Zelenskyy's top aide quits after anti-corruption searches of his home

Ukraine's President Zelenskyy has announced the sudden resignation of his powerful Chief of Staff Andriy Yermak amid an ongoing corruption investigation at his home. The announcement came after investigators from Ukraine's anti-corruption agencies conducted searches at Yermak's apartment earlier in the day.

Yermak, who was leading the latest round of peace negotiations with the US, had been a key figure in Zelenskyy's administration since 2020. However, his role as gatekeeper to the president came under scrutiny after allegations emerged of a high-level corruption scheme involving Energoatom, Ukraine's state-owned nuclear power generator.

According to investigators from Nabu, the national anti-corruption bureau, and Sapo, the specialised anti-corruption prosecutor's office, those close to Zelenskyy allegedly received kickbacks of 10%-15% from commercial partners. The investigation claims that Timur Mindich, an old friend and business partner of the Ukrainian president, was involved in setting up the scheme.

Zelenskyy himself has denounced the allegations, stating that he is "grateful to Andriy for always representing Ukraine's position exactly as it should be." However, his decision not to fire Yermak amid these findings sparked widespread outrage, particularly at a time when Ukrainians are facing daily electricity blackouts due to Russian bombing of energy infrastructure.

The investigation has been ongoing since November and has uncovered over 1,000 hours of secretly recorded conversations. The European Commission has expressed respect for the investigations, saying that Ukraine's anti-corruption bodies are functioning effectively.

Yermak had confirmed earlier in the day that searches were continuing at his home, stating that investigators had "full access" to the apartment and that he was cooperating fully with law enforcement officers.

omg u no what's even crazier than corruption scandals? have u tried those new truffle fries at pizza hut ๐Ÿ•๐Ÿ‘€ i mean i know they're not as good as getting them from a real italian place but they're pretty close lol also did u hear that netflix is dropping a new season of the office ๐Ÿ˜‚ anyway back to ukraine... i feel bad for zelenskyy though, being stuck between a rock and a hard place what's ur take on corruption scandals? should ppl be held accountable or just let it slide ๐Ÿค”

just think about it, korrupt ppl on power gotta go ๐Ÿ’”๐Ÿ˜ฌ sooner or later ukraine's got 2 deal w/ reality n maybe its time 4 new blood in zelenskyy's crew ๐Ÿ‘ฅ meanwhile, us has 2 keep an eye on things over there ๐Ÿ•ต๏ธโ€โ™€๏ธ n hope they get their act together

๐Ÿคฆโ€โ™‚๏ธ just when you think things can't get any worse for Ukraine... their president's chief of staff is outta there after getting caught up in a corruption scandal ๐Ÿค‘ 10-15% kickbacks from commercial partners? sounds like a sweet deal, but I guess not so much when the law catches up ๐Ÿ’ผ and it turns out he was setting up this scheme with some "old friend" and business partner of the president ๐Ÿค Mindich's name is all over this too... what a mess ๐Ÿ˜ฌ

๐Ÿคฏ just when you think ukraine is making progress with peace talks, this new info about andriy yermak's resignation comes out... i'm not surprised though, corruption has been a huge issue in ukraine since forever ๐Ÿšซ. 10-15% kickbacks to whoever is close to zelenskyy is crazy! ๐Ÿ’ธ how can u trust someone who is supposed to represent the country when they're allegedly getting paid off by friends of the president? ๐Ÿ˜• this just shows ukraine needs more accountability and transparency. ๐Ÿ“Š the fact that investigators had access to yermak's apartment and secretly recorded conversations is super suspicious tho ๐Ÿค”

๐Ÿคฏ OMG, you guys! I'm telling you, this whole situation with Yermak is a total mess ๐Ÿšฎ๐Ÿ’ธ. Like, Zelenskyy's trying to distance himself from it, but it's too late. The investigation is like, already done for weeks and they've got all the evidence they need ๐Ÿ”. And now Yermak just quits? ๐Ÿคทโ€โ™‚๏ธ Like, what's next? He's going to sue Zelenskyy for everything he's got ๐Ÿ’ธ?

And can we talk about how convenient it is that this whole thing comes out when Ukrainians are struggling with daily blackouts? It's like the universe is just piling on ๐ŸŒช๏ธ. I mean, I get it, corruption's a big deal and all, but shouldn't Zelenskyy be holding his own people accountable? ๐Ÿค”

But for real tho, this whole thing raises some major red flags ๐Ÿ”‘. I'm not saying Yermak did anything wrong (yet ๐Ÿ˜œ), but you've got to wonder who else might be involved and what other skeletons are hiding in the closet ๐Ÿ’€. Stay tuned, folks ๐Ÿ‘€.

