AI, Salman Rushdie and Elon Musk: the most anticipated documentaries of 2026

The documentary landscape is fast-paced and unpredictable at present. Several films are already gaining attention and buzz ahead of their scheduled releases next year, including 'Knife: The Attempted Murder of Salman Rushdie', 'Alex Gibney's Musk', 'The History of Concrete', 'Oz', 'Billie Eilish: Hit Me Hard and Soft: The Tour (Live in 3D)', 'The AI Doc', 'Once Upon a Time in Harlem', 'Give Me the Ball!', 'Questlove's Earth, Wind & Fire', and 'American Doctor'.

Salman Rushdie's memoir about his near-fatal 2022 onstage assassination attempt is set to be adapted into a documentary by Alex Gibney. The film promises an intimate look at Rushdie's recovery and features unseen footage of him with the help of his wife Rachel Eliza Griffiths.

Another highly anticipated project from Gibney is 'Alex Gibney's Musk', which will explore Elon Musk's life and career through interviews with those close to him, but not the entrepreneur himself. This raises questions about how much control the director had in shaping the narrative.

'The History of Concrete' is a more lighthearted take on the world of concrete, directed by John Wilson. The film promises to be an entertaining look at this often-overlooked material that has shaped our cities and architecture.

A new documentary about the 1939 classic 'Oz', the iconic movie that tested its creators, including director Victor Fleming and star Judy Garland, is set to premiere at Sundance. This will offer a fresh perspective on one of the most significant films of the 20th century.

Billie Eilish: Hit Me Hard and Soft: The Tour (Live in 3D) promises an innovative new concert experience by James Cameron and Eilish. This film's release comes after Cameron directed 'The Summer of Soul' and 'Sly Lives!', which received critical acclaim.

Daniel Roher, the director behind Oscar-winning documentary 'Navalny', returns with 'The AI Doc'. The film explores the existential dangers and potential promise of artificial intelligence through interviews with experts on both sides of the debate.

Questlove's upcoming documentary about Earth, Wind & Fire will delve into the history of the Chicago band. Questlove has established himself as a vital director of music documentaries and custodian of Black cultural history.

Lastly, 'American Doctor' documents three American physicians who responded to their moral obligation by visiting Gaza to provide medical aid to those suffering. This promises to be a heart-wrenching exploration of the complexities surrounding Palestinian freedom.

omg, can't wait for 'The AI Doc' 🤖... I mean, it's about time someone tackles the existential dangers of AI, right? like, we're already stuck in a loop of tech advancement and societal issues... Daniel Roher's already proven himself with 'Navalny', so fingers crossed this one doesn't get lost in the void.
anyway, Alex Gibney's next project is kinda suspicious, don't know if Elon Musk would've been down for that level of scrutiny 🤔. Guess we'll just have to wait and see how much control they had over the narrative...
on a lighter note, 'The History of Concrete' sounds like it could be a fun watch 😎. who doesn't love talking about concrete? I mean, seriously though, have you seen that stuff in action? crazy!

🤔 The documentary landscape is getting more lit, but I'm also feeling like we're living in a time where there's way too much content out there 📺. With all these big-name directors coming out with new projects, it's hard to know what to look forward to next 🎥.

I think the ones that really caught my eye are 'Alex Gibney's Musk' and 'The AI Doc'. The way they're exploring complex topics like Elon Musk's life and the existential dangers of AI is just so fascinating 🔍. And 'American Doctor' sounds like it could be a real game-changer, shedding light on an often-overlooked aspect of Palestinian freedom 🌎.

But at the same time, I'm also curious to see how some of these documentaries are going to handle sensitive topics, especially with directors like Alex Gibney who's been accused of having control over the narrative in his previous projects 🤷‍♂️. Can't wait to dive in and find out! 💻

I just got back from the most random trip to visit my aunt in LA 🌴, and I had to stop at this quirky thrift store on the way. They had some crazy vintage posters, but one caught my eye - it was an old advertisement for a 1950s diner that served the craziest milkshakes, like chocolate cake with strawberry ice cream. Anyway, got back home and saw that 'The AI Doc' is coming out next year 🤖... seems like we're finally gonna get some real answers on this whole AI thing. I mean, I've seen Billie Eilish's concerts, but I bet it'll be a whole different experience watching her live in 3D 😲

