Airbnb has taken its hosting services to a whole new level by testing a feature that allows guests to order groceries through Instacart, according to reports by Bloomberg. While it may not be a revolutionary idea for guests who can already use any grocery app during their stay, this new service offers an added layer of convenience before the guest's arrival.
For instance, hosts can prepare for events like barbecues or parties ahead of time and have all the necessary ingredients at hand. This could prove particularly useful around holidays when hosting gatherings is a common occurrence.
As part of the pilot program, Airbnb will be reimbursing hosts $25 for every completed order through Instacart, provided they put the groceries away before the guests arrive. However, it's worth noting that guests will still need to put their own groceries away during their stay.
Potential customers can place an Instacart order up to three weeks in advance of their booking, adding another layer of planning and preparation into the hosting process.
The testing of this feature began on January 5 and is set to run for a period of three months to gauge how guests and hosts react. Initially, it will be available to "select hosts" across several US cities, including Phoenix, Orlando, and Los Angeles. This marks another unique integration by Airbnb, following its partnership with ChargePoint last year, which offered discounts on electric vehicle chargers to host.
The move is aimed at entice more hosts to install EV charging points, as part of a broader effort by the platform to attract eco-conscious hosts.
