UAB football player faces attempted murder charge after allegedly stabbing teammates

Tensions Run High at University of Alabama at Birmingham Football Program After Alleged Stabbing Incident

A dark cloud has settled over the University of Alabama at Birmingham's (UAB) football program after two teammates were allegedly stabbed by a teammate on Saturday morning, just hours before the team's game against the University of South Florida. The incident occurred at the Football Operations Building, and police have taken one player into custody, who is now facing serious charges.

According to a statement from UAB, both victims are in stable condition, but their identities remain undisclosed for privacy reasons. The university has assured that it prioritizes the safety and well-being of all students involved and that an investigation is underway.

The incident occurred just as the team was preparing to take the field, and several players opted out of playing due to the traumatic event. Despite this, the game proceeded with 29 players being honored on Senior Day at Protective Stadium in Birmingham. The UAB team ultimately lost the game 48-18 to South Florida.

As news of the incident spread, concerns grew among fans, friends, and family members about the well-being of those involved. While one player faces serious charges, including aggravated assault and attempted murder, it remains unclear what prompted such a drastic and violent act.

UAB's Interim Head Coach Alex Mortensen expressed his concern for the players' safety but did not provide further details on the incident or the team's response to the crisis. The university has maintained that it will not comment further until the investigation is complete.

omg this is so sad!! uab football program is already under pressure and now this?! i feel bad for those 2 teammates who got stabbed, i hope they get better soon 🤕🏥. one player's facing serious charges which is crazy, i wonder what went down in that Football Ops buildin? didnt see any vids or pics tho lol, think uab should be more open about it tho, but idk if its too early. anyway, my heart goes out to the victims and their families 🤗🙏

OMG u guys I cant even right now 🤯 this incident at UAB is wild... one of the players stabbed 2 teammates like wut happened?! and another player is in custody face serious charges too... i feel bad for those students they dont deserve this 😔

anywayz back to senior day game it was a bummer that some players opted out cuz of what happened its gonna be hard for them to move on from this 🤕 but at least the university is being all supportive and stuff about prioritizing safety u know? 👍

omg i'm literally shook about this uab football program 🤯 I was watching the game and saw what happened after the stabbing, it looked so intense 😨 like how could someone stab their own teammate in real life? 🤔 i feel bad for the victims tho, hopefully they can recover soon 💕 and as for the player who stabbed them... well that's just not okay at all 😡 uab needs to do a better job of addressing this stuff, i know they are investigating but it's been like 24 hours and we still haven't heard anything 🤔 anyway, it's definitely changed my perception of the team now 🤷‍♀️

man, this is just crazy 🤯... you can't make this stuff up. like, how do two teammates just turn on each other like that? it's not just about football anymore, it's about people's lives and well-being. uab needs to get its act together and provide better support for these students, especially after something like this happens. 29 players honored in senior day? what about the mental health of those who were traumatized by the incident? 🤷‍♂️

omg u guys cant believe what happnd at UAB football program 🤯😱 i mean i know stuff happens but stabbing ppl is literally insane idk wut got into those players minds 1 sec they r gonna face serious charges now lol guess u can say the game wasnt exactly fun for them 😂 Senior Day was still lit tho Protective Stadium is always a sick venue lets hope the victims get well soon 💕🏈

🤕 what's going on at UAB football? I was following their season and now this...stabbing incident, can't believe it 🤯 one of their own does something like that to teammates, and they just go out there and play a game? 29 players honored Senior Day but then go out and lose by 30 points...game's not even the same when you're still dealing with trauma 😔 uab needs to get its priorities straight, make sure those guys are taken care of first 💯
