ABC13 Weather Alert: Ice and Winter Storm Warnings issued for Houston and most of Southeast Texas

Winter Storm Brings Freezing Rain, Extreme Cold to Southeast Texas.

A powerful winter storm is sweeping through Texas, bringing freezing rain, sleet, and snow to most of the state. The National Weather Service has issued Ice and Winter Storm Warnings for numerous counties in Southeast Texas, including Polk, San Jacinto, Trinity, Walker, and Harris counties.

Residents are bracing for a potentially disastrous weekend as temperatures plummet and icy conditions develop. By Saturday morning, a blanket of freezing rain could cover the region, leading to hazardous travel conditions, power outages, and tree damage.

The storm is expected to bring up to half an inch of ice in some areas, with widespread freezing rain blowing down to the Gulf Coast. An arctic airmass will move into the region on Saturday night, leading to temperatures plummeting into the 20s and potentially dipping below zero by Monday morning.

The National Weather Service has issued an Extreme Cold Warning for all of Southeast Texas during this timeframe, citing wind chill factors that could drop into single digits and teens. Residents are advised to take precautions to protect pipes from freezing and to stay indoors whenever possible.

While some areas may see brief snow showers on Friday night and Saturday morning, the primary threat is freezing rain and sleet in Southeast Texas. Temperatures will gradually warm by Monday, but another hard freeze is expected on Tuesday morning.

As the storm system moves out of the region, residents are advised to stay vigilant for further cold snaps and icy conditions. The latest forecast suggests that the worst of the weather may be behind us by Wednesday or Thursday, depending on the track of the next arctic front.

Residents can check the latest forecast and alerts on the ABC13 Weather website or mobile app, which provides up-to-date information on the storm's progression and expected impacts.

"Life is 10% what happens to you and 90% how you react to it." ❄️☃️ I think people in Southeast Texas are going to have a really tough weekend with this winter storm. Freezing rain, sleet, and snow are all super hazardous, especially for pipes and trees. It's so important that everyone stays safe and indoors as much as possible. And let's be real, it's not just about the weather – it's also about taking care of ourselves during these kind of events.

🤔 I'm so worried about people out there in Southeast Texas, especially the elderly and young kids who don't know how to handle this kind of weather 😬. They need to stay indoors with their heaters on and keep an eye on their pipes or they might burst and cause a huge mess 🚧. And can you believe it's going to be that cold? I feel bad for anyone who has to go out in that 😓. Maybe we should all send some food and water bundles to those in need, just in case someone loses power 💕. Stay safe, everyone! ❄️

omg u guys!! its gonna b a crazy wknd in southeast texas!! i just no how ppl r gonna deal w/ freezing rain & snow 🌨️❄️!!! and dont even get me started on those temps dropping below 0 🤕💀! i hope every1 has a plan to stay safe & warm 💡🔥. btw, i cnt believe theyre warnin us about pipes freezin too 🚧😱. lets all just take it one day at a time & try not 2 freak out 😅🙏.

Ugh, I hate driving in the rain like this 🌨️😬. It's so slippery and you never know when you're gonna lose control of your car. Freezing temps are no joke too... my pipes at home always freeze up during bad winters 🚽👎. Hope everyone has some warm soup or hot cocoa ready to go when the power goes out, that'd be a lifesaver ☕️!

Ugh, I was supposed to get my pipes checked last week but I totally spaced out lol. Anyone have any tips on how to prevent pipes from freezing? I don't want to deal with this mess while I'm trying to relax at home

Ugh man, this winter storm is gonna be a mess 🌨️💔. I'm so over living in Texas in the winter, it's like we're not even prepared for this kind of thing 🤦‍♂️. Freezing rain and sleet? That sounds like a recipe for disaster ❄️. And don't even get me started on the power outages...I mean, I know it's not like we can avoid 'em but still, it's just so frustrating 😩. Anyone got a good plan for keeping pipes from freezing? Asking for a friend 🤔.

omg this winter storm is gonna be a big deal! i was planning to head out to visit my friends in houston but now idk if its safe 🤕🚨. 20s and below zero? thats crazy cold! i hope everyone takes precautions to stay safe and warm 💡😊

Ugh, just what I needed to make this winter more interesting... a whole lot of ice and snow in Texas 🤦‍♂️. Like we didn't have enough to deal with already, now we get to experience freezing rain and sleet? Can't even step outside without worrying about slipping on the sidewalk or getting electrocuted from a frozen pipe 💧😓. And don't even get me started on the temperatures plummeting into the 20s... like I'm gonna start wearing a parka in the middle of January 🤣. Anyone else ready to trade in their flip flops for some actual snow boots? 😂

