The Philadelphia 76ers' VJ Edgecombe is set to make his All-Star debut next month, after being named one of the 21 NBA rookies and sophomores selected for the Rising Stars Challenge. Edgecombe, just 20 years old, will join a pool that also includes seven G League standout players.

Edgecombe's selection marks the only appearance by a Sixer at the event, although it appears fellow rookies Jared McCain, Adem Bona, Justin Edwards, and Johni Broome won't be able to take advantage of the All-Star break. Instead of jetting off for vacation, they'll be staying behind with their team.

As the No. 3 overall pick in last year's draft, Edgecombe has made a significant impact on his young career. With 41 starts under his belt, he's provided scoring punch and playmaking prowess, not to mention tenacious perimeter defense. His emergence has been instrumental in the Sixers' turnaround this season, with the team already surpassing their win total from last year.

Edgecombe's selection serves as a well-deserved reward for his hard work, following a dismal 2024-25 campaign that saw him used as a draft pick to aid the team's rebuild.

I'm not sure I buy all this fuss around Edgecombe being an All-Star. Just 'cause he's made some plays and scored points doesn't mean he's actually a game-changer. And what's with the hype on the Rising Stars Challenge? Is it just gonna be a bunch of young players running around, trying to show off? 🤔 I'm not convinced it's anything more than an excuse for them to get some extra practice in before the season resumes. And don't even get me started on how many G League players are included in this thing... seems like they're just throwing a bunch of unknowns out there, hoping someone will step up. 🏀
 
I'm getting so sick of these All-Star selections... it feels like they're just handing out awards to anyone who shows up on their team's roster 🙄. I mean, Edgecombe is talented and all, but 20 years old? He's still a rookie! What about all the other guys on his team that aren't even getting recognized? Like, Jared McCain didn't make it? 🤕 Edgecombe's All-Star debut is cool and all but the fact that he has to come back from the break means he'll be burnt out by the end of the season 🚧. The kid needs some real time off not just a mini-vacation with his team. And btw, did you see that the 76ers are still like 5th in the East? Progress is slow 📉
