'They killed civilians in their beds': chaos and brutality reign after fall of El Fasher

Eyewitnesses describe the chaotic scenes unfolding as the Sudanese city of El Fasher fell to the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) on Sunday, leaving hundreds of civilians dead or injured. Those who managed to escape tell harrowing tales of violence and brutality as the RSF took control of the hospital where many were being treated.

The situation on the ground is dire, with over 1,000 people making a treacherous journey to the town of Tawila in North Darfur after fleeing El Fasher. Many are reported to have been shot or killed by the RSF, including women and children. The number of civilian casualties has risen to more than 2,000, according to the Joint Forces.

Those who survived the initial attack describe scenes of chaos and destruction, with RSF fighters storming the hospital and killing patients in their beds. Many were left injured, while others were forced to flee into the desert without food or water. Some were even detained by the RSF after being caught without ransoms, sparking fears of further violence.

The Sudan Liberation Army faction led by Abdul Wahid Mohamed al-Nur (SLA-AW) has deployed additional fighters around Tawila to protect those fleeing El Fasher and prevent clashes with the RSF. However, it's clear that many are still trapped in Garney, where thousands remain held captive by the RSF and allied militias.

The situation is being described as a humanitarian disaster, with Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) reporting a large influx of people to its clinic in Tawila hospital. Many arrived in a state of extreme weakness, suffering from malnutrition and dehydration after an extremely dangerous journey.

The RSF has denied allegations of brutality, with the head of the force, Gen Mohamed Hamdan Dagalo, stating that any soldier or officer who had "violated the right of any person" would be held accountable. However, eyewitness accounts paint a different picture, one of widespread violence and disregard for human life.

As the situation continues to unfold, it's clear that the fall of El Fasher has sparked a humanitarian crisis of unprecedented proportions. The international community must act quickly to address the scale of the suffering and ensure those responsible are held accountable for their actions.

https://www.bbc.com/news/world-africa-58413375 πŸš¨πŸ’” Sudan is literally burning right now. I'm still trying to process what's happening. Thousands dead, injured or missing... it's just heartbreaking. The images of the hospital being stormed and patients being killed in their beds are just too much to handle. And now people are stuck in the desert with no food or water? It's a humanitarian disaster of epic proportions. The RSF is denying any wrongdoing but eyewitnesses are saying otherwise. We need to see some serious action from the international community ASAP 🀞

OMG, this is getting so out of hand 🀯😱! Sudanese city of El Fasher just got taken over by RSF and it's like a nightmare come true 😩. Those civilians, especially women & kids, are innocent lives being lost in such brutal ways πŸ’”. The fact that hospital staff were even targeted is absolutely horrific πŸš‘. Can't believe the RSF is denying these allegations πŸ™„. We need to hold them accountable for their actions ASAP ⏰. It's a full-blown humanitarian disaster over there, with 2k+ civilian casualties reported so far πŸ“Š. MSF is doing its best, but we can't just sit back and watch this unfold 🀯. The international community needs to step in NOW and provide help, resources & support for those affected πŸ’ͺ #JusticeForSudan #HumanitarianCrisis #RSFAccountability

🚨this is just so bloody awful the way these forces are treating civilians is just unconscionable i mean we're talking about women & kids getting shot or killed by the rsf in broad daylight what kind of military does that? and now they're detaining people who can't even afford to ransom themselves out of this situation it's like they're just choosing which lives to save and which to let slip away

the international community needs to step up ASAP & demand answers from these forces about what's going on in el fasher & tawila we can't just sit back & watch as thousands of people suffer because of some power struggle between factions i mean how many more lives have to be lost before something is done

😱 oh man this is getting super ugly in Sudan I'm literally so worried about the civilians who got caught up in all this violence it's like they're just trying to survive but the situation on the ground is straight nightmarish πŸŒƒ hundreds of people dead or injured and thousands more trapped in Garney with no food or water for days I mean how are you supposed to react when your hospital gets stormed by armed fighters? 🀯 it's chaos, pure chaos 🚨

man, have you noticed how they're just glossing over the whole thing? like, Gen Dagalo is talking about accountability and all that, but eyewitnesses are telling a completely different story πŸ€”. it's clear to me that there's more going on here than meets the eye... maybe even some sort of covert operation to control the flow of refugees? idk, but something fishy is definitely going on...

😩 I'm really worried about what's happening in Sudan right now. It sounds like such a nightmare scenario - people fleeing their homes, being shot or killed by armed fighters, and then being detained or left to die without food or water. πŸ€• The thought of hospitals being stormed and patients being killed in their beds is just heartbreaking. We need to do everything we can to support those affected and get to the truth about what's really going on there. It's clear that this isn't just a military conflict, it's a full-blown humanitarian disaster πŸ’”.

my heart is breaking for these innocent people who have been through so much trauma & pain πŸ€•πŸ’” it's just not right that women & kids got caught in the crossfire & lost their lives, or worse still, were forced to suffer from malnutrition & dehydration after fleeing their homes. we gotta do better to support those who are trying to survive amidst all this chaos πŸ’– can't even imagine how scary it must've been for them to witness their hospital getting stormed & patients being killed in their beds 😱

I'm still in shock after hearing about what happened in El Fasher πŸ€•. It's like something out of a nightmare, people getting caught up in the crossfire and innocent civilians getting killed or injured... it's just not right. I remember watching news reports from Sudan during the early 2000s and how the conflict seemed to never end. And now it seems like we're still dealing with the aftermath.

