & she should be celebrated for representing her country with pride πŸ‡¬πŸ‡§πŸ’«, not scrutinized for making mistakes like some people expect from players of color πŸ™…β€β™€οΈ... we need more diversity in football so everyone feels included & supported πŸ’•!