📺 I'm low-key excited about these upcoming documentaries 🤩. But, for real though, some projects are giving me major concerns about control and representation 🚨. Like, how much did Alex Gibney have to do with shaping Elon Musk's narrative in 'Alex Gibney's Musk'? 🤔 It's a big name, but what if his vision clashed with the entrepreneur's? 🤷‍♂️

On a more lighthearted note, I'm hyped for Billie Eilish: Hit Me Hard and Soft: The Tour (Live in 3D) ✨. James Cameron is no stranger to innovative storytelling, and pairing him with Eilish could be magic 🔮.

Lastly, 'The AI Doc' sounds super thought-provoking 🤯. I'm all about exploring the existential dangers of AI and the experts who are pushing back against it 💻. Can't wait to dive into this documentary! 📺

oh man I'm so hyped for 'Knife: The Attempted Murder of Salman Rushdie' 🤯 it's like, his story is still so raw and relevant even after everything he went through... i feel like we need more documentaries that tackle real-life trauma and recovery, you know? and then there's 'Alex Gibney's Musk', which raises some really interesting questions about control and narrative 🤔 can't wait to see how it all plays out. also, who else is excited for the new documentary about 'Oz'?! 🎥 that film holds so much history and cultural significance...

I'M SO EXCITED FOR THESE DOCUMENTARY PROJECTS COMING OUT NEXT YEAR!!! 🎥💥 FIRST OF ALL, THE FACT THAT SALMAN RUSHIE IS GETTING A DOCUMENTARY ABOUT HIS ASSASSINATION ATTEMPT IS JUST MIND-BLOWING! I MEAN, IT'S SUCH AN INTENSE AND PERSONAL STORY, AND I CAN ALREADY IMAGINE HOW POWERFUL IT'S GOING TO BE ON FILM. AND THEN THERE'S 'ALEX GIBNEY'S MUSK' WHICH RAISES SO MANY QUESTIONS ABOUT THE DIRECTOR'S ROLE IN SHAPING THE NARRATIVE... IS HE GOING TO TRY TO GET ELON MUSK TO OPEN UP, OR WILL IT JUST BE A REALLY INTERESTING LOOK AT HIS LIFE AND CAREER? 🤔

I'm so excited for all these documentaries coming out next year 🤩! There's definitely something for everyone - I mean, who doesn't want to see footage of Salman Rushdie recovering from his assassination attempt? 😲 And Billie Eilish in 3D concert film sounds like a wild ride 🎵. But what really caught my attention is 'The AI Doc'. We're living in a time where AI is becoming more and more integrated into our lives, so it's super interesting to see how this documentary explores both the benefits and risks of it all 💻. I'm also looking forward to Questlove's doc about Earth, Wind & Fire - his passion for music documentaries shines through! 🎸

OMG, can't wait for these docos! 🤩 I'm so down for 'The AI Doc' - gotta learn more about this crazy tech stuff 🤖💻. And Billie Eilish's concert film is gonna be lit 🔥! 💃 But, like, what's up with Alex Gibney not talking to Elon Musk himself? Does he think the director can get the real Elon story without him? 🤔

I'm getting so hyped for all these documentaries coming out next year! 🤯 It's like, we're living in a time where people are just giving us a front-row seat to their stories and experiences. You know, it's crazy how much power those behind the camera have to shape our perspectives on things.

I mean, Alex Gibney is really pushing boundaries with 'Alex Gibney's Musk', you know? It's like he's trying to explore this whole mystique around Elon Musk without actually talking to him himself 🤔. I'm curious to see how that plays out. And then there's Billie Eilish: Hit Me Hard and Soft, which sounds like it's gonna be an insane concert experience 🔥.

But what really gets me is 'The AI Doc'. It's like, this film has the potential to make us all rethink our relationship with technology 🤖. I'm super down for diving into that existential crisis with Daniel Roher. And Questlove's doc about Earth, Wind & Fire... man, that sounds like it's gonna be a wild ride! 🎸

For me, documentaries are more than just films - they're like doorways to new ideas and perspectives. So I'm stoked for the next year of documentary releases, 'cause I know it's gonna be all about expanding our minds 🤓
