Brooklyn man charged in stabbing death of his 85-year-old grandmother

A 22-year-old Brooklyn resident is facing serious charges after allegedly stabbing his 85-year-old grandmother to death in their shared Bedford-Stuyvesant apartment. According to the NYPD, Jackson King had been taken into custody hours following the Tuesday night attack but wasn't formally charged until Friday.

Police investigations have revealed that Boomer suffered multiple stab wounds in the assault. While earlier reports hinted at a possible psychotic episode, authorities now believe the incident may be linked to more deliberate intent.

King's family and legal representation are currently unavailable for comment. This marks the first homicide of 2026 within the 79th Precinct boundaries, which includes Bed-Stuy.

Nationwide, homicides in New York City have plummeted by over 20% year-over-year. However, local precincts continue to grapple with violent crimes. With this latest incident, Brooklyn is once again among the city's hotspots for deadly confrontations.

The NYPD's latest crime data indicates that Bed-Stuy has seen a relatively stable number of homicides in recent years – eight reported cases in 2024 and 2025, respectively.

man this is just so senseless... like what even is going on with these young ppl? stabbed his own grandma 🤯♂️😱, can't believe the audacity. people say it's a generational thing or whatever, but honestly I think it's just a case of some ppl losin' touch with reality and treatin' others like they're less than human... 20% down in homicides across the city is still pretty low if you ask me, feels like we should be celebratin' that, not mournin' another senseless death 💔👎

🤔 I'm shocked this didn't get more attention earlier. The fact that it took hours for him to be taken into custody but wasn't formally charged until Friday is just red flag after red flag... what was the delay? 🕰️ Was there a hasty decision made by the cops or someone in King's family to avoid drawing more attention to the situation?

And I'm not buying the "possible psychotic episode" excuse. If that was the case, why didn't he get help sooner? It seems like King had some clear motive to hurt his grandma, but nobody wanted to take action.

I need to see a timeline of events and witness statements before I can even begin to believe there's no bigger conspiracy at play here... 📰👀

🤕 this case is just heartbreaking what's going on with some young people nowadays? stabbing their own family members it's like, you're already dead inside or something 😩. I mean, 85 is not old, that's like, ancient! how could someone do that to their grandmother? 🤯 and now the whole neighborhood's gonna be all shook up because of this one kid's actions. I'm not even saying he deserves whatever happens to him but come on, get some help, Jackson! 🤝 we need more community support and mental health services for people like that...

🤕 So sad to hear about this poor grandma 🙏. Stabbings are super violent & I hope the guy gets some help... or at least some serious time behind bars ⚖️.

I'm a bit surprised that it took them like hours to catch him, but I guess they're doing everything they can. 💪

I saw some stats online saying that homicides in NYC have actually dropped by 20% this year 📉. That's amazing! But it's also kinda weird that Bed-Stuy is still a hotspot for violent crimes 🤔.

Can't help but wonder what led up to the attack... was there some kind of warning sign? Maybe we can learn from this & find ways to prevent more of these incidents in the future 💡

Anyway, my heart goes out to the grandma's family 🙏. Wishing them all the best during this tough time 🌟

can't believe what's going on in bed-stuy rn 😩 like we were just told this was one of the safer neighborhoods in the city and then you got some young dude like that stabbin his grandma to death 🤯 it's just sad man, all these stats show homicides are way down but this is a huge wake up call for us residents to keep our communities safe 💔 king might not have meant to do what he did but the fact remains it was intentional and that's what hurts 💔

Ugh I cant believe another young whippersnapper committing such a heinous crime 🤯. 22 yrs old and already stabbed his own grandma to death? what's the world coming to?

I'm so sick of these 'gen Z' kids thinking they can just do whatever they want and no one will say anything 💁‍♀️. Newsflash: there are consequences, dude!

and another thing, why is it always the young people committing these heinous crimes? shouldn't we be focusing on helping them get their lives together rather than punishing them? 🤷‍♂️

This is like so messed up 🤕...can't believe what we're seeing with this young dude, I mean Jackson King, stabbing his own grandma to death. it's just crazy, you feel me? Like, a 22-year-old with a whole life ahead of them, and they go and do something like that? it's just heartbreaking for the family, especially his grandma's loved ones who are gonna be dealing with this trauma.

And yeah, I know NYC has been seeing some nice stats on homicides, but sometimes these numbers don't tell the whole story. Bed-Stuy's still a hotspot, and it's like we gotta keep working to address the root causes of this violence, you know? It's not just about the policing or the courts; it's about giving our young people the support they need to thrive.

I mean, Jackson King's family is trying to process all of this, but they're basically in the dark right now. I hope they get some answers soon. 🤝
