A white Christmas would be lovely indeed - a world blanketed in snow, still and quiet. Instead, we're solving today's Wordle instead. The game is simple: guess a five-letter word in six tries or fewer. After each guess, the game gives feedback to help you get closer to the answer. Look out for green letters (in the right spot), yellow letters (in the word but not where they are now) and gray letters (not in the word at all).
To help with today's Wordle, I started my game with STORE, which cut down my options from 41 to just five possibilities: SHINE and SNIDE. Lucky for me, that second guess was correct - SNIDE is the answer.
In competitive mode, I managed to beat the Wordle Bot in four guesses, scoring a point. The Bot's next guess came after four attempts, so it lost a point. Our scores are now tied at 7 points each.
To understand today's Wordle better, let's take a look at its etymology. The word 'snide' likely originated from the northern English dialect in the 18th century and referred to someone who is cunning or deceitful. Over time, it evolved into meaning someone who is mocking or underhandedly critical.
By solving today's Wordle, you can also try your hand at creating your own custom word puzzle game - click here for a challenge.
If you're stuck, try using the Wordle Bot to analyze our games. Its analysis tools can help narrow down possibilities and improve your chances of solving future puzzles.
