UFC fighter Cameron Smotherman collapses after weigh-in in harrowing scene

US Fighter Collapses at Weigh-In, Fight Cancelled After Harrowing Scene

A harrowing scene unfolded Friday morning when 28-year-old bantamweight fighter Cameron Smotherman collapsed after weighing in for his scheduled bout against Ricky Turcios at the UFC 324 event. The American fighter's condition prompted an immediate medical evaluation, with Smotherman being taken away by medical personnel shortly after falling forward onto the stage floor.

Eyewitnesses described the moment as "chaotic" and "disturbing," while fellow competitors expressed concern for the young fighter's well-being. Following the incident, UFC officials announced that Turcios had been removed from the card, with Smotherman's bout being cancelled indefinitely.

Smotherman, who entered the event with a 12-6 record, appeared visibly unstable at the weigh-in, which was held mere hours before his scheduled fight. This raises questions about the safety protocols in place for fighters, particularly those involved in extreme weight-cutting practices.

The incident serves as a stark reminder of the risks associated with the sport, where athletes often push themselves to the limit in pursuit of victory. The UFC has faced criticism in recent years regarding its handling of weight-cutting issues, and Saturday's event only highlights the ongoing need for reform.

Despite Smotherman's collapse, other fighters on the card experienced their own weight-related struggles, with former flyweight champion Deiveson Figueiredo and flyweight Alex Perez both coming in over the limit. Both fighters will face fines as a result of missing weight.

As UFC 324 gears up to take place later this weekend, concerns about fighter safety will undoubtedly remain at the forefront of fans' minds.

Dude 🤯, what's going on with these young fighters? It's like they're playing a game of Russian roulette with their bodies. Remember when boxers used to go through hell for weight cuts back in the day? They'd lose 20 pounds in one night and still get knocked out by round 5... I mean, it was brutal but at least they knew the risks. Now, with all these fancy supplements and crazy diets, it's like they're trying to defy science itself. And what's up with the UFC not doing anything about it? It's like they're just turning a blind eye while the fighters are breaking their bodies on live TV 📺.

man that's so scary what happened to cameron smotherman 🤕 he was just trying to make it in the fight game and now this... weight-cutting can be super deadly tbh i've seen some vids of fighters struggling with it before but nothing like this lol how do u think the UFC can improve safety protocols tho? more medical checks or something? also, poor ricky turcios 🤷‍♂️ having to deal with this last min he was already hyped for the fight

omg u guys i cant even right now 😱 i was watching this fight weigh-in live and that poor cameron smotherman just face planted on stage 🤯 i mean i know fighters take risks in the sport but wow that was harrowing 💀 my heart is still racing thinking about it 🎥 i feel bad for him and his team, hope he's okay now 🙏 and u can imagine how stressful this must be for him & ricky turcios who was supposed to fight him? 😩 what if he had a seizure or something?? 💉 the UFC needs to seriously rethink their safety protocols ASAP ⏰ cuz that was just too close for comfort 👎

This is so fishy! 🤔 Like they just cancelled the fight on a whim and didn't even bother to give us an explanation? What's really going on here? Is it because Cameron Smotherman's weight cut was too drastic or something? I bet there's more to this story than meets the eye. The UFC always seems to be covering something up, and I'm not buying that this is just a random incident. There must be some kind of conspiracy at play... 🤫 What if it had something to do with Smotherman's past performances or his team? I need to dig deeper into this one! 👀
