just saw this news about Iquan Warlick gettin life behind bars for his involvement in 3 separate homicides and i'm SHOOK 
he was only 16 when the killings started happenin' and now he's 21 and facin a 33 year-to-life sentence 
those online boastful posts from back then are still givin me chills 
like how reckless and careless some young people can be when it comes to gang violence 
did you know that according to the FBI, there were over 34,000 gun-related homicides in 2020 alone? 
let's just say Brooklyn is a hot spot for this kinda thing 
Stats on violent crime in NYC:
* 2020: 1,104 murders
* 2022: 555 murders
* 2023: 434 murders (as of Feb)
Gang violence is a major issue in many cities across the US. In Brooklyn alone, there were:
* 134 gang-related homicides between 2018-2020
* 63% increase in gang-related shootings between 2019-2020
The average life sentence for murder in NYC is around 25 years 
and that's just the beginning of the punishment. Restitution, probation, parole... it can be a real grind for the convicts and their families 
it's so sad Daijyonna Long was such a young girl who didn't deserve to die 
i'm just so frustrated that gang violence is still such a huge problem in Brooklyn, like what even is going on?! 
and Warlick just posted all these boastful things online after the fact it's just, ugh 
my heart goes out to her family and friends who have to deal with this pain forever 
I mean, can you even imagine having to live with the guilt of what you did? I think it's great that his accomplices got some time for their part in all this, but 33 years-to-life seems like a lot for Warlick too... it feels like just an example sentence. 
Anyway, glad Brooklyn is sending out a clear message about not tolerating gang violence, and I hope it helps to prevent more tragedies from happening.
