Asus may have made its last phone

Asus is reportedly hanging up its phone-making hat, signaling the end of an era for the Taiwanese tech giant. In a statement to Taiwan's Inside magazine, Asus chairman Jonney Shih confirmed that the company will no longer be adding new mobile phone models in the future, effectively exiting the Android market.

Shih's declaration comes as a surprise to many, given Asus' significant presence in the premium smartphone space over the years. The Zenfone series has been a stalwart of mid-range and high-end offerings, while the ROG Phone line has consistently pushed the boundaries of gaming smartphones.

However, recent releases from Asus have been met with lukewarm reception. The Zenfone 12 Ultra, released in 2025, failed to generate much excitement, and the ROG Phone 9 FE, also a 2025 release, was only available outside of the US.

Asus's decision to discontinue its mobile phone line has left many wondering if the company will return to the market. Shih suggested that the company is entering an "indefinite observation" period, during which it will continue to care for its existing mobile phone users but won't be adding new models.

While this news may come as a disappointment to fans of Asus' smartphones, it's unclear how this move will impact the company's overall strategy. One thing is certain, however: the smartphone market has become increasingly crowded and competitive in recent years, with many manufacturers opting to focus on other areas such as PC hardware, laptops, or gaming consoles.

For now, it seems that Asus is choosing to step away from the rapidly evolving world of mobile devices, but it's possible that we may see a return in the future. As Shih himself noted, "we will continue to take care of the brand's mobile phone users." Only time will tell if this promise holds true or if Asus will remain forever silent on the smartphone front.

๐Ÿค” I'm kinda surprised by this move, but not entirely shocked. Asus has always been a bit of an underdog in the high-end market, and their recent releases didn't exactly set the world on fire ๐Ÿ™ƒ. Still, it's a shame to see them go, especially since they brought some unique features like cooling systems for gaming phones ๐Ÿ˜Ž. Maybe this is a sign that Asus is focusing more on other areas, like PC hardware or laptops? That would be pretty interesting to see. But on the other hand, if they do come back into the market, it'll probably be with even more innovative stuff ๐Ÿค–.

I'm kinda surprised by this news ๐Ÿค”... I mean, Asus has been a staple in the premium segment for years and their gaming phones are always a hit ๐Ÿ”ฅ. But at the same time, I've noticed that their recent releases haven't exactly set the world on fire ๐Ÿ˜. It's like they're trying to pivot or something? Anyway, I hope they stick to what they do best โ€“ making awesome PC hardware ๐Ÿ–ฅ๏ธ and laptops ๐Ÿ’ป. Maybe this is just a strategic move to conserve resources and focus on other areas where they can dominate ๐Ÿ†. Only time will tell if we'll see Asus back in the mobile game ๐Ÿ“ฑ... but I'm sure their fans are gonna be kept happy with top-notch PC stuff ๐Ÿ˜Š.

I feel so weird about this news, like my phone is gonna be obsolete soon ๐Ÿคฏ I mean, I love Asus' Zenfone series and ROG Phone line, they're always pushing the limits of what a phone can do. But at the same time, it's not surprising, the smartphone market is getting super saturated and everyone's just trying to focus on something else, like gaming consoles or laptops.

I hope Asus is doing okay, I mean, Jonney Shih said they'll keep caring for their existing users, that's good, right? ๐Ÿคž But it's still gonna be sad for all the fans out there who are used to seeing new Asus phones. Maybe we'll see them come back in the future, but until then, I guess I'll just have to wait and see what they do next ๐Ÿ’ก

Asus is like that one friend who just stopped showing up to parties ๐Ÿค”... I'm kinda surprised they're leaving the phone game, though. They had some great devices and were always innovating. Now it's like they just lost interest? ๐Ÿ“ด The market is super crowded already, so you'd think someone would've picked them off by now ๐Ÿ˜…. But, at the same time, I can kinda understand why they'd wanna step back... it's a crazy industry and phones are getting more complicated by the minute ๐Ÿ’ป. So yeah, I'm curious to see what happens next โ€“ will they just chill out or try to make a comeback? ๐Ÿคทโ€โ™‚๏ธ Only Asus knows for sure...

๐Ÿ˜ so what do u think? asus was like a staple in our phones back in the day ๐Ÿ“ฑ but their recent releases were meh ๐Ÿค” and now they're just gonna chill out for a bit ๐Ÿ‘Œ idk if i'm sad or relieved tbh ๐Ÿคทโ€โ™€๏ธ it's like they're acknowledging that maybe, just maybe, smartphones aren't as cool as gaming laptops ๐Ÿ˜Ž or pc hardware ๐Ÿ–ฅ๏ธ who knows? maybe they'll come back in a few years and surprise us ๐Ÿค”

i gotta say, its weird to think that asus is basically leaving the android game ๐Ÿค”. i mean they've had some amazing phones over the years, especially the zenfone series. but at the same time, recent releases haven't exactly set the world on fire ๐Ÿ”ฅ. maybe this indefinite observation period is just what they need to recharge and refocus? idk, but one thing's for sure - its a bit of a blow to fans who were still holding out hope ๐Ÿคž.

