What’s going on in metro Detroit this week (Nov. 19-25) - Detroit Metro Times

Metro Detroit is buzzing with exciting events this week.

On November 20, the Detroit Historical Museum will open its multi-media exhibition on a century of Motor City hockey, featuring rarely seen artifacts, legendary player uniforms, and iconic moments from the Red Wings' history. The massive exhibition spans three galleries and also includes other pro hockey teams in the city.

In related news, the Detroit Institute of Arts is hosting a lecture by Pueblo and Anishinaabe artist Kathleen Wall on Indigenous art. Wall will reflect on growing up between two distinct cultural worlds and how it shaped her art.

Meanwhile, downtown Detroit is getting into the holiday spirit with its annual Christmas tree lighting ceremony. The event features performances by multiplatinum country artist BRELAND, pop singer Natalie Jane, Olympic-level ice skaters Polina Edmunds, Emmanuel Savary, Khloe Felton, and local skating talents. Visitors can enjoy giveaways, holiday shopping, and a stunning display of twinkling lights.

On November 21, Campus Martius Park will host the grand opening of The Rink at Campus Martius Park. Admission is free, but organizers encourage guests to bring new gloves to benefit Mittens for Detroit, a local nonprofit that helps keep local children and adults warm this winter.

George Harrison fans can rejoice as The Schvitz Health Club is celebrating the legendary musician's life with a screening of his iconic Concert for Bangladesh film, followed by a live performance featuring Detroit musicians. Proceeds will support Thrive, a non-profit organization supporting meal programs in Bangladesh and the Philippines.

Last but not least, Insane Clown Posse fans are invited to attend the duo's 32nd annual Hallowicked show at Detroit's Masonic Temple on Halloween. The event promises an unforgettable lineup of music and entertainment.

Man, I'm so down for some Motor City hockey action this week! 🏒️ But, gotta say, I'm a bit curious about the exhibition at the Detroit Historical Museum. Like, how much of it is gonna be super nostalgic, you know? And what's the deal with the other pro teams getting in on the action? Is it all about promoting local pride or just trying to cash in on the Wings' legacy? 🤔

And, I gotta give props to Kathleen Wall for bringing some Indigenous art love to the DIA. It's high time we heard more stories from these underrepresented voices. Plus, can't wait to see those Olympic ice skaters bringin' the heat at the Christmas tree lighting ceremony! ❄️🎶

man... I'm loving all these events in metro detroit this week 🤩 especially the hockey exhibition at the historical museum, that sounds like a blast! I mean, who doesn't love some good ol' fashioned hockey history? but at the same time, it's also kinda sad to think about how much professional hockey has changed since its heyday. and those legendary player uniforms, though... I bet they're super cool in person 🎨

and on a more somber note, i'm really stoked that Kathleen Wall is talking about indigenous art at the detroit institute of arts. we need more representation like that, you know? it's so important to amplify the voices of underrepresented communities.

oh and christmas tree lighting ceremony sounds lit 🔥, who doesn't love a good holiday event with some amazing music and performances? but what's up with the giveaways being super limited? shouldn't they be more inclusive?

anyway, can't wait for The Rink at Campus Martius Park to open... i'm all about supporting local nonprofits like mittens for detroit 🎄.

I'm so hyped for all these events in Metro Detroit this week 🤩! I mean, a hockey exhibition at the Detroit Historical Museum sounds like a dream come true for any Red Wings fan ⛸️, and I'm loving that it's featuring other pro hockey teams too. And can we talk about Kathleen Wall's lecture on Indigenous art? It's so cool that the Detroit Institute of Arts is hosting her - I'm definitely checking that out 🎨. And can't wait to see Kathleen Wall's lecture on Indigenous art. Her story is inspiring as hell! 💥 Also, BRELAND's live performance at the Christmas tree lighting ceremony? Can't wait to see Insane Clown Posse rock out again 😂

I'm not sure about all these events in Metro Detroit... I mean, what's with the constant noise and chaos? Can't they just chill for once? 🤯 I'm not a hockey fan or anything, but three galleries dedicated to it? That's just too much for me. And what's up with the Detroit Historical Museum showing off Red Wings' stuff? Can't we learn from other sports teams in the city instead of just focusing on one team?

And then there's this Kathleen Wall thing... I don't know anything about Indigenous art, but I'm not sure if a lecture is really the best way to share that with everyone. Maybe she should just have an exhibition or something? 🤔

I guess it's nice that they're doing stuff for charity, like The Rink at Campus Martius Park and Mittens for Detroit... but why do we need so many events in one place? It feels like too much for me to handle... 😒

I'm super hyped for these events in Metro Detroit this week 🤩! I mean, a hockey exhibition at the Detroit Historical Museum sounds so cool 🏒️, and it's awesome that they're showcasing other pro teams too. Plus, who doesn't love Christmas in downtown Detroit? 🎄 The tree lighting ceremony with all those talented performers is going to be epic 🎶! And can we talk about Mittens for Detroit? Bringing new gloves is such a small act of kindness that can make a big difference ❤️. I'm also stoked for the George Harrison screening at The Schvitz Health Club - his music is still so iconic 🎸, and supporting Thrive is awesome too! And lastly, Insane Clown Posse's Hallowicked show is gonna be a wild ride 😂... can't wait to see all these events come together!

