‘Celestial Sips’ turns The Franklin Institute into a stargazing cocktail party

The Franklin Institute's iconic halls will transform into a star-studded soiree next month as part of its Science After Hours series. On December 5th, "Celestial Sips" promises to be an evening of adulting with a dash of science and socializing.

Grown-ups who enjoy the intersection of curiosity and revelry can look forward to a night that combines cocktails from local distilleries with breathtaking views of the stars through telescopes. Chief astronomer Derrick Pitts and musician Keegan Tawa will take guests on a journey through planetarium shows, guiding them to explore the celestial wonders above.

Meanwhile, interactive demos by the Monell Chemical Senses Center and the Penn Soft Earth Dynamics Lab inject an element of fun and education into the night. The trivia group Facts Machine will have the crowd in stitches with its science-themed game show, adding a lighthearted touch to the evening.

In celebration of this special event, Wissahickon Brewing Co. has crafted a unique beer exclusively for "Celestial Sips." Tickets are priced at $40 for general admission, with members getting a discounted rate of $35.

The Franklin Institute's rooftop deck will be abuzz with music by DJ Bobby Flowers, whose set list is inspired by the Harlem Renaissance. While there's no strict dress code, guests are encouraged to add some sparkle to their outfits, fitting for an evening that promises to shine brighter than the stars themselves.

Those looking forward to this unique experience must be 21 years or older and purchase tickets in advance. Food will be available for purchase, making it easy to mingle and enjoy the festivities throughout the night.

I'm so down for this event 🤩! I mean, who doesn't love a good mix of science, drinks, and socializing? The fact that they're featuring local distilleries and breweries is a great touch - supporting the community while having fun is always the way to go 💡. And can we talk about how cool it is to have a rooftop deck with telescopes for stargazing? It's like the perfect blend of relaxation and wonder 🌠. Plus, the music and trivia games sound like they'll add some awesome vibes to the night 🎶. I might not be able to make it myself, but I'm definitely sending my favorite science-loving friends to this party 🤗!

🌠 The Franklin Institute is hosting a super cool event called "Celestial Sips" where you can enjoy science, drinks, and music under the stars! 🍻 I think this sounds like an amazing way to spend a December evening, it's like a fun mashup of adulting and exploration. Plus, they've got experts from different fields sharing their knowledge and interactive demos that'll make you LOL 😂. I'm intrigued by the special beer created just for this event - who wouldn't want to try that? 🍺 Ticket prices seem reasonable too, especially considering it's a unique experience. Anyone going to this party is definitely in for a stellar time! 💫

OMG, can't wait for Celestial Sips at Franklin Institute 🤩🌠! Who wouldn't wanna sip on some local brews while stargazing? The combo of science and socializing is perfect for me 😊. Derrick Pitts as a planetarium guide? Genius move! And the beer created just for this event? Wissahickon Brewing Co. you're a lifesaver 🍺💫. Definitely gonna be a night to remember, sparkle or not 💃🏻🔥

🌠 I think what's fascinating about this event is how we can find beauty in the pursuit of knowledge... like, we're all just trying to grasp this vast universe, right? And yet, here we are, sipping craft beers and gazing at stars through telescopes - it's almost as if we're giving ourselves permission to be curious, to explore, and to have fun with science. 🤔 The fact that there's a "Celestial Sips" beer specially created for the event is just the cherry on top, isn't it? It's like our curiosity has led us to this moment of indulgence... and I think that's really beautiful 💫

you know what's wild about events like this? we're all just tiny specks in the grand scheme of things, yet we can't help but try to grasp onto something bigger than ourselves. like, think about it, a bunch of people gathered on a rooftop, looking up at the stars, trying to make sense of it all... it's almost as if we're all just chasing this fleeting sense of connection to something more meaningful.

and then you got your science and your art and your music all mixed together... it's like, what even is this thing called "celestial sips"? is it about the beer? or the stars? or the people themselves? maybe it's a little bit of everything.

I'm so down for this event 🤩! Who wouldn't want to sip on some fancy cocktails while gazing at the stars? But let's get real, $40 is a bit steep for me 💸. I'd be happy to shell out the cash if there were some discounts or promotions for students or younger folks. Also, I love that they're incorporating local distilleries and breweries into the event - it's gonna be so much fun! But omg, DJ Bobby Flowers' set list is supposed to be inspired by the Harlem Renaissance? That's so cool 🎵! Can't wait to see some awesome performances and learn a thing or two about science too 💡.