๐Ÿ™„ Can't believe Andriy Yermak is getting off scot-free ๐Ÿคทโ€โ™‚๏ธ just because Zelenskyy says he's grateful for his services ๐Ÿ’โ€โ™‚๏ธ. I mean, come on, 10-15% kickbacks? That's not "representing Ukraine's position" that's more like " lining own pockets" ๐Ÿ˜. And what really gets me is that the whole investigation has been going on since November and still no big reaction from Zelenskyy ๐Ÿค”. Guess it's easier to let friends help themselves than deal with reality ๐Ÿ’ธ. Anyway, I guess we'll just have to wait and see if this case actually goes to trial ๐Ÿ”... probably not though ๐Ÿ˜ด.

I'm kinda shocked by this news ๐Ÿคฏ. I mean, Yermak was a close ally of Zelenskyy for years, and it's crazy that he got caught up in this corruption scheme. It's like, what were they thinking? ๐Ÿ˜‚ And now that the investigation is done and dusts off, you'd think Zelenskyy would take some responsibility for his team's actions... but nope! He's just dodging the issue ๐Ÿ™…โ€โ™‚๏ธ. It's kinda sad that a guy like Timur Mindich, who's connected to the president, gets away with allegedly setting up this scheme... doesn't feel right ๐Ÿ‘Ž

๐Ÿค” The whole situation is super weird ๐Ÿ™ƒ. I mean, Andriy Yermak was basically Zelenskyy's right-hand man since 2020, but now he's just suddenly out of a job? It's like, what's going on here? ๐Ÿ˜’ The corruption investigation might be the obvious reason, but I'm not sure it's that simple ๐Ÿคทโ€โ™€๏ธ. On one hand, it's great that Ukraine has anti-corruption agencies doing their thing ๐Ÿ’ช. But on the other hand, Yermak was a key player in peace negotiations with the US and now he's out? It's like, who's really behind this? ๐Ÿ•ต๏ธโ€โ™‚๏ธ And what about Timur Mindich? That guy sounds super shady ๐Ÿค‘. I mean, if Zelenskyy is saying that Yermak was always representing Ukraine's position well, then why did he not fire him when the allegations came up? It just doesn't add up ๐Ÿคฏ. Anyway, this whole thing is definitely going to raise some eyebrows ๐Ÿ’ฅ.

Ukraine is still struggling with corruption issues ๐Ÿค•๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ฆ I feel so bad for President Zelenskyy, he's already dealing with so much pressure from Russia, and now this? It's like, can't anyone just be honest around him? ๐Ÿ˜ฉ Andriy Yermak was such a key figure in his admin since 2020, it's crazy how quickly things can turn sour. The fact that investigators found out about a huge corruption scheme involving Energoatom is mind-blowing ๐Ÿคฏ. I mean, who does that?! 10-15% kickbacks? That's not just shady, it's downright crooked ๐Ÿค‘. I'm glad the European Commission is supporting Ukraine's anti-corruption efforts tho ๐Ÿ‘, maybe this will be a turning point for them to really tackle corruption once and for all ๐Ÿ’ช.

๐Ÿ˜• I'm shocked by Andriy Yermak's sudden resignation... not just because of the corruption allegations, but also because it feels like a huge distraction from the war in Ukraine ๐ŸŒช๏ธ. I mean, we're still dealing with daily electricity blackouts and shortages, and now our president is letting go of his top advisor without even firing him? It doesn't add up to me ๐Ÿค”.

And what really gets my goat is that Zelenskyy himself is distancing himself from Yermak's corruption... but not taking any action against it. I get that investigations can take time, but shouldn't our leaders be held accountable for their actions? ๐Ÿ™„ It just feels like more cover-up than transparency to me ๐Ÿ˜’.

And what about all the people who've been affected by Yermak's alleged corruption scheme? Shouldn't they be getting some sort of justice or compensation? ๐Ÿ’ธ It's not just about Andriy Yermak anymore... it's about accountability and doing what's right for the country ๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ฆ.