Ugh, I'm so over this crazy weather 🌨️😓. A winter storm is going to hit Southeast Texas and it's looking pretty nasty. Freezing rain and sleet are no joke - our roads are gonna be a mess for days. And don't even get me started on the pipes... I hope everyone has a plan in place to protect their homes from freezing. It's also not ideal that we're gonna have to deal with another cold snap soon after this one passes 🤯. On the bright side, at least it's a good excuse to stay indoors and binge-watch some Netflix 😉. But seriously, let's all just take it easy for the next few days and check on our neighbors who might be struggling with the weather ⚠️.

I'm low-key excited about this winter storm 🤷‍♂️... like, who doesn't love a good excuse to stay indoors with hot chocolate? I mean, freezing rain and sleet are basically just ice skating rinks in your front yard 😂. And the temperatures dropping into the 20s? That's just perfect for a cold winter day movie marathon 🍿. Plus, think of all the pipes that won't freeze because people are staying indoors 🚧. It's like Mother Nature is giving us all a free break from shoveling snow ❄️. Bring on the arctic front! 💨

.. been thinking about this winter storm in Texas 🤔... reminds me that Mother Nature is a harsh teacher - she'll teach you if you don't prepare 😅. For us city folks, it's easy to take these kinds of situations for granted, but out there in Southeast Texas, people are literally freezing their pipes off 💧. That's what happens when you underestimate the power of nature. So yeah, stay safe and bundled up - we all need to be like the trees, flexible & strong 🌳💪.

Ugh I'm so over these winter storms already 😩. Can't we just have a mild season for once? 🤦‍♂️ As much as I hate to say it, I think the power grid in Texas is gonna take a beating from this one. We're talkin' extended outages and whatnot... it's like, hello winter! Can you please bring some actual snow or something instead of just freezing rain? 🤷‍♂️ At least that'd be kinda fun to deal with. But nope, we get the boring old ice and sleet situation. And don't even get me started on the pipes... I've seen people in my neighborhood already start checking their faucets and whatnot like they're just waiting for the inevitable 🙄. Seriously though, can we just enjoy some mild weather for once? 🌞

omg, guys, southeast texas is like totally getting slammed with this winter storm 🌨️! freezing rain, sleet, snow... what even is that?! 😂 seriously though, residents gotta be so careful out there, pipes can freeze and power lines can pop... stay indoors as much as u can, and make sure u have a backup plan for food and water in case the bad weather knocks out the grid 🚨. btw, anyone got any tips on how to protect those plants from freezing temps? 🌿💔

🌨️ Oh man, I'm so glad I'm not in Southeast Texas right now! Freezing rain, sleet, and snow are no joke 🤯. I remember a similar storm hitting our area back in '99, and it was a nightmare trying to get around without decent roads. Power outages and tree damage were the worst part for me... lucky we had some good backup generators at home 🏠.

I do wish people would take these warnings seriously though... not everyone has access to heat sources or warm places to go. The idea of pipes freezing and bursting is just terrifying 💧. It's going to be a rough weekend ahead, so let's all hope the storm passes quickly for everyone involved ❤️.

I'm low-key worried about these folks in Southeast Texas 🤕. Freezing rain is no joke, especially when it comes to pipes and stuff. I hope everyone has those winter kits ready, you know, just in case their water supply freezes 😬. It's gonna be a rough couple of days, but fingers crossed the storm passes quickly and we don't see too much damage. Has anyone else got any plans for this weekend that might get disrupted by the weather? 🤔

🌨️ this is gonna be a long weekend in southeast texas... people need to take winter storm warnings seriously, freezing rain & sleet can be super treacherous 🚗😬 also, why do we still have power outages as infrastructure shouldn't be that outdated by now 💡💸

I'm shivering just thinking about this winter storm hitting Southeast Texas 🥶❄️. I feel like I'm in a movie from "Frozen" with Elsa as my neighbor... you know, the one where everything gets icy and snowy? 😂 Anyway, it's not funny when people have to deal with freezing temperatures and power outages. I hope everyone is preparing for this storm and staying safe at home. The idea of half an inch of ice covering the region sounds like a real-life "Game of Thrones" battle scene 🏰💥! And who knows, maybe we'll even get some snowflakes, just like in that movie where they all fall gently from the sky... but let's be real, I'm more of a "I-need-my-coffee-and-warm-things" kind of person during this time ☕🧥.
