Atari Hotel Plan for Las Vegas Scrapped as Phoenix Project Takes Center Stage

A major setback for gamers and investors alike: the plans for a gaming-themed Atari hotel in Las Vegas have reportedly been scrapped, leaving only the Phoenix location to move forward. According to a spokesperson for Atari Hotels, "it didn't come to fruition" in Las Vegas, with the company shifting its focus towards the Arizona site.

Initially announced six years ago, the project was slated to expand across eight US cities, including Austin, Chicago, Denver, and San Francisco. However, it seems that only Phoenix was always meant to be the starting point, with other locations struggling to stay afloat. The FAQ on the Atari Hotels website reveals that development agreements are being explored for Denver, but the prospects of other sites remain uncertain.

Construction on the Phoenix hotel, which had initially been set to break ground in 2020, is now expected to begin later this year, with an opening planned for 2028. However, financial concerns may pose a significant challenge to the project's success. The company still needs to raise $35 million to $40 million to bring its "playable destination" for gamers to life.

The news comes as a disappointment to fans of retro gaming and investors who had pinned their hopes on the Atari Hotel venture. With the Las Vegas location no longer in the picture, it remains to be seen whether Phoenix can live up to its promise and deliver a unique gaming experience that will captivate audiences.

ugh man this is soooo disappointing ๐Ÿค•๐Ÿ‘Ž i was literally counting down the days till the atari hotel opened in vegas now i guess phoenix is gonna have to step up ๐Ÿ‘€๐Ÿ’ช it's still gonna be cool but like... where's the love for las vegas, fam? ๐Ÿค”

omg i'm like soooo sad about this ๐Ÿค• i was hyped for an atari hotel in vegas like forever! what's going on with the phoenix project tho? they're still getting money to build it but only just now? shouldn't that have happened ages ago? anyway i guess i'll just have to stick to playing video games online like i always do ๐ŸŽฎ๐Ÿ˜Š

aww man ๐Ÿค•... just what we needed another gaming-themed hotel to get lost in the sea of overpriced luxury resorts. i mean, who thought 8 cities was a good plan anyway? ๐Ÿค” phoenix is still gonna have some hype with atari hotels, but las vegas was always gonna be the flagship location... now it's just gonna be a sad, abandoned space ๐Ÿšซ. and $35-40 million is like, a lot of cash to shell out for a hotel ๐Ÿค‘... fingers crossed it all comes together tho ๐Ÿ˜…

OMG u guys I'm literally crushing ๐Ÿคฏ๐Ÿ‘Ž about this news... so I was really stoked when they announced the Atari hotel plans in Vegas like six years ago ๐Ÿคฆโ€โ™€๏ธ but now it's all scrapped ๐Ÿ˜”, can't believe! Phoenix is still getting a chance tho ๐Ÿ’ช and it's cool that they're focusing on that site. 35 million to 40 million dollars is some serious cash ๐Ÿ’ธ need to raise if they wanna make this thing happen lol. I feel bad for the investors who were counting on this project ๐Ÿค‘ guess we'll just have to wait and see how it all goes down... fingers crossed for Phoenix tho ๐Ÿคž๐Ÿผ

ugh, vegas is like losing a kid - you always thought they were gonna come through ๐Ÿคฆโ€โ™‚๏ธ. i mean, an atari hotel? genius or total noob move? either way, the phoenix location is probs gonna be the only one that survives this mess ๐Ÿ’ธ. 35-40 million bucks just because of financials? yikes, good luck with that... or not ๐Ÿคฃ

ugh i feel bad for all the fans of retro gaming... i mean who wouldn't wanna stay at an atari-themed hotel ๐Ÿค–๐Ÿ’ธ they were so hyped about it and now its just phoenix or bust ๐ŸŒต๐Ÿ˜ like what happened to the others? anyway, im not surprised tbh, construction costs and funding can be super high, especially when you're talking about building a destination that's supposed to be all about gaming ๐Ÿคฏ but still, its sad for everyone involved... fingers crossed phx gets it done tho ๐Ÿ’ช

๐Ÿค” u gotta think, if the devs were only ever planning on doing Phoenix anyway... maybe it was always meant to be the 'main event'? idk, sounds like they just didn't wanna bother with all those other cities ๐Ÿค‘ like Austin & Chicago? i mean, wouldn't that just dilute the gaming experience or something? anywayz, if the devs can get that $35-40 million together, phoenix might just turn out alright ๐Ÿ’ธ

omg I'm so bummed about this ๐Ÿค•... like I was really looking forward to checking out one of those Atari hotels in Vegas lol guess i'll have to stick with visiting arcades instead ๐ŸŽฎ anyway, $35 million is a pretty big amount of money... like, how does it even get invested for a project that's still kinda sketchy? ๐Ÿค‘

I'm kinda bummed about this ๐Ÿค”... I mean, an Atari hotel sounds like a dream come true for retro gamers! But, at the same time, $35-40 million is a pretty penny to throw around ๐Ÿ’ธ... I'm not sure if it's gonna pay off. Phoenix has its perks, but what about the other cities? Are they just gonna be left out in the cold โ„๏ธ? The Las Vegas location was supposed to be this huge gaming hub, and now it's just... gone ๐Ÿšซ... Can we really expect the new location to live up to that hype? I'm skeptical ๐Ÿ˜.

