Celtic midfielder Maria McAneny has been handed a surprise call-up by Scotland women's national team boss Melissa Andreatta. The 21-year-old, who has previously represented Scotland Under-23s, will don the Tartan Army colours for the first time in a friendly match against Ukraine on Friday in Jerez, Spain. She will then face China at Estadio Municipal de Chapin on December 2.
Scotland's women team lost to Switzerland last month after an away win over Morocco, with both fixtures classified as friendlies. Andretta's side will meet Ukraine and China before the end of the year, a precursor to their World Cup qualifying campaign in 2026 against Belgium, Israel, and Luxembourg.
McAneny is among several Celtic players to have received international recognition this season, following Taylor's debut for Scotland last month.

it's amazing how far you can go with hard work and dedication! I remember when my own niece started playing soccer at a young age, she was so passionate about it and that's what drove her to excel. It's great to see more young girls like Maria getting the recognition they deserve
