‘Adolescence’ Writer Jack Thorne and ‘The House of the Spirits’ Directors Lined Up for Berlinale Series Market Conference Strand

Berlinale Series Market to Showcase 'Adolescence' and 'The House of the Spirits'

The Berlinale Series Market has announced its lineup for this year's conference, featuring a star-studded session with writer Jack Thorne, co-writer of Netflix smash "Adolescence", alongside directors from the acclaimed adaptation of Isabel Allende's novel, "The House of the Spirits".

Thorne will take part in an In Conversation With Jack Thorne session, where he'll share his storytelling process and reflect on his career evolution. The Berlinale Series Market has stated that Thorne's recent adaptation of "Lord of the Flies" bears similarities to "Adolescence", a nod to the latter's narrative style.

The conference program also includes a fireside chat with Rowan Woods, Berlinale Series Advisor, who will interview Thorne on his experiences and upcoming projects. EFM Industry Programme has partnered with the event to host this session.

A panel discussion with Chilean showrunners Francisca Alegría, Fernanda Urrejola, and Andrés Wood will focus on adapting the beloved classic novel into an eight-episode series for global audiences. They'll delve into shaping magical realism, collaborating creatively, and exploring how to bring Isabel Allende's timeless story to a wider audience.

The conference also highlights 'House of Yang', a Berlinale Special Series that interweaves identity and mystery. The creators, Stafanie Ren, Mia Spengler, Katharina Dufner, and Arto Sebastian will break down the show's origins and creative vision.

Three panels make up the conference program: Disruption, Equality and Revolution, which examines whether originals can truly challenge the sector's dependence on established IPs. Risk-Taking and Disruption: IPs and Originals gathers industry leaders to explore this topic further. Changing the Narrative: Gender Balance in the Industry focuses on concrete solutions for achieving parity.

Finally, Rebel Rebel: Series Battling Status Quo explores how series creators and producers craft anti-establishment narratives that deliver compelling drama without glamorizing rebellion. The media partner of the Berlinale Series Market is Variety.

omg i'm so hyped for this year's berlinale series market 🤩 it seems like there are some amazing projects lined up, especially 'adolescence' & 'the house of spirits'. i love how thorne will be sharing his storytelling process & experiences - gotta be fascinating! 🔍 and can't wait to see those panel discussions about adapting magical realism & shaping identity in tv shows 📺💡

I gotta say, I'm not surprised they're putting so much emphasis on 'Adolescence' - it's been a game-changer for Netflix 🤯. And with Jack Thorne involved, you know it's gonna be good. But have you guys noticed how 'House of the Spirits' is getting its own special treatment? It's like, hello, it's an 8-episode series now! And let's not forget about the panel discussion on adapting magical realism - I'm all for pushing those boundaries 📚.

I do wonder if they'll be tackling the representation aspect though. We've got a whole new generation of creators who are killing it with diverse casts and storytelling, but there's still so much work to be done 💁‍♀️. Anyway, can't wait to see what 'House of Yang' is all about - identity and mystery, huh? Sounds like an interesting combo 🔮.

And the three panels sound super informative: Disruption, Equality and Revolution, Risk-Taking and Disruption, and Changing the Narrative: Gender Balance in the Industry... sounds like they're trying to shake things up 💥. Not sure if it'll work, but I'm all for giving it a shot 👍

omg u guyz i cant even lol so many awesome shows coming out this yr!!! 'Adolescence' on netflix sounds SOOO good i need to binge it ASAP and also 'The House of the Spirits' adaptation cant wait to see how they do Isabel Allende's classic novel justice 🤩📚 i mean its cool that jack thorne is talking about his process n all that... maybe he can spill some tea on why his version of "Lord of the Flies" is similar to 'Adolescence' lol. btw, who else is hyped for these new shows??? 🎉

🤔 I'm so excited to see more representation from Latin America at this year's Berlinale Series Market! 'Adolescence' and 'The House of Spirits' both have such powerful stories to tell, and it's amazing that we're finally seeing them get the attention they deserve.

I think what really caught my eye was the fireside chat with Jack Thorne. As a parent, I've seen firsthand how complex and nuanced teenagers can be, and I love that he's speaking about his own experiences and processes as a writer. It's so refreshing to see creators acknowledging their mistakes and learning from them! 💡

Also, I'm really intrigued by the panel discussion with the Chilean showrunners - adapting magical realism for global audiences is a topic so close to my heart (I've struggled to get my kid to read Isabel Allende as an adult, haha). It'll be fascinating to see how they tackle this challenge and bring the story to life for a wider audience. 📚

I'm really excited to see what's coming out of the Berlinale Series Market this year 🤩! It's amazing that they're focusing on adapting classic novels like "The House of the Spirits" into TV series - I think it's a great way to bring literature to life in a new and fresh way. Isabel Allende's writing is so captivating, and I love how they're exploring ways to make her magical realism work in an eight-episode format. 📚💫

And I'm intrigued by the panel discussions on adapting "Adolescence" and other IPs - it'll be interesting to see how industry leaders tackle the challenge of creating original content that truly challenges the sector's reliance on established formulas. 💡👍

I just think its cool how they're bringin 'House of the Spirits' to the screen again 🤔, like, Isabel Allende's novel has been a fave for so long and now its gonna be on Netflix too. And I guess its kinda interesting that its similar to 'Adolescence', but at the same time, they're tryin to adapt it in their own way.

I think what Im takin away from this is that storytelling is all about evolution, you know? Writers like Jack Thorne are always lookin for ways to improve and grow, just like how creators of shows are tryin to push boundaries. And when we take lessons from other people's experiences, it can help us become better versions of ourselves too 🙏.

