Apple Valley man spared prison in Mounds View shooting case

A Mounds View man walked free from prison time Monday after pleading guilty to second-degree assault for shooting another man during a heated argument at a mobile home park last March.

Alex Robert Quevedo-Holmes, 21, was sentenced in Ramsey County District Court to nearly a year behind bars and four years of probation. He had initially been facing up to three years in prison but had his sentence reduced by Judge Thomas Gilligan Jr., who accepted Quevedo-Holmes' argument that the victim was the aggressor prior to and during the incident.

According to testimony, the shooting occurred after a woman who claimed to be in a relationship with both men met Quevedo-Holmes at a bar and spent the night at his residence. The next day, the man she dated texted her saying he intended to beat him up, and the two argued outside before Quevedo-Holmes fired.

The victim was struck in the thigh and taken to hospital with severe bleeding, prompting a massive search effort by law enforcement agencies and a "shelter-in-place" order. Quevedo-Holmes was eventually arrested without incident and has since been serving his reduced sentence.

He's gonna be out soon 🀞 hope he stays on the right path now that he's got a second chance πŸ˜” can't help but wonder what's gonna happen to him next, seems like some rough times in his life already πŸ’”

I'm still trying to wrap my head around this whole situation πŸ€”. I mean, the guy gets shot in the thigh and nearly dies, and now he's walking free? It just doesn't add up to me. I know we're supposed to believe that the victim was the aggressor all along, but it seems like a pretty dodgy argument to me 😐. What if I told you that I think there's more to this story than what's being let on... and I'm not buying the "he was in love with her" excuse either πŸ’”. Something just doesn't sit right here πŸ€·β€β™‚οΈ.

I dont get why the judge is being so lenient on this dude... 1 year in prison? That seems way too easy considering he shot someone! πŸ€”πŸ˜‘ I mean, what if it had gone wrong? What if the guy had died or something? This whole thing just reeks of favoritism and not enough accountability for his actions. The victim's family should have some closure by now instead of getting to hear that their loved one is going home soon πŸ™„πŸ’”

can u believe this dude got off scot-free? i mean, i get that the judge accepted his argument about the other guy being aggressive, but it seems like a pretty clear-cut case to me πŸ€”. 21 yrs old and he's already had a taste of prison life, now he gets to walk free after serving less than 1 year? doesn't seem right to me... i think we need to rethink our justice system, make sure that people who commit violent crimes like this are held accountable. and what about the victim? he was left with severe injuries and a long road to recovery πŸ€•. it's all just so frustrating 😑

I'm not buying this whole "aggressor prior to and during the incident" excuse πŸ˜’. It sounds like just a weak attempt to get out of taking full responsibility for what happened. I mean, if he was really afraid of being beat up by someone who was already aggressive, why did he go and shoot him in the first place? πŸ€” And now we're supposed to believe that the woman who's been with both guys is some kind of saint just because she didn't want to get involved? Please. It's all about what happens next after the fact, not about taking responsibility for your own actions. This whole system is broken 😑.

I'm kinda surprised that Alex Robert Quevedo-Holmes got such a lenient sentence πŸ€”. I mean, you're shot in the thigh with severe bleeding and the person who does it gets off with nearly a year in prison? It just seems like it should be more serious considering how hurt the victim was πŸ’Έ. Maybe Judge Thomas Gilligan Jr. took into account the fact that both guys were fighting over a girl and it got pretty heated 😀, but still, I think 4 years of probation is a bit easy on him πŸ™„. It's not like he didn't pull the trigger, after all! 😬

Just read about this guy Alex Robert Quevedo-Holmes who got out of prison after pleading guilty to shooting another dude during an arguement at a mobile home park 🀯. He only got nearly a year behind bars because the judge thought the other guy was being super aggressive before and during the fight. I'm not saying he's innocent or anything, but it seems like the system is trying to help people work on their stuff instead of just throwing them away for life.