I'm low-key bummed about this ๐Ÿค”. I mean, who wouldn't want a retro arcade hotel in the heart of Vegas? The thought of immersing yourself in classic Atari games while enjoying the sights & sounds of the city was actually kinda lit ๐Ÿ”ฅ. But, I guess you can't blame the devs for being cautious โ€“ $35-40 million is a pretty penny to sink into a project ๐Ÿค‘. Still, it's sad that we won't get to see this come to life in Las Vegas... now it's all about Phoenix, and fingers crossed they'll make it happen! ๐Ÿคž

ugh i was really hyped about this project ๐Ÿคฏ like what happened to the other cities? i remember they said it would be an epic destination for retro gamers but now it's just phoenix and denver struggling to stay afloat ๐Ÿค” maybe they should've just focused on one location from the start? ๐Ÿ’ธ 35-40 million is a lot of cash, hope they can raise enough to make this thing happen ๐Ÿค‘

ugh, another classic arcadegame revamp fails lol ๐Ÿคฃ so like, there's this one hotel thingy and now it's just gonna have a phoenix instead of vegas - talk about a bird-brained scheme ๐Ÿ˜‚ anyway, i guess phx was always meant to be the real deal all along? idk man, 2028 opening seems super optimistic considering how much cash is still needed ๐Ÿค‘ gotta hope they don't pull a joJo's adventure on us and make it a wild goose chase ๐ŸŒณ

Ugh, it's just another example of how things never seem to go as planned, right? I mean, remember when you could actually buy Atari games at the local arcade for like $5? Now they're trying to bring back the retro gaming vibe with a hotel in Phoenix, but it's all so last gen. The prices are gonna be way too high for your average gamer and investors are just gonna sit on their hands, waiting for something else that doesn't flop. I guess only time will tell if this thing actually comes together ๐Ÿคž

omg ๐Ÿ˜ฑ just heard about this ๐ŸŽฎ๐Ÿ˜ฉ atari hotel plans scrapped ๐Ÿšซ phx is still on ๐Ÿคž but las vegas location is goners ๐Ÿ˜” financials are gonna be super tight ๐Ÿ’ธ๐Ÿค‘ $35 mil to $40 mil needed ๐Ÿค‘ hope they can pull it off ๐Ÿ’ชPhoenix needs to bring its A-game ๐ŸŽฎ๐Ÿ’ฅ

ugh ๐Ÿ˜” i was so hyped for this thing back in 2020! remember when it was announced? ๐Ÿคฏ now it's just gonna happen in phoenix...like, what even is the point of having multiple locations if they're all struggling to stay afloat? ๐Ÿคทโ€โ™‚๏ธ and $35-40 million is just crazy ๐Ÿ’ธ. i mean, can't they just scale back or something? but i guess that's not how it works with big corporations ๐Ÿ’ผ. i just hope phoenix doesn't end up being a disappointment like las vegas...that would be a major bummer ๐Ÿคฆโ€โ™‚๏ธ

So this is what happens when you try to bring back the past ๐Ÿค–. I mean, think about it, Atari was all about innovation, but now they're stuck on a single idea ๐Ÿ™„. It's like trying to revive a dead format โ€“ won't work ๐Ÿšซ. And now they're shifting focus to Phoenix? That's just a Band-Aid solution ๐Ÿค•. The real question is, will the Phoenix hotel even be able to compete with other gaming destinations in the US? I'm not convinced ๐Ÿค”.

This whole thing reminds me of how some politicians try to cling to past successes instead of embracing new ideas ๐Ÿ’ผ. You can't just keep trying to relive the good old days and expect things to work out ๐Ÿ‘Ž. Atari needs to think outside the box (or in this case, the pixelated world of classic video games) ๐ŸŒ.

I'm not a fan of the whole "playable destination" thing either โ€“ sounds like more marketing speak than actual substance ๐Ÿ“ข. Where's the substance? The real challenge is raising that $35 million to $40 million ๐Ÿ’ธ. I'd be surprised if they can pull it off without some serious compromises ๐Ÿ”’.

๐Ÿ˜ It's defo sad news for all you retro gaming fans out there... ๐Ÿค” I mean, who wouldn't wanna check out an Atari hotel with sick rooms and arcade games galore? ๐ŸŽฎ But at the same time, it's probs better that they're focusing on just one location now instead of spreading themselves too thin. ๐Ÿ“ˆ Phoenix is still gonna be a cool spot, but you gotta wonder how they'll manage to make it work financially... ๐Ÿ’ธ $35-40 million ain't no chump change! ๐Ÿค‘

omg I'm soooo bummed about this ๐Ÿค•...I know some ppl might think Atari's gonna tank without this vegas spot but I still think they got this ๐Ÿ’ช! Phoenix is def the way 2 go & I'm hyped for it ๐Ÿ”ฅ we just need 2 see how they execute & bring that gaming energy to AZ ๐ŸŽฎ it's not over yet, let's give phoenix a shot โšก๏ธ

ugh, it's like they just gave up on this whole thing ๐Ÿค• i was so hyped about the Atari hotel, and now it's just getting pushed back again. like, what even is the point of all these different locations if they're not gonna happen? denver and austin and chicago are already struggling to get off the ground... it's just not looking good for this project ๐Ÿค‘

i don't think anyone really knew how well funded the phoenix location was supposed to be. like, $35 million is a lot of money to throw at something that might not even happen ๐Ÿคทโ€โ™€๏ธ anyway, i guess we'll just have to wait and see if it's gonna come to fruition (pun intended). it would be kinda cool if they actually made it happen, but idk...
