Thursday news quiz: torchbearers, traitors and troublemakers

Quiz Time: Separating Fact from Fiction in Today's Headlines

What happens when misinformation and disinformation are on the loose? Do we risk losing ourselves in a sea of uncertainty, or can we find clarity through critical thinking? This week's Thursday news quiz poses just that question.

Fifteen questions await your attention, covering everything from news headlines to pop culture and general knowledge. No prizes will be awarded, but it's all about having fun and exercising your brain. So, how did you fare in the comments section? Share your results and let us know if you think there's been an egregious error in one of the questions or answers.

Take a moment to review each question carefully and think critically before making your mark. But don't worry if it's not perfect – we'll be watching out for any fact-checking attempts masquerading as complaints!

In the meantime, why not take a break from the quiz with some great music? Head over to our YouTube channel to watch Austra's captivating performance of "Fallen Cloud" and see what all the fuss is about.

So, are you ready to separate fact from fiction and put your knowledge to the test? Let's get started on this Thursday news quiz.

omg u know i'm soooo done with fake news 🀯😩 like cant we just hav a platform where ppl can share info without all the drama & speculation?? πŸ™„ anywayz i guess its cool 4 us 2 test our knowledge & see if we can spot a fact from fiction lol. personally tho i think quizzes r more fun w/ prizes lol

I think it's so cool how we can have fun while still keeping our critical thinking hats on πŸ€“. I mean, in today's world, misinformation is like a superpower that can easily turn facts into fiction, and it's up to us to be the superheroes who separate the two πŸ’ͺ. But what I love most about this quiz is that it's not just about getting answers right or wrong - it's also about learning from our mistakes and being open to new ideas πŸ€”. That's where the real growth happens, you know? So, whether we ace the quiz or don't, let's just remember to be kind to ourselves and keep seeking truth in all its forms πŸ’–.

I'm low-key annoyed that they're just serving us a bunch of random questions without any real depth or context πŸ€”. I mean, what if one of those "fun facts" is actually true? Are we supposed to just blindly agree because it's not labeled as an opinion piece? I'd love to see some more nuanced questions that challenge our critical thinking skills πŸ’‘. And btw, Austra's music is fire πŸ”₯ – but only after we've sorted out the truth from the noise πŸ“°

omg i'm so done with these quizzes every week 🀯 but at least this one is about critical thinking which is super important in today's world of fake news 😬 a lot of people are getting played by stuff online and it's crazy to think that some info might not even be true anymore so yeah, let's all just take a minute to fact-check everything we read or see on social media πŸ’‘

OMG I'm low-key nervous about this quiz 🀯 I mean, we've all been there when a headline totally flips what we thought we knew right? πŸ˜‚ But seriously, as someone who's always digging around for the real scoop (aka The Insider πŸ˜‰), I gotta say it's time to dust off those critical thinking skills and fact-check like a pro πŸ’‘

It's so easy to get caught up in the drama of it all, but trust me when I say that separating fact from fiction is key πŸ™ So, take your time, read between the lines, and don't be afraid to challenge what you think you know... especially if it feels too good (or bad) to be true 😜

Anyway, can't wait to see how people do on this quiz! And congrats to Austra for that sick music video πŸŽ΅πŸ‘

I'm not a fan of these quizzes when it comes to news and current events πŸ€”. I feel like they can be kinda misleading, especially if you're just gonna click 'next' without really thinking about what's going on. Can't we just read some actual articles or watch documentaries instead? 😐

I'm so down for a good quiz πŸ€”, but can we take it back to how they used to do these things in the 90s, you know, like "Who Wants to Be a Millionaire" and stuff? Now it's all online and it feels kinda impersonal. I mean, where's the suspense of not knowing if you got it right or wrong? But hey, at least we can have some fun with it πŸŽ‰.

I'm not really sure how I feel about these quizzes lol πŸ€” they're alright, i guess. Like, it's cool that ppl wanna exercise their brainz but sometimes its hard 2 know what's true and what's not πŸ“°. like, have u seen some of the stuff out there online lately? its crazy 🀯. anyhoo, i'll def check out that Austra vid on youtube later πŸ‘€

You know I'm always saying that in today's digital age, it's more important than ever to keep our wits about us when consuming all that information online 🀯. It's easy to get caught up in a sea of news and opinions without even stopping to think if what we're reading is true or just someone trying to stir the pot. I mean, who hasn't seen one of those "breaking news" headlines that sounds too good (or bad) to be true? πŸ“°

But seriously, I love quizzes like this one - they're a great way to test our knowledge and see how we think critically about what's going on in the world. And hey, even if you don't get every answer right, it's all about having fun and exercising your brain, right? So go ahead, give it a try and let me know how you do! πŸ‘

πŸ€” I think it's awesome that we're having a quiz to figure out which headlines are true and which ones are false πŸ“°πŸ’‘. It's so easy to get caught up in what's trending online and not fact-check everything, but it's super important to keep our heads straight and think critically πŸ’ͺ. I love the idea of exercising my brain and having fun at the same time - it's a great way to stay informed without feeling overwhelmed 🀯. And hey, even if we don't get all the answers right, that's okay! It's the process of learning and growing that matters πŸ“šπŸ’‘. Let's do this quiz and see what we can learn πŸŽ‰

idk why ppl even bother with these quizzes, it's all just a bunch of recycled info... or so we think πŸ€” meanwhile, can we pls focus on creating media literacy & critical thinking skills in schools instead? that'd be way more useful than a fun game of "spot the fact" πŸ˜’

I don't know how I feel about these quizzes πŸ€”. On one hand, it sounds like a fun way to exercise my brain and test my knowledge. But on the other hand, what if some of the questions are actually based on old-school fact-checking methods that just aren't reliable anymore? Like, who do they think is "fact-checking" anyway? πŸ€·β€β™‚οΈ I need to see some sources for myself before I even start taking it. Can't just take someone's word for it these days 😐. Give me a link to the YouTube video and some credible info on how these questions were created, or no thanks...

I'm so confused when I see headlines that say one thing but it turns out to be another πŸ€”... like, how can we trust anything anymore? shouldn't we just stick to what our favorite news outlets tell us? or is that just part of the problem? πŸ“°