I gotta say, I'm kinda bummed out about Asus ditching the mobile phone game ๐Ÿค• It's been a staple in my daily life for ages, and to think it might be a thing of the past is just weird. At the same time, I get it - the market's just gotten so saturated with all these new players trying to cut in. It's like, can't we just focus on something else for once? ๐Ÿคฏ

But what really got me thinking is how this move might affect Asus' overall strategy... are they gonna pivot to PC gaming or something? ๐Ÿค” I mean, they've already got a solid foothold with the ROG line, so it wouldn't be too crazy of a stretch. Plus, who knows, maybe they'll come back to mobile in 5 years and we'll be all like "oh yeah, Asus was there all along" ๐Ÿ˜

I'm super bummed ๐Ÿค• to hear that Asus is hanging up its phone-making hat ๐Ÿ˜”. They've always been known for their awesome gaming phones and mid-range flagships ๐Ÿ”ฅ. I mean, who wouldn't want a ROG Phone with all those sweet cooling features โ„๏ธ? But now it's just...bye ๐Ÿ‘‹.

I guess the market has gotten too crazy ๐Ÿคฏ and Asus is like, "You know what, we're outta here" ๐Ÿ˜‚. I'm kinda curious to see if they'll come back though ๐Ÿ”ฎ. Maybe after a few years of PC gaming or laptop makin' ๐Ÿ’ป? It's weird that they won't be addin' new models no more ๐Ÿ“ฆ...I mean, what's the point of even havin' a brand if you're not gonna make new stuff? ๐Ÿค”

Still, I gotta give it to Jonney Shih ๐Ÿ‘ for takin' care of existing users ๐Ÿ˜Š. That's always good business ๐Ÿ’ธ. But now we just have to wait and see what happens next ๐Ÿ”ฎ...is this the end of Asus as a phone company or will they come back swingin'? ๐Ÿค” Only time'll tell, I guess...

idk about asus just chillin out like that tho ๐Ÿค” i mean they've been around for ages and had some sick phones but idc what happens now i guess it's just the market getting too crazy ๐Ÿ“ฑ๐Ÿ’ธ if they're gonna take care of their users tho thats cool i guess ill keep an eye out to see if they come back to the game ๐Ÿ’ฏ

๐Ÿค” I gotta say, Asus was one of those brands that always brought a bit of excitement to the table when it came to smartphones. But honestly, their recent releases just didn't seem to have the same oomph as they used to ๐Ÿ“ต. I mean, I love me some ROG Phone gaming power, but it feels like they're not innovating as much as they could be these days.

And now this news that they're hanging up their phone-making hat... it's a bit of a bummer for fans, but at the same time, I get it. The smartphone market is crazy competitive right now, and it's hard to compete with all the new players that keep coming in ๐Ÿš€. Maybe Asus will come back to the game when they're ready, and that would be awesome ๐Ÿ˜Š. For now, though, it'll be interesting to see how their existing user base holds up.

aww man Asus is really hangin' up their phone game ๐Ÿ“ต๐Ÿ’” i get it though, they gotta pivot and focus on other areas like PC hardware and gaming consoles ๐ŸŽฎ๐Ÿ˜Ž the market's gotten so crazy competitive, it's hard to stand out anymore ๐Ÿ’ฅ but at the same time, it's def sad for all us Asus fans who love their Zenfone and ROG Phone series ๐Ÿ˜ข still keep fingers crossed that they might make a comeback tho ๐Ÿคž

aww, Asus fans are gonna miss those phones ๐Ÿ˜” they've been a part of our daily lives for so long and many of us have fond memories of using their devices ๐Ÿ“ฑ๐Ÿ’ป it's not uncommon for companies to pivot their focus away from certain markets, especially when the competition gets too tough ๐Ÿคฏ but it's still sad to see them leave ๐Ÿ’” let's hope they'll come back stronger in the future ๐Ÿคž

just imagine a world without asus phones lol what was wrong with zenfone 12 ultra? didn't get good reviews but i still loved my zenfone 7 haha anyway, i kinda think this is a smart move by asus considering the market is getting super saturated and they can focus on their pc gaming business which is fire rn

I'm kinda bummed to hear about Asus giving up on making phones ๐Ÿค”. They've had some awesome models over the years, like the Zenfone and ROG Phone lines. But at the same time, it's not surprising that their recent releases didn't exactly blow people away ๐Ÿ’”. The market is so saturated right now with all these brands vying for attention.

I think Asus might be trying to focus on other areas of their business, like PC hardware or gaming consoles ๐ŸŽฎ. They've been doing some cool stuff in those spaces already, so it's not hard to see them investing more time and resources there. Plus, they can always come back to the phone game if they want to ๐Ÿ“ฑ.

But honestly, I'm a bit curious about what Asus will do next ๐Ÿ’ญ. Will they just sit out for a while and chill? Or will they surprise us with a new product line? We'll just have to wait and see โฐ!

omg like i know asus has been struggling for a while now ๐Ÿ˜’ their phones just aren't selling as well as they used to, and it makes sense that they're pulling out of the market ๐Ÿ“‰ maybe shih is being realistic about it all? still gonna miss the zenfone series tho ๐Ÿ’” what do you guys think will happen next with asus? will they come back to the game in a few years or is this like a permanent goodbye ๐Ÿค”

Asus just gave up on their mobile game ๐Ÿšซ๐Ÿ“ฑ. I mean, it's not like they were killing it in the market or anything ๐Ÿ˜‚. Their recent releases have been straight-up snoozefests, and now they're just throwing in the towel ๐Ÿ‘‹. But hey, at least they're keeping their promise to care for existing users ๐Ÿค. The thing is, when do we see them back in the game? ๐Ÿค” Only time (and Jonney Shih's word) will tell ๐Ÿ’โ€โ™‚๏ธ. I guess Asus is just choosing to focus on more profitable areas like PC hardware and gaming consoles ๐Ÿ’ธ...or maybe they're just done with mobile ๐Ÿ˜. Either way, it's sad news for those who loved their Zenfone series ๐Ÿ”ฅ.
