World Cup final will be an afternoon match at MetLife Stadium, allowing prime-time viewing in Europe

FIFA has unveiled the schedule for the World Cup final, and it will be held at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey on July 19th at 3pm EDT. This means that fans in Europe can tune in during prime-time hours as the match is set to kick off at 9pm local time.

According to AccuWeather, the average temperature on July 19th over the past 30 years in East Rutherford is around 83 degrees Celsius with a RealFeel index of 89. However, this does not necessarily mean that it will be this warm for the final match.

Interestingly, nine out of ten World Cup finals from 1978 to 2014 kicked off between 2pm and 3:30pm EDT. The exception was the 2002 Japan final, which started at 7am local time. In contrast, the 2018 final began at 11am EDT, while the 2022 championship took place in Qatar during winter with a start time of 10am EST.

The World Cup final is expected to be an afternoon match due to logistical considerations and broadcast schedules. FIFA's chief tournament officer Manolo Zubiria noted that they aimed to "strike the right balance" between team preparation, recovery, and exposure to the world.

Other groups will have different start times, with some kickoffs as early as 1pm local time in Mexico City. Semifinals and quarterfinals matches are also set for various start times across multiple venues.

The World Cup final is part of a larger tournament schedule that includes 78 games in the United States, 13 games each in Canada and Mexico, and 14 group stage matches not yet finalized with Friday's draw.

omg u guys FIFA just dropped the schedule for the world cup final 🀯 its gonna be held at metlife stadium in jersey on july 19th @ 3pm edt thats so lit! but i wonder wut the temp will b like btw accuweather says its gonna be totes hot tho πŸ˜… avg temp in east rutherford is like 83 degrees celsius w a realfeel index of 89 lol what if its not even that hot tho?! FIFA's all about gettin that balance right between team prep, recovery & exposure tho πŸ‘

idk why they gotta have it at 3pm edt tho πŸ€”... wont be fun for europeans who got plans lol! also wut about the heat tho? its gonna be like 89 realfeel or whatever idk how ppl r gonna handle that πŸ’€πŸŒ‘οΈ might be better to start later, dont wanna risk heat stroke mid match πŸ˜‚

Ugh, can't they just pick one time zone for the whole thing? I mean, I get it, some fans in Europe might want to watch during prime-time, but what about everyone else? It's always some compromise like this... πŸ€¦β€β™‚οΈ MetLife Stadium in NJ at 3pm EDT is gonna be a nightmare for people on West Coast! And 9pm local time for Europe? That's not even sunset yet! πŸ˜’ Not to mention the heat index, who knows what it'll actually feel like. I'm not saying they should choose a crazy early or late time slot, but some consistency would be nice... πŸ€·β€β™‚οΈ

I'm thinking it's kinda weird that the World Cup final has to be an afternoon match, especially for fans in Europe who are used to watching sports during prime-time hours πŸ€”. I mean, why can't they just kick off at a decent hour like everyone else? It's not like it's gonna make or break the experience or anything. And what's with the RealFeel index, anyway? 89 degrees Celsius? That sounds way too hot for me! β˜€οΈ

I don’t usually comment but I think it’s kinda weird that they’re having the World Cup final during a super hot summer afternoon in New Jersey πŸ€”. Nine out of ten finals started between 2-3:30pm EDT, but that was before climate change and all that stuff πŸ˜…. Now, we gotta worry about heat exhaustion and sunburn while watching the game? That sounds like a recipe for disaster! Not to mention the poor teams playing in those scorching temperatures... I don’t know if they could even keep a straight face during the national anthem 🀣.

idk about this new info... on one hand, I'm hyped for the World Cup final being held in NJ - it's a major milestone for American sports! but on the other hand, 83 degrees Celsius? that's crazy hot! can u imagine playing soccer in that heat? 😩 plus, what's up with the prime-time start time in Europe? shouldnt we be worried about burnout or something? πŸ€·β€β™‚οΈ at least it's gonna be an afternoon match here, right? πŸ•°οΈ

ugh I'm gonna be stuck at work while the World Cup final is on πŸ€―πŸ‘€ i mean I know it's the most exciting time of the year but can't they move the final to a weekend when ppl actually wanna watch it? and 3pm EDT is so early for those in europe lol wouldn't that be crazy? heatwave alert tho 83 degrees celsius is pretty hot πŸ€·β€β™€οΈ at least it's gonna be a good excuse for some aircon shopping later

omg this world cup final at metlife stadium sounds like it's gonna be lit!!! 🀩 i'm actually kinda excited to watch a match during prime time, but also kinda nervous that it's gonna be super hot, anyone got some tips on how to stay cool? πŸ˜… anyway, i love how fifa is trying to balance team prep with exposure for the world, that makes sense i guess. what do u think about the start times tho? πŸ€”

Umm, can you believe it's gonna be so hot at the World Cup final? I mean, 83 degrees Celsius is insane! 🀯 They should make sure everyone has plenty of water on hand, 'cause that RealFeel index of 89 is gonna feel like a sauna! πŸ˜“ Anyway, I guess it's good they're giving fans in Europe some decent prime-time TV. Still, I'm a bit sad they can't play the final at night... would've been way more exciting πŸŽ‰!

