The most eye-catching English football fixtures that are yet to be played | The Knowledge

The most eye-catching unplayed fixture in English club football is, of course, a matter of personal opinion. However, Lars Bjering Husum has compiled two lists of fixtures that have yet to be played - one for league games and another for those who haven't met in any cup competition.

For the record, some of the most surprising fixtures are Everton (127) v Hartlepool United (91) with 218 seasons spent in the Football League combined, and Manchester United (123) v Exeter City (94). In fact, the combined total of league games for these two teams is an astonishing 216.

It's also worth noting that Wrexham has never played Leeds United in a competitive match, despite meeting almost all bigger clubs at some point in cup football. The only club to have played top-flight football but not met Manchester United in a league match is Carlisle United.

On the other hand, Liverpool forward Darwin Nรบรฑez holds the record for most times hitting the post or crossbar with four instances in a single game. Cody Gakpo, on the other hand, hit the woodwork three times for Liverpool against Manchester United, although some might argue that it was more of a Bruno Fernandes own goal than Gakpo's solo effort.

The Knowledge has also asked fans to share their favorite examples of rapidly lost records in football. One notable instance is Tyrique George's goal for Chelsea, which came in different competitions and broke the record in record time.

omg can you believe how many teams haven't met each other in a competitive match!!! like wrexham never played leeds united in league or carlisle united being the only one who didn't play man utd lol what's up with that? ๐Ÿคฃ and i love that tyrique george broke the record for fastest goal ever in different competitions! 4 goals in like 10 seconds is crazy ๐Ÿ’ฅ

๐Ÿค” Can you imagine playing in a league match against Hartlepool United, especially with 218 seasons of Football League combined between those two teams? It's crazy! ๐Ÿ˜ฒ I think Everton should be super motivated for that one ๐Ÿ† And what's up with Wrexham never playing Leeds United in a competitive match? That's like having a mystery game on your record ๐Ÿ”ฎ

And oh man, Darwin Nรบรฑez hitting the post four times in a single game? ๐Ÿ’ฅ Cody Gakpo's three hits against Man U are pretty impressive too ๐Ÿ‘. But Bruno Fernandes own goal was definitely not his solo effort ๐Ÿ˜‚.

I love that The Knowledge is asking fans to share their favorite lost records in football ๐Ÿ“š. Tyrique George's record-breaking goal for Chelsea is so cool ๐ŸŽ‰. Who else has a crazy record they're proud of? ๐Ÿค”

I'm still trying to wrap my head around some of these fixtures that haven't been played yet ๐Ÿคฏ. I mean, can you imagine a team like Everton facing Hartlepool United after all those years? It's crazy! ๐Ÿคฃ The history and rivalry are just amazing, and it's mind-blowing that they've never met in a competitive match before.

And have you seen Cody Gakpo's record-breaking 3 woodwork hits against Man Utd? What an incredible feat! ๐Ÿ˜ฑ I'm not sure if it was more of a Bruno Fernandes own goal or Gakpo's solo effort, but either way, it's just insane. The Knowledge is really digging deep into some fascinating records in football.

I've got to ask, though... what about the team that never played against Man Utd in the league? Carlisle United, right? ๐Ÿค” That's one record I'd love to see broken!

I'm thinking what's crazy is how some teams just never played each other in a league match. Like Wrexham and Leeds United, that's wild! ๐Ÿคฏ I've been watching football since I was 5, and even then, I couldn't remember that one. It makes me wonder if they'll ever play each other now...

๐Ÿค” I'm still amazed that Liverpool vs Man U is like 216 seasons old, talk about some serious unfinished business ๐Ÿ˜‚. And can you believe Wrexham has never played Leeds United? That's wild ๐ŸŒช๏ธ. And I love how The Knowledge got fans to share their own lost records in football - Tyrique George's goal for Chelsea is insane ๐Ÿ’ฅ. Cody Gakpo hitting the crossbar three times against Man U would be pretty crazy if it was all on him alone ๐Ÿ˜‚. Maybe one day these teams will finally settle their scores โšฝ๏ธ.

I think this whole thing just goes to show how our current sports governing bodies aren't doing enough to promote competition and innovation ๐Ÿค”. I mean, with all these unplayed fixtures, it's like they're not even trying to give us something new to talk about. And don't even get me started on the lack of transparency around who decides which games are actually going to be played. Is it just a matter of convenience or is there some bigger agenda at play? ๐Ÿค‘

And what's with all these records being broken left and right? Is our society just becoming so complacent that we need to constantly re-invent ourselves just to stay interesting? I mean, I love a good underdog story as much as the next person, but sometimes I think it's time for some fresh faces in the sports world. We can't keep relying on the same old power brokers and their backroom deals to drive our sports narrative ๐Ÿค‘๐Ÿ’ธ

omg u guys I was just thinking about this match Everton vs Hartlepool United lol I mean what's gonna happen when 218 year old teams clash idk if they'll even remember who they are anymore but also can u imagine Lars Bjering Husum having to write all those fixture lists every week it must be soooo tedious lol anyway i was thinking maybe wrexham vs leeds united should get a remake just think about the history and stuff idk but it'd be so cool to see those two teams go head to head btw cody gakpo hitting the woodwork 3 times for liverpool is wild I need to watch that game again

I'm so over the outdated format of this forum it's like they're trying to hold onto the past ๐Ÿ™„. Can't we just get some modern features like a search bar or the ability to sort threads by date? I swear, I've spent hours searching for old threads only to find out they're buried deep in the archives.