I'm so worried about those who made it out of El Fasher, they must be going through hell trying to find food and water in the desert 🌡. The situation on the ground is dire and I just hope that someone will come forward to help these people ASAP. It's just not right that they're being held captive by the RSF... where are the leaders of this world when we need them? 😩

OMG 🀯 this is insane! 2,000+ people killed or injured? It's like something out of a nightmare 😱 and the RSF just denying all allegations? πŸ™„ Like, how can they expect to be believed when there's so much evidence of brutality? The pics of patients in their beds being shot by RSF fighters are haunting... it's like I'm watching a train wreck that I don't want to look at 😳 but gotta. I feel for the civilians who got caught up in this mess, many are still stuck in Garney with no end in sight 🀯 what's going on?! The international community needs to step in ASAP and make sure these people get the help they need πŸ’–

man this is super sad news πŸ€• 2k people killed already? it's like they're not even human anymore rn i'm thinking about those women & kids who were just trying to escape but ended up getting shot or worse... and now they're stuck in the desert with no food, water or help what's going on?! we gotta do something ASAP to stop this humanitarian disaster πŸš¨πŸ’”

"Those who do not learn from history are doomed to repeat it." πŸ€• It's heartbreaking to see the same patterns of violence and brutality repeating themselves in Sudan, where innocent civilians are caught in the crossfire of warring factions. We need leaders who prioritize humanity over politics and work towards a peaceful resolution to this conflict. The international community must step up and provide aid to those in dire need. We can't just sit back and watch as people suffer. 🌎

OMG 🀯 just saw this news about what's happening in Sudan and I'm literally shaking my head... 2,000+ civilians dead or injured? How can that even happen?! πŸ€• The RSF is supposed to be fighting for the government, but it sounds like they're just perpetuating more violence and chaos. And those innocent women and kids getting shot? Noooo! 😩 I'm so tired of reading about these humanitarian disasters and not seeing any real action from anyone to stop them. We need some serious intervention here ASAP πŸ’₯

πŸŒͺ️ this is getting crazy in sudan... like what even is going on there? 🀯 rsf just took over el fasher and now we got thousands of ppl fleeing into the desert w/ no food or water πŸπŸ’§ it's a humanitarian disaster on a massive scale. πŸ’”

i'm so tired of these factions & militias just causing chaos & violence... can't they just talk it out? πŸ’¬ and what's up w/ all the killings? πŸ€·β€β™€οΈ women & kids shouldn't have to go through this... it's just heartbreaking 😩

the rsf is denying any wrongdoing but eyewitnesses are saying otherwise... like, how many times do we gotta see this before we take action? ⏰ we need to get aid in there ASAP and make sure ppl are being held accountable for their actions 🚨

This is just heartbreaking πŸ€•. I mean, can you even imagine walking 1,000 miles with no food or water, only to get shot by your own army? 🚨 It's like something out of a nightmare. And the fact that women and kids are getting hurt... it's just not right 😒.

I'm so sorry for everyone affected by this crisis. We need to do more to stop the fighting and help these people. The international community needs to step in ASAP ⏰. I mean, we've seen stuff like this before in Syria or Yemen, but Sudan is a new one, and it's just devastating πŸŒͺ️.

I'm glad there are some good folks like MSF trying to help, but they can't do it alone. We need more aid, more support... more of everything, really 😭. It's time for us to take action and make sure these people get the help they need ❀️.

You know what's crazy? I was just thinking about this amazing recipe I tried last weekend 🀯. It was like this Korean BBQ dish, but with a twist - they added these crispy garlic bits on top that just took it to the next level 🀀. I swear, it sounds weird, but trust me, it works! Anyway, back to Sudan... I mean, have you guys ever tried making those crispy garlic bits from scratch? It's actually not that hard 😊. Oh, and I was thinking we should totally start a recipe exchange thread on this site... what do you think? πŸ€”

This is so heartbreaking I can't even watch videos of what happened in El Fasher, it's like something out of a nightmare. So many innocent lives lost, women and children, all just trying to survive, and now they're stuck in the desert without food or water. The RSF needs to take responsibility for their actions, denying allegations of brutality is not going to cut it when you've seen what's happening on the ground. We need to see concrete steps taken by the international community to help these people, it can't just be all talk. MSF's report of people arriving in a state of extreme weakness is devastating. How are we supposed to call this a humanitarian disaster and not act on it?

omg u gotta be kidding me!!!1 2k people dyin in Sudan cuz some rebel group took over?? its like, wut r we even doin here? 🀯 i mean im all 4 humanitarian crises but this is just ridiculous. and ppl are dyin in hospital beds?? that's like, so not right. i feel 4 those innocent civilians who got caught in the middle of all this chaos. they didnt deserve 2 die. πŸ™ we need 2 take action ASAP or its gonna b a total disaster. πŸŒͺ️

This is getting outta hand 🀯, 2000+ civilians dead or injured? like what's next? They need to sort this mess out ASAP, can't let it turn into a full-blown refugee crisis 🚨. I mean, I'm no expert but from what I've seen on the news, RSF denying allegations of brutality but eyewitnesses say otherwise... sounds like they're covering something up πŸ€₯. Should be an investigation or something, don't wanna see more innocent people get hurt πŸ‘Ž.