I'm so stoked for Metro Detroit! 🎉 Did you know that Detroit has been ranked as the #1 city in the US for most affordable housing since 2019? 🏠 According to Zillow, the median home value is around $140k. That's like a steal compared to other major cities! 🤑

And have you seen the stats on Metro Detroit's population growth? 📈 It's been consistently increasing with over 100 new residents moving in every single day! 💥 The city is also investing heavily in its tech scene, with over $1 billion in investments made last year alone. That's like a huge boost to the local economy! 💸

I'm also loving that the Detroit Historical Museum is bringing hockey history to life. Did you know that the Red Wings have won 11 Stanley Cup championships? 🏆 The exhibition is going to be so cool, I can already imagine all the retro jerseys and equipment on display! 😎

Ugh, I'm so excited for these events in Metro Detroit! 🤩 First off, a hockey exhibition at the Detroit Historical Museum sounds like so much fun - I mean who doesn't love hockey, right? 😂 And I'm loving that they're featuring other pro hockey teams too. I've been to some of their games and it's always such an energy-filled atmosphere.

And can we talk about the Detroit Institute of Arts hosting Kathleen Wall's lecture on Indigenous art? It's so important for people to learn more about different cultures, especially our own indigenous communities. 🌎 It'll be great to hear Wall's perspective on growing up between two worlds and how it influenced her art.

I'm also stoked that Campus Martius Park is opening The Rink at Campus Martius Park - who doesn't love ice skating in the winter? ❄️ Plus, it's for a good cause, so you get to give back while having fun. That's what it's all about!

And lastly, I'm not really into George Harrison or Insane Clown Posse, but I know some people are super fans and that's cool! 😊 The Concert for Bangladesh film screening at The Schvitz Health Club sounds like a great event to support Thrive, especially since they're supporting meal programs in other countries too.

Anyway, it's going to be an awesome week in Metro Detroit, let's get out there and enjoy these events! 🎉

Just got my hands on some sick stats about metro Detroit events this week 🤯!

Did you know that hockey fans are expected to flock to the Detroit Historical Museum, with a projected attendance of over 50,000 people? That's crazy! 🚀 And it's not just the Red Wings' fans, either – pro hockey teams from other cities will also be represented. On the other hand, only around 2,500 people attended Kathleen Wall's Indigenous art lecture at the Detroit Institute of Arts last year... still a pretty small crowd for such an important topic 🤔.

If you're in downtown Detroit on Nov 20, expect a crowd of over 10,000 people for the Christmas tree lighting ceremony. BRELAND is performing, btw! And did I mention The Rink at Campus Martius Park will open its doors to the public? Free admission, but gloves for Mittens for Detroit are strongly encouraged 🎄.

Insane Clown Posse fans... well, they're always a force to be reckoned with 😂. Here's an interesting fact: their 2023 Hallowicked show at Masonic Temple drew in over 20,000 attendees! That's just crazy. And George Harrison fans are in luck – The Schvitz Health Club is screening his iconic Concert for Bangladesh film 🎥.

Here are some more fun facts to munch on:

* November is the busiest month for events in downtown Detroit
* Campus Martius Park will host over 20 skating events this winter
* Over 75% of attendees at last year's Hallowicked show came from within a 50-mile radius

I'm stoked that Detroit is getting this hype going with all these events 🎉💥. It's awesome that the Detroit Historical Museum is opening up a sick hockey exhibit - I mean, who doesn't love Wings history? 😄 But it's also cool to see some Indigenous representation at the DIA, especially since Kathleen Wall is sharing her story on how growing up between cultures shaped her art 🌎.

I'm not sure about the crowds at Campus Martius Park this weekend though... 🤔 I mean, The Rink opening sounds awesome and all, but it's gonna be crazy trying to get in with all those people. And if you're planning on going, don't forget your new gloves for Mittens for Detroit - that's some nice community spirit 👍.

And hey, who doesn't love a good holiday party? 🎄 The Christmas tree lighting ceremony is always so festive and fun. I'm not gonna lie though, it can get pretty crowded and commercialized... but I guess that's just part of the deal 🤷‍♀️.

I'm so over all these events in Detroit this week 🙄 I mean, can't we just chill for once? A hockey exhibition and a lecture about Indigenous art sounds like a total snooze-fest to me... who gets excited about old hockey jerseys or growing up between two cultures? And don't even get me started on the Christmas tree lighting ceremony – all that twinkling lights is just going to give me a headache. Can we please just have a chill, low-key holiday season for once?

I'm so down for this! 🤩 First off, let's talk about the hockey exhibition at the Detroit Historical Museum - can you imagine seeing those old Wings jerseys up close? I need to check that out ASAP! 😍 But seriously though, it's awesome that they're showcasing the history of hockey in Motor City and highlighting other teams too. It's a great way to connect people across different ages and communities.

And omg, Kathleen Wall's lecture at the Detroit Institute of Arts sounds so powerful! 🙏 I love how her art reflects on her experiences growing up between two cultures - it's like, so relevant in today's society. We need more Indigenous voices being heard!

But what I'm really stoked about is The Rink at Campus Martius Park opening for free and supporting Mittens for Detroit - that's what the holiday season is all about, right? ❤️ Let's keep the community spirit alive! 🎄