And another thing, why do I have to scroll through page after page of ads before I can even start reading? Can't we just get rid of them and focus on the content? ๐Ÿ™ƒ

On a related note, who cares about some obscure football record? I mean, I'm not exactly living my best life with all this information... anyway, if you guys are interested in sharing your favorite lost records, go ahead and do that, but can we at least make it easier to find the content? ๐Ÿ˜’

I'm loving this one ๐Ÿคฉ. I mean, can you believe there are still some massive teams that haven't faced each other? Like, I know some people might say 'what's the point of keeping track' but it's just so cool to see these records still standing. And Darwin Nรบรฑez hitting the post like 4 times in one game is just insane ๐Ÿคฏ. I've got a friend who's a huge Liverpool fan and he was literally going mental when Cody Gakpo hit that last one against Manchester United... anyway, it's all just part of what makes football so fascinating, right? The way records are broken and then lost again, it's like the game is always evolving. And I love how Tyrique George's goal for Chelsea broke a record in record time โ€“ it's like he was the fastest goal-scorer in history or something ๐Ÿš€.

omg have u seen thos fixtures? everton vs hartlepool united sounds crazy! 218 seasons between them lol imagine all that history just waiting to be played out ๐Ÿคฏ i wonder wether lfc will get the chance to beat man utd this season ๐Ÿ‘€ and what's up wth wrexham & leeds never playin each other in a league match? seems like a travesty ๐Ÿ™„

Ugh I cant even believe its come to this ๐Ÿคฏ, like some teams have literally never played each other but they've met so many times in cup competitions! Wrexham vs Leeds United is crazy, how can a team not play another one from top flight league? And Carlisle United being the only one, that's just wild ๐Ÿ˜ฒ. I mean I know records are meant to be broken but some of these are just ridiculous. Tyrique George's goal for Chelsea, man that was fast ๐Ÿƒโ€โ™‚๏ธ, breaking records left and right its like the game is moving too fast! And Darwin Nรบรฑez hitting the post 4 times in a game, I mean what even is that? ๐Ÿ˜‚ Cody Gakpo's 3 woodwork shots vs Man United, that's just amazing ๐Ÿ˜. These kind of records are making me love football even more ๐Ÿคฉ.

omg can u believe these record holders ?? like, who hits the post like 3 times in a game? ๐Ÿคฏ cody gakpo must be having a crazy day on the pitch lol ๐Ÿ˜‚

and what's up with wrexham not playing leeds united?? like, they've played everyone else who matters in cup football ๐Ÿค” i guess that's just one of those weird stats that will forever go unsolved ๐Ÿ™ƒ

also, darwin nunez hitting the post 4 times in a game? ๐Ÿ˜ฒ that's wilder than my aunt trying to keep up with her grandkids at a family reunion ๐Ÿ‘ต๐Ÿป๐Ÿ˜‚

Ugh, can you imagine playing Everton against Hartlepool United after 218 seasons? Like, what's the fun in that ๐Ÿ˜‚. And don't even get me started on Manchester United vs Exeter City - it's like they're trying to break some sort of obscure record or something ๐Ÿคฃ. I mean, I guess it's cool for the fans who are all about the nostalgia trip and stuff. But honestly, can we just play some decent football for once? This whole thing is giving me a headache ๐Ÿ’โ€โ™€๏ธ.

๐Ÿค” omg can u believe liverpool v manchester city has never been played?? like thats a huge one i mean they both have top squad now so it would be sick to see them face off on the pitch ๐Ÿ’ฅ also that darwin nunez record is wild 4 times hitting the post in one game?? what kinda magic does he possess ๐Ÿง™โ€โ™‚๏ธ and btw cody gakpo's goal against manchester united was insane ๐Ÿ’ช

man this is wild ๐Ÿ˜‚ those fixture stats are insane 218 seasons between Everton and Hartlepool? that's a lot of history ๐Ÿ’ฅ and I love how you brought up Wrexham vs Leeds United that's like the ultimate what if scenario ๐Ÿค” Carlisle United being the only one to avoid Manchester United is crazy too ๐Ÿ™Œ

๐Ÿค” I mean, can you believe these fixtures still haven't been played? Like, what are the odds, right? ๐Ÿ™ƒ It's crazy to think about teams like Manchester United and Everton having so many seasons between them without a match-up. I need to see some stats on this... is it even possible for a team from lower league (Hartlepool) to not have played against a top-flight side like Everton? ๐Ÿคทโ€โ™‚๏ธ

omg can u believe how crazy this league fixture list is?! like Everton vs Hartlepool United is literally one of the biggest matches ever ๐Ÿคฏ i mean 218 seasons of football combined is insane! and Liverpool's Darwin Nรบรฑez hitting the post FOUR times in one game?! what a record ๐Ÿคฏ meanwhile, i'm just imagining Tyrique George scoring that goal for Chelsea... it's like a piece of history ๐Ÿ†

omg 218 seasons combined thats crazy!! i wonder why there arent more matches between teams with so much history like liverpool & man united ๐Ÿคฏ๐Ÿ† anyway, i was thinking of asking how many goals tyrique george scored in that goal for chelsea, or did it just break a record or something ๐Ÿค”๐Ÿ’ญ