The thing that gets me though is that its all about collaboration and teamwork. Showrunners like Alegría, Urrejola, and Wood are workin together to bring this story to life, and thats what makes it so excitin' 🌟.

idk why we need so many panels 🤔. i mean, isnt it just one thing: making a good show? and also, whats with all these adaptations of books?? cant they just make something new for once? 📚👀. but hey, i guess its cool that theres a session about magical realism 🧙‍♀️. i love how they mentioned lord of the flies in relation to adolescents tho, didnt think of that connection 🤔. and whats up with the fireside chat 🍺? is it just gonna be small talk or whats the real tea? 🍵

The world of television production... 📺 it's a never-ending reflection on human storytelling, right? I mean, think about it - we're living in an era where our lives are being represented on screens around the globe. And now, with these big-name adaptations and original series, it's like we're witnessing the evolution of humanity itself. The themes of "Adolescence" and "The House of Spirits" resonate so deeply because they touch upon our collective experiences of identity, growth, and belonging.

And what does this say about us as a society? That we're hungry for stories that reflect our complexities, our struggles, and our triumphs. We crave authenticity, vulnerability, and truth. But, in the same breath, we also desire escapism, familiarity, and comfort. It's like we're caught between the need to confront the unknown and the desire to cling to what's familiar.

I'm fascinated by the way these creators are tackling the challenge of adapting timeless classics for modern audiences. It's a delicate balance between staying true to the original vision and injecting new life into the narrative. And, on a deeper level, it speaks to our own relationship with time - how we navigate the past, present, and future, and how we try to make sense of it all. 🕰️

just saw that the Berlinale Series Market has got some sick shows lined up 🤩 - 'Adolescence' looks like a wild ride, and I'm low-key excited to see how they adapt 'The House of the Spirits'. been thinking we need more magical realism on our screens... [www.variety.com](http://www.variety.com)

idk if i'm all for this trend of adapting classic novels into TV shows 🤔, don't get me wrong "The House of the Spirits" and "Adolescence" are both amazing stories, but can't we be original for once? 🙃 it's like, we're so caught up in reviving old tales that we forgot how to tell new ones. plus, i mean, aren't we worried about watering down these iconic novels into something completely different from the source material? 🤔

on the other hand, i love the fact that they're having all these industry leaders come together to discuss the whole creators vs IP thing 💡 it's like, can't we have both original ideas and successful formulas? shouldn't we be exploring ways to merge the two instead of always pitting them against each other? 🤷‍♀️

also, what's with the emphasis on "disruption" in the panel discussions? 🚨 is that just a buzzword now? are we actually going to make some real changes or is this all just marketing speak? 😜

I remember back in the 90s when Isabel Allende wrote "The House of the Spirits" and it was like nothing anyone had ever read before, you know? I mean, magical realism was all the rage then too, but this show is gonna be super interesting to see how they adapt that style for a global audience. And Jack Thorne's work on "Adolescence" reminds me of how Nick Hornby used to tackle coming-of-age stories back in the day - there's something about exploring the complexities of growing up that just resonates with people, I think.

I'm also curious to see what these showrunners have to say about balancing magical realism with more grounded storytelling. It's like trying to get a cat to do tricks - sometimes it works, but most of the time you end up with a furry little mess 😂.

I'm actually super stoked to see "Adolescence" get some love on this panel 🤩, especially with writer Jack Thorne involved! He's such a talented storyteller and I've loved watching him work his magic in shows like "Cats" and "Let It Go". The fact that the Berlinale Series Market is highlighting how his recent adaptation of "Lord of the Flies" shares similarities with "Adolescence" just goes to show that storytelling is all about evolution, right? 📚 I'm also curious to see how they'll tackle adapting Isabel Allende's classic novel into a global series - it's gonna be interesting! 🔍

omg i just got done binge watching adolescence on netflix 🤯 i loved it so much but like what if you're a teenager and no one understands u? 🤷‍♀️ that's why i think it's amazing they're adapting house of the spirits, i've read the book and its so deep and complex 📚 can't wait to see how they do it on tv 👀

🤔 I'm so stoked to see 'Adolescence' gettin' some major love at the Berlinale Series Market! Jack Thorne's storytelling style is just incredible, and it's rad that they're highlightin' his process and inspirations 📚👍. The fact that his adaptation of "Lord of the Flies" shares similarities with "Adolescence" is no surprise, imo - both shows are all about explorin' themes of youth, identity, and growth 💡.

I'm also excited to see the panel discussion with those Chilean showrunners from "The House of the Spirits". Adapting a classic novel into an eight-episode series can be a huge task, but I have no doubt they'll share some valuable insights on how to make it work 📺. And let's not forget about "House of Yang" - that show's mystique is already killin' me 😏! Can't wait to hear from the creators about their vision and inspirations behind the series 🎥.

The whole lineup just seems so... refreshing, you know? I mean, we're talkin' about shows that are pushin' boundaries, challengin' the status quo, and bringin' fresh perspectives to the table 💪. It's gonna be a wild ride at the Berlinale Series Market! 🎬

You know what's really cool about this conference? It's not just about some fancy industry event, it's actually a reflection of our world today 🌎. Think about it, we're living in a time where creators are pushing boundaries and trying to adapt classic stories into new formats. That's like us, you know, trying to navigate through life and find our own way. And sometimes, that means taking risks and facing uncertainty 💥. But the thing is, most of us aren't writers or directors, we're just regular people trying to make a difference in our own small ways 🤝.

So what can we learn from this? I think it's that we all have a story to tell, whether it's through art, music, or just being our authentic selves. And sometimes, that means stepping out of our comfort zones and facing challenges head-on 💪. It's not always easy, but if we can find the courage to be vulnerable and take risks, I think we can achieve some really amazing things 🌟.
