This week on "Sunday Morning" (Jan. 11)

Millions of Americans are struggling with medical care, burdened by high deductibles and denied coverage for necessary tests and treatment by insurance companies. Erin Moriarty of "48 Hours" talks with doctors and health experts about how medical care is being eroded by insurers motivated by profit.

In a recent episode of "Sunday Morning," the program looked back at historical events on January 11, including the Monroe Doctrine, which has influenced U.S. foreign policy for generations.

The art world also made headlines as Anselm Kiefer's latest exhibition at the Saint Louis Art Museum in St. Louis, Mo., featured his three-story-tall abstract canvases. The show, entitled "Becoming the Sea," was inspired by rivers cutting through America's Midwest and a Beat Generation poet.

In other news, a mangled pickup truck in South Bend, Ind., drew mockery online until one man reached out to the owner in a life-changing way. Steve Hartman reports on the story of Mo Riles and the kindness he received from strangers.

Actress Carrie Coon has returned to Broadway in "Bug," written by her playwright-actor husband, Tracy Letts. The two talk with Jim Axelrod about their on- and off-stage partnership.

Oprah Winfrey is one of the best-known, most-admired, and successful people on the planet, but for years she seemed powerless to conquer her fluctuating weight problem. In her new book "Enough: Your Health, Your Weight, and What It's Like To Be Free," Oprah shares her journey towards weight loss and a newfound sense of freedom.

Historian Jay Sexton talks with Mo Rocca about the surprising history of the Monroe Doctrine and how it has influenced U.S. foreign policy for generations.

The program also featured extended interviews with Grateful Dead co-founder Bob Weir, who talked about the group's music and adapting it to performance by a symphony orchestra.

Pioneering dancer and choreographer Carmen de Lavallade, one of the pioneers of American modern dance, passed away on December 29, 2025, at age 94. In this "Sunday Morning" report from 2017, she talked with Rita Braver about her artistic journey and decision to boycott a Kennedy Center Honorees reception following President Trump's remarks about White nationalists who marched in Charlottesville, Va.

The Emmy Award-winning "CBS News Sunday Morning" is broadcast on CBS Sundays beginning at 9:00 a.m. ET. The program also streams on the CBS News app starting at 11:00 a.m. ET.

Wow 🀯! Medical care in America is really struggling right now and it's crazy how insurance companies are prioritizing profits over people's health... Interesting 😊

I'm worried about the people struggling with medical care in the US... πŸ€• It's crazy that insurance companies are making money off of people's health issues and denying coverage for necessary tests and treatment. 😑 What's the point of having healthcare if it's just going to be taken away from you? 🚫

🀯 I'm worried about our healthcare system in the US, it's crazy how high deductibles are and insurance companies deny coverage for essential tests and treatment... πŸ€• millions of Americans are struggling and it's just not right. We need to do something about it, like make insurance companies more transparent and accountable for their decisions. πŸ’Έ It's all about profit over people and that's not okay. πŸ’”

the sad thing about americans struggling with medical care is that its not just the money thats the problem, its the fact that they're being denied coverage for tests and treatment by insurance companies πŸ€•...like how can u live w/ untreated conditions or unmanaged chronic illness? it's heartbreaking thinking about people having to choose between paying their bills or getting the meds they need πŸ’Έ...the focus should be on making healthcare more accessible and affordable, not just profiting off ppl's illnesses πŸ’”

πŸ€• I'm literally so tired of seeing people struggle with medical bills and being denied coverage for basic tests and treatment 🀯 it's like insurance companies are more concerned with lining their pockets than with actually helping people get the care they need πŸ’Έ we need some serious change in this country, stat 🚨

Ugh, can't even watch this news without feeling so bad for those struggling with healthcare πŸ€•πŸ’‰ Millions of people in the US are having to choose between paying their bills and getting medical treatment - it's just not right 😩. I'm glad there are some amazing stories out there, like that pickup truck rescue, to remind us all of kindness still exists πŸš—β€οΈ. And I love that Oprah is finally sharing her weight loss journey, because we all need a little bit of inspiration and hope πŸ’ͺ🏼. It's crazy how much influence one doctrine can have on our foreign policy, but at the end of the day, it's just another example of how complex life can be 🀯. Anyway, I'm sending love to Carmen de Lavallade's family - her legacy lives on through her amazing work πŸ’—.

man... so many good things goin' on here 🀩 but u know what's not gettin' enough love? healthcare in america πŸ˜” millions of ppl strugglin with medical bills and it's just ridiculous πŸ’Έ like, can't we just have decent healthcare for everyone already?! πŸ™„ anywayz, gotta give props to that one guy who reached out to the pickup truck owner online πŸ‘ that's some real kindness right there ❀️

πŸ€” just thinkin', our medical system is like, super broken rn 😩 millions of ppl r strugglin to get proper care cuz insurance co's are more worried 'bout profits than people πŸ€‘ it's like, what's the point of havin all these billions if we can't ensure everyone's got access to basic healthcare? πŸ€·β€β™€οΈ anyway, maybe we need to rethink our priorities and put people over profits? πŸ’Έ just a thought... πŸ‘€

πŸ€• Medical care crisis in America is getting me really frustrated 😑. I feel like insurance companies are more interested in making money than helping people get the help they need. It's not right that millions of Americans have to struggle with high deductibles and denied coverage for necessary tests and treatment. We need some serious change in our healthcare system ASAP πŸ’Έ.

Ugh πŸ€• I'm like so worried about people struggling with medical care in America 🀝 It's crazy how insurance companies can just deny coverage for tests and treatment because it's not profitable πŸ’Έ We need to do something about this ASAP 🚨 My grandma used to pay like 20 bucks a month for her meds back in the day, now I hear it's like $500 a month πŸ’Έ It's so unfair 🀯

it's wild how much pressure americans are put under by their insurance companies 🀯 i mean, millions of people struggling to get the medical care they need is just not right. it's like, shouldn't everyone have access to healthcare no matter what? and these big insurers are just making bank off of ppl's suffering... it's a total systemic problem that needs to be addressed ASAP πŸ’Έ

I'm so worried about people struggling with medical care in America πŸ€•. It's just not fair that insurance companies are prioritizing profits over people's health. I've seen some videos of hospitals and clinics where patients have to wait for hours or even days for treatment, just because they can't afford the deductible πŸ’Έ. It's heartbreaking to think about families having to make impossible choices between paying their medical bills or putting food on the table πŸ”. We need to do something about this ASAP, before more people suffer πŸ•°οΈ.

I'm still thinking about that story of Mo Riles and the kindness he received from strangers 🀯... it's crazy how one good deed can change someone's life, right? I was talking to my friend who just got out of the hospital after having a major surgery, and she's still stressing about the medical bills πŸ€‘. It's like the system is designed to make people struggle, you know?

Ugh man... have you seen those insurance companies lately? 🀯 They're like, literally killing people over deductibles and whatnot. I mean, shouldn't we be able to get some basic medical care without having to break the bank? It's wild how many Americans are struggling with this stuff. Doctors and health experts say it's all about the profit margins, but it feels so much more personal than that... πŸ€•