πŸ€” The decision to have the World Cup final at MetLife Stadium on July 19th is gonna be a real challenge for fans across the globe... I mean, who needs sleep when you've got a high-stakes soccer match to watch? 😴 On a more serious note, having the match kick off in prime-time hours in Europe could lead to some pretty intense viewing experiences. And with the heat index being around 89 degrees Celsius, it's gonna be an interesting test for both the players and the broadcast crew! ⚽️ What do you guys think? Should they just move the whole tournament to a more climate-controlled venue or what? πŸ€·β€β™‚οΈ

πŸ€” I'm not sure about this... an afternoon match in July sounds like it could be kinda boring 😴 especially for European fans who are used to watching stuff at night πŸ“Ί. I mean, what if the team is just not feeling themselves after a morning kick-off? Wouldn't they be more focused and energized in the evening? πŸ€·β€β™‚οΈ I guess FIFA knows their stuff when it comes to logistics and all that, but can we get some variety with the times? 😐

idk why they gotta hold it on a weekday afternoon πŸ€”. people got work and other plans πŸ“…. it's gonna be hella hot in jersey too, like over 80 degrees Celsius 🌑️. can't imagine being stuck in that heat for 90 minutes of soccer ⚽️. and yeah, the timing is super convenient for us east coast folks, but what about europeans who got other plans? πŸ˜’

OMG yaaassss 🀩 the World Cup final is gonna be so exciting!! I love how FIFA has planned the schedule to make sure everything runs smoothly for the teams πŸ™Œ MetLife Stadium in NJ is gonna be electric πŸ’₯ and 3pm EDT is perfect timing, not too early or too late 😊. Can't wait to see all the matches and cheer on my fave team πŸŽ‰

idk how they came up with 3 pm edt for the world cup final tho πŸ€” it seems pretty early to be watchin a match like that especially if ur in europe lol i mean i guess its better than 7 am local time like japan did in 2002 though πŸ˜… anyway im just glad ill get to see it on tv and not have to travel all the way from nj

Ugh, I'm getting old for this World Cup thing πŸ€¦β€β™‚οΈ... I mean, it's cool that they're having it at MetLife Stadium, but can't we just have a morning match like back in the day? 😴 I remember watching the 1978 final with my dad, and it was so much more exciting when it started during prime-time. Now it feels like they're trying to fit everyone into this weird afternoon slot πŸ•°οΈ... and what's up with all these different start times across Europe, Mexico City, and everywhere else? It's just gonna be confusing for the fans 🀯. And don't even get me started on the heat in New Jersey 🌑️... 83 degrees Celsius? That sounds like a hot mess πŸ”₯! Still, I guess it'll be a great event to have here in the States πŸ‡ΊπŸ‡Έ.

πŸ† The timing of the World Cup final at MetLife Stadium is raising eyebrows! I mean, have you considered the logistical implications? FIFA's decision to schedule it for afternoon hours might be a clever move to boost TV ratings, but what about our East Coast friends who have to work the next day? πŸ€” Don't they deserve a later kickoff? It's like they're trying to turn the World Cup into a late-night NFL game πŸˆπŸ˜’. And let's not forget, we're talking about a global tournament here – shouldn't the final match be more...global? 🌎πŸ‘₯ I'd love to see some changes made to accommodate different time zones and fan preferences 😊.

I'm still not convinced about this World Cup thing... I mean, have you seen the venue? MetLife Stadium in New Jersey? That's like playing a football match in the middle of nowhere! And what's with the late afternoon kickoff? Can't they see how grueling it is on the players' bodies to play at 3 pm? Not to mention the heat index, I'm pretty sure that's gonna be sweltering. And don't even get me started on the broadcast schedules... I mean, what about fans who can't make it to the stadium? πŸ€―πŸ’Έ

🌟 I'm loving how FIFA is trying to balance team prep time with broadcast schedules for the World Cup final! Starting at 3pm EDT does make sense since it'll be prime-time for European fans πŸ“Ί. And, who knows, maybe Mother Nature will surprise us and it's not as hot as expected πŸ˜…. But seriously, gotta respect FIFA's planning, especially considering all those games and tournaments happening in the US, Canada, Mexico... it's gonna be a wild ride! ⚽️

OMG what a massive undertaking! FIFA is doing an epic job organizing this whole thing 🀯 78 games across the US, Canada, and Mexico? That's crazy talk! And can you believe they're having the final match at MetLife Stadium in NJ? I mean, it's gonna be so hot on that day 😩 83 degrees Celsius is just insane! But hey, who needs aircon when you've got soccer, right? 🏟️ Anyway, curious about why they chose a specific start time... seems like a good call considering all the groups will have different kickoffs... wonder what it'll be like watching from Europe πŸ˜•
