Trump says US will do something on Greenland 'whether they like it or not'

US President Donald Trump on Friday reiterated his plan to acquire Greenland, stating that the US will "do something" on the island whether Denmark or other countries agree with it.

Trump's comments come as part of a visit to the White House where he hosted oil executives to discuss investments in Venezuela. The president has repeatedly expressed interest in taking control of Greenland through either purchase or military force, citing national security concerns.

However, his assertions have been met with resistance from Danish officials and European allies who argue that Greenland is not for sale. In a closed-door meeting with members of Congress, Greenland's head of representation to the US said "Our country belongs to the Greenlandic people."

Despite high-profile Republicans and Democrats on Capitol Hill dismissing Trump's plans as unrealistic, Vice President JD Vance defended the administration's interest in the island territory. He emphasized that Greenland is crucial for America's missile defense systems.

A top ally of Trump, House Speaker Mike Johnson, rejected any suggestions of using military force to acquire the island. Meanwhile, Secretary of State Marco Rubio will meet with Danish and Greenlandic officials next week to discuss the matter further.

The White House has yet to provide a clear timeline or cost estimate for acquiring Greenland, with Trump saying he's "not talking about money" at this point. However, it remains to be seen whether his administration can achieve its goal of taking control of the island.

πŸ€” think about it, why do we even care about some random island in the middle of nowhere? is it just a matter of national pride or something deeper? does america's sense of self worth rely on owning every corner of the globe? 🌎 and what about those 'national security concerns'? who exactly would be vulnerable if america didn't have control over greeland? πŸ€·β€β™‚οΈ

omg, this is getting crazy 🀯 like seriously, who thought it was a good idea for the US to try and buy/govern Greenland? doesn't the danish people have a say in their own country? i mean, trump's just making up his own rules here... "our country belongs to the greenlandic people" is so true πŸ™Œ shouldn't that be enough? it's not like they're talking about colonizing or anything (although, let's be real, that's basically what this feels like). anyway, i think it's super problematic that trump's just going to do whatever he wants with the island without even considering the consequences...

Im not sure why Trump is so fixated on Greenland πŸ€”... I mean, we all know that having a huge chunk of ice and some Inuit people doesn't necessarily guarantee national security πŸ’ͺ. It's like he thinks the Russians are just gonna leave their missiles in the Arctic or something πŸ˜‚. Newsflash: it's not that easy to control an entire island just because you want to πŸ€·β€β™‚οΈ.

And what's with this "our country belongs to the Greenlandic people" vibe? I get why they'd want self-determination, but can't we all just get along and find a way to collaborate on defense and stuff without trying to buy or conquer each other's territories? 🀝 It feels like Trump is trying to flex his muscles again and show everyone who's boss πŸ’ͺ.

I'm also not convinced that Greenland's strategic importance for missile defense systems is as big of a deal as we're being told πŸ”. I mean, can't we just find ways to protect our interests without having to take control of an entire island? And what about the environmental impact of even considering military action or large-scale development on the island? 🌎 That's gotta be worth at least some consideration.

I don't get why the US is even interested in Greenland πŸ€”. I mean, what's the big deal? It's just an island, right? They're already stretching their military presence all over the world... and now they want to add this one to the list? πŸ˜’ It feels like they're not thinking about the bigger picture here. And what's with the national security concerns? Is it really that important to them? πŸ€·β€β™‚οΈ I just don't see the need for it. Can we just focus on solving some of the problems they actually have at home? πŸ’Έ

I'm not sure what's more worrying, the idea of the US trying to acquire Greenland or the fact that they're willing to do whatever it takes to get it πŸ€”. I mean, think about it, an island with a population of 56,000 people? It just doesn't seem like a strategic move to me. And what's the real concern here, national security or something else? And another thing, have they even considered the impact on Denmark and Greenland themselves? 🌍 It's not like they're just going to sit back and let it happen... I hope some sense comes out of this, but until then, I'm keeping an eye on this one πŸ‘€

Ugh, this guy is like, so extra 🀣! I mean, who tries to buy an entire country? Like, what's next? Trying to purchase a whole nation on eBay or something πŸ˜‚? I get that he thinks it's for national security reasons and all, but come on, dude. Greenland is not just some US territory waiting to be grabbed 🌎. Those Danish folks are like, totally right, it belongs to the people who live there. And what's with the military force talk? That's like, super aggressive 🚫. I hope those Congress members are keeping him in check, 'cause if they don't, we're in for a whole lotta trouble πŸ’₯.

πŸ€” I'm low-key surprised that nobody's really talking about how much this whole Greenland thing is gonna cost US taxpayers πŸ€‘. Like, Trump's all about "not talking about money" but let's be real, it's gotta be in the billions πŸ’Έ. And what's with all these different opinions from his team? JD Vance wants missile defense, Mike Johnson says no to military force... it's like they can't even agree on a plan 🀯. Meanwhile, Denmark and Greenland are just over here being all like "nope, not for sale" πŸ˜’. I think this whole thing is gonna get stuck in a never-ending loop of diplomatic meetings and bureaucratic red tape πŸ•³οΈ. It's gonna be hard for the US to make any real progress on this one... and we're still left wondering, what's really going on behind closed doors? 🀐

omg I'm like totally baffled by this whole Greenland thing 🀯 Trump is literally trying to own another country? that's wild, right? πŸ˜‚ but for real though, have you ever thought about how crazy it would be if the US did take over an entire island nation just because of some national security concerns? πŸ€” I mean, isn't there like a gazillion other ways to ensure America's safety without going all in on Greenland? 🌎 and what's with all the secrecy around this whole thing? like, can't we just get some straight answers from the White House? πŸ€·β€β™€οΈ anyway, I guess it'll be interesting to see how this all plays out... but honestly, can we talk about something else for a sec? πŸ˜‚

omg, this is getting crazy 🀯! like, who would've thought trumps gonna go after greenland next? i mean, i get it, national security and all that jazz πŸš€, but come on man, it's just an island 🌴! what's the plan here? are we gonna build a giant missile defense base or something? πŸ’₯ and btw, has anyone else noticed how random this timing is? oil executives in vegas, then suddenly greenland... i'm getting some sus vibes πŸ˜’

I'm literally shaking my head 🀯 over this US president's latest move on Greenland 🌎... like, what even is the deal with that? It's not just about oil or resources, it's about national security and all that jazz πŸ’‘... but seriously, can't they see how ridiculous it looks when Trump keeps saying he'll "do something" regardless of anyone else's opinion πŸ™„? I mean, Denmark and European allies aren't exactly going to fold up their flags and let the US just take over their territory without a fight πŸ˜…. And what's with the whole "it belongs to the Greenlandic people" thing? That's like saying we're not allowed to have our own opinions about our country πŸ€·β€β™€οΈ. I'm low-key concerned that this is gonna escalate into something big... but at the same time, it's kinda entertaining to watch πŸ˜‚.

I'm totally sure that the US should just go ahead and take over Greenland πŸ€¦β€β™‚οΈ but at the same time, I completely disagree with myself... like, if Trump really thinks this is gonna happen without any major issues, he's got another thing coming πŸ˜…. The fact is, Denmark and other countries aren't going to let Greenland just be sold off to America willy-nilly 🚫. And even if they did somehow magically agree, it'd be a total disaster for the people of Greenland 🌎. I mean, have you seen the amazing landscapes and unique culture up there? It's not like we can just take over another country without any repercussions 🀯. On the other hand, I do think that America needs to get more into space exploration and defense... but taking over an entire island isn't the way to go πŸš€. Ugh, why can't Trump just make up his mind?! 😩