You know what's wild? The media coverage around this guy would've been way different if a person with a different skin tone was involved in the shooting. We need to be more aware of that bias and make sure we're not perpetuating it through our news outlets πŸ’‘. Anyway, I wish Alex good luck on his journey towards redemption – we all deserve a second chance! πŸ‘

I JUST CAN'T BELIEVE THE JUDGE'S DECISION ON THIS CASE!!! I mean, the guy shot someone in the leg and almost killed them, but he only gets 11 months?!?! It just doesn't seem fair to me πŸ€·β€β™‚οΈ. I get that the victim was aggressive before the shooting, but that's not an excuse for using a gun! And what really gets me is that the judge accepted his argument without even considering the fact that Quevedo-Holmes had access to a firearm and was willing to use it 🀬. I wish the judge would've taken a firmer stance on this one... IT JUST SEEMS LIKE HE WAS SLEEPING ON THE JOB πŸ›‹οΈ.

omg the format of this article is kinda messy lol 🀯 i mean, why are there so many random sentences strung together? it's like they didn't even proofread or anything πŸ™„ shouldn't we have a clearer idea of what's happening at the start? also, what's up with all these dates and locations? some bullet points would be super helpful here β°πŸ“

That's crazy what happened last March 🀯. I mean, the whole thing went downhill after that girl texted him saying she wanted to beat him up and then proceeded to do it in real life πŸ™„. It's not like he started it or anything...and for the victim to try to threaten someone after they've already broken things off with them? That's just low, man πŸ€¦β€β™‚οΈ.

So yeah, I guess we can be glad that Alex didn't get more than a year in prison...it could've been way worse πŸ’”. And I'm all for Judge Gilligan Jr. making the decision to reduce his sentence based on what Quevedo-Holmes said about the whole thing - it's definitely not cut and dry, you know? But at the same time, it's also hard to blame him 100% for trying to defend himself...I guess we'll just never really know what happened in that moment πŸ€”.

Man, this case is wild 🀯. I'm not sure if I should be happy that the dude got out early or worried about the fact that he's still walking free after shooting someone. I mean, four years of probation is a decent amount of time, but it's still relatively short considering what could've happened. And to think that judge accepted his argument that the victim was the aggressor... sounds like some pretty shaky reasoning to me πŸ™„. But hey, at least no one died in the end, which is all that really matters, right? 😬 Still, can't help but wonder if this kind of nonsense will just keep happening until someone gets hurt badly enough to land behind bars for a lot longer... πŸ€”

Wow 🀯, I'm still trying to process how one person's anger can lead to another person being shot and almost dying πŸ₯😨. The fact that the woman was involved with both parties just added fuel to the fire πŸ’β€β™€οΈπŸ”₯. Four years of probation is a decent sentence, but I feel like it's not enough considering the severity of the incident β°πŸ’Ό.

πŸ€” this sentence is kinda harsh for 4 yrs probation tho 1 year sounds way more fair considering the circumstances he got into with that other dude πŸ˜•

omg can u bliev this guy got off scot free!!! 😲 Alex was doin some serious damage with that gun & the other guy was left w/ a huge gash on his thigh πŸ€•. i mean, cant we jus get ppl 2 calm down before things escalate? πŸ™„ its not like alex meant 2 hurt him or ennythin...but yeah, justice system can be soooo weird πŸ€·β€β™€οΈ. probs cuz he plead guilty & didnt try 2 fight it in court lol πŸ‘€ anywae glad no1 else got hurt & i hope quevedo-holmes gets some serious counseling or sumethin 🀝

πŸ€” Still don't get why he got off that easy tho... 4 years of probation is like, a slap on the wrist? 🚫 And what's with the 'shelter-in-place' order tho? Like, what's next? Locking down an entire city? 😬

I don't get why he got off so easy... like, 4 years of probation? seems way too light considering the victim had to spend time in hospital with some serious injuries πŸ’”πŸ‘Ž. I'm not saying he didn't deserve a slap on the wrist or whatever, but 4 yrs sounds pretty lenient to me πŸ€·β€β™‚οΈ.

you know what's wild? like i was at this food truck festival last summer and they had these crazy good vegan quesadillas 🀯 and i was thinking, have you guys tried that brand of plant-based cheese? it's insane how much better it tastes than the stuff they used to make. anyway, back to quevedo-holmes... i mean, four years on probation is pretty lenient considering what happened. but i guess judge gilligan Jr. saw some mitigating circumstances and thought he deserved a break. my mom always says that everyone deserves a second chance, even if they mess up big time 😊

I just saw that new Marvel movie with my mates over the weekend πŸΏπŸ‘ it was so epic! But you know what's wild? I saw this guy at the cinema who wore the exact same superhero shirt as me πŸ˜‚ we ended up chatting about it for ages, and now we're planning to meet up again for a gaming session. Anyway, back to TV shows... have you seen that new Netflix series? I'm totally binging it right now πŸ“ΊπŸ‘€