๐Ÿค” I find it quite interesting how Zelenskyy's administration is dealing with this alleged corruption scandal. On one hand, Yermak's resignation seems like a necessary step to address the public's trust issues. However, his decision not to fire Yermak despite the mounting evidence has left many Ukrainians feeling frustrated and disillusioned. The fact that the European Commission has expressed its support for Ukraine's anti-corruption efforts is reassuring, but it raises questions about the effectiveness of Zelenskyy's leadership in addressing these issues. ๐Ÿ” It's also worth noting how this scandal coincides with a time of great need for Ukrainians, facing daily electricity blackouts due to Russian aggression. This highlights the challenges that Ukraine faces in maintaining stability and good governance amidst external pressures. ๐ŸŒŽ

๐Ÿ˜’ this whole situation is just another example of how corrupt things can get in Ukraine's government... i mean, you're basically saying one thing (peace talks, etc) but then you've got your buddy Timur Mindich making kickbacks to the president's inner circle? ๐Ÿค‘ and let's not forget Andriy Yermak was the gatekeeper to Zelenskyy's administration... how convenient is it that he just happens to have a personal connection with the guy accused of corruption? ๐Ÿคทโ€โ™‚๏ธ anyway, i'm glad the European Commission is backing Ukraine's anti-corruption efforts but at what cost? ๐Ÿ’ธ it's not like this is going to bring down Zelenskyy or anything... ๐Ÿ™„

๐Ÿ˜ฌ I'm kinda surprised by this news... Andriy Yermak was a super key figure in Zelenskyy's team ๐Ÿค but if there are serious allegations of corruption, you'd think Zelenskyy would've acted faster ๐Ÿ’” especially when it comes to something as big as the energy situation in Ukraine right now โšก๏ธ I mean, those kickbacks could be huge and it's not cool that people close to him were getting paid off ๐Ÿค‘. But on the other hand, if there's even a whisper of corruption, you gotta take it seriously ๐Ÿ˜ฌ. The fact that Zelenskyy is defending Yermak kinda raises some eyebrows ๐Ÿค” but at least Ukraine's anti-corruption bodies are doing their job ๐Ÿ’ช. Fingers crossed this investigation gets to the bottom of things and if not, we'll definitely be hearing more about it ๐Ÿ’ฅ

The sudden resignation of Andriy Yermak is a rather intriguing development ๐Ÿค”. While it's understandable that President Zelenskyy would want to distance himself from any controversy, one can't help but wonder if this move might be more than just a strategic maneuver to avoid scandal ๐Ÿ˜. The fact that allegations of high-level corruption involving Energoatom and Timur Mindich's involvement have been circulating for months suggests that Yermak's role as gatekeeper may not have been entirely untainted ๐Ÿšจ.

Furthermore, the timing of his resignation seems particularly calculated, given the ongoing energy crisis in Ukraine and the widespread outrage over Yermak's perceived wrongdoing ๐Ÿ˜ฉ. It's almost as if Zelenskyy is attempting to present himself as a champion of anti-corruption efforts while quietly removing a key figure from power ๐Ÿ’ผ.

It'll be interesting to see how this situation unfolds, particularly with regards to the extent of Mindich's involvement and whether Zelenskyy will face any consequences for his own alleged ties to Yermak ๐Ÿคทโ€โ™‚๏ธ.

OMG, this is a major bombshell ๐Ÿคฏ! I mean, Andriy Yermak was basically Zelenskyy's right-hand man, but it looks like corruption allegations were getting out of control ๐Ÿ’ธ๐Ÿšซ. 10%-15% kickbacks to who? That's some serious juju ๐Ÿ”ฅ. I'm still trying to wrap my head around the fact that Zelenskyy didn't take action sooner ๐Ÿค”. It's not like Ukraine is facing any other major issues, with all these daily electricity blackouts and Russian bombing ๐ŸŒช๏ธ๐Ÿ’ฃ...and now this? #UkraineCorruption #ZelenskyyResignation #YermakGate

I'm shocked, not surprised tbh ๐Ÿคฏ. Corruption is a huge issue in Ukraine, everyone knows it's been there since forever. I mean, how many times have we seen officials getting cozy with big business only to be accused of graft? It's like they think they're above the law or something ๐Ÿ˜’. Zelenskyy saying Yermak represented Ukraine's interests is just laughable, if you ask me. And what really gets my goat is that he didn't take action when he had the chance to clean house. Now it's too late and everyone's paying the price ๐Ÿค‘. And let's not forget the timing - we're in the middle of a energy crisis here, people are struggling with daily blackouts and this guy is getting a free pass? It just doesn't add up ๐Ÿค”.

๐Ÿค” this is wild - Zelenskyy's closest advisor just got accused of corruption and he's still holding on to him... 10-15% kickbacks from a state-owned energy company? that's some serious shady stuff ๐Ÿค‘. I get why the Europeans are giving Ukraine a pass for now, but isn't it time someone held the big guy in power accountable too? ๐Ÿคทโ€โ™‚๏ธ And what about those daily electricity blackouts - does this corruption thing have anything to do with that at all? ๐Ÿ’ก
