"Snowy Conditions Ahead for Chicago Area as Winter Weather Advisory Takes Hold"
Residents of the Chicago area are bracing for a winter storm that is expected to dump several inches of snow on Sunday morning. The National Weather Service has issued a winter weather advisory, which will be in effect from midnight to 9am, warning of hazardous road conditions and reduced visibility.
The storm is expected to bring between 3-6 inches of snow to the area, with the highest amounts falling north of I-80. However, areas south of the interstate could also see a wintry mix, making travel conditions even more treacherous.
"We urge everyone to use caution when traveling," said weather officials. "The snow could cause hazardous road conditions, and we want to make sure everyone gets home safely."
To prepare for the storm, Chicago's Department of Streets and Sanitation is deploying over 220 snowplows onto the city's major arterial streets, DuSable Lake Shore Drive, and on bridges and underpasses.
Temperatures are expected to plummet overnight, with highs in the high teens on Sunday morning. However, by late Sunday afternoon, the temperature may rise into the upper 20s with mostly sunny skies.
As the storm clears, residents can expect temperatures to drop back into the teens by Sunday evening. The National Weather Service is warning of a narrow band of heavier snow expected to develop roughly around the I-88 corridor, with snowfall rates exceeding 1 inch per hour for several hours.
