Barabak: The Golden State is suffering truth decay. Sacramento should do something about it.

I'm getting really concerned about the state of journalism in Cali rn 🤯. These tech giants are making bank off our personal info, but what do we get in return? A few scraps from their table? 🙄 It's like they're sucking up all the air in California and leaving us with nothing but propaganda and fake news.

I'm not sure what's more alarming - the fact that 7/10 journalists have lost their jobs or the lack of concrete action being taken by lawmakers. A $175 million deal sounds great on paper, but when it comes down to it, Google is basically just paying lip service 🤷‍♂️.

We need real solutions here, not just handshakes and empty promises 📝. Lawmakers should be forcing these platforms to pay up for the news they're stealing. It's time to put some teeth in this deal and make sure California's democracy has a robust press that can hold those in power accountable 💪.

man i'm not surprised anymore... 🤔 google & facebook are all about profiting off our info, not preserving it 🤑 they're basically sucking the life outta local journalism and we're just along for the ride 😩 and now the gov is like "oh no, let's just make a deal with them" 🙄 what a joke... 175 million over five years? that's like treating a wound with a bandaid 💉 california needs real action, not empty promises...

I mean come on 🤷‍♂️, what's up with these politicians and their empty promises? $175 million sounds like a lot, but when you break it down, it's just crumbs compared to what Google is making off our backs. And now they're trying to scale it back to $10 million? That's just laughable 🤣. The problem isn't the money, it's the fact that these big tech corporations don't have to play by the same rules as everyone else. It's time for them to pay their fair share 💸.

And let's not forget, this is all just a Band-Aid solution. We need systemic change, not just some token gesture from Google or the state government. I'm not saying it can't help, but come on people, don't get too excited 🙄. We need real journalism, not some watered-down version that's just going to perpetuate the same problems we're trying to solve.

By the way, have you seen the latest polls from California? The public is already getting restless about this issue... 🤔
