Class 2A girls soccer: Berger, Aflakpi ‘steal’ championship for Mahtomedi

Berger Steals Mahtomedi's State Crown: A Goal-Line Wonder Turns Title Game Upside Down

In a Class 2A girls soccer championship game for the ages, Mahtomedi goalkeeper Harlow Berger pulled off an incredible feat, steering her team to a thrilling 1-0 victory over Blake. The win marked the Eagles' second consecutive state crown and sent shockwaves through the field of competitors.

Berger's heroics came at a high cost, however, as she suffered a brutal shoulder injury in the final minutes of the game. Despite feeling her shoulder pop out of joint, Berger continued to play, making two crucial saves before being relieved by her teammates. Her bravery and skill earned her widespread praise from coaches and players alike.

Mahtomedi's Elise Aflakpi scored the winning goal in the 65th minute, a beautifully crafted chip over Blake goalkeeper Reese Aafedt that left the crowd gasping in amazement. The junior forward's celebration was met with cheers from her teammates, who had outshot their opponents by a staggering 19-4.

Despite being outplayed and outshot, Mahtomedi's defense was solid, thanks in large part to Berger's incredible form. The Eagles' goalkeeper made an astonishing dozen saves, several of them spectacular, and her leadership was instrumental in guiding her team to the title.

Blake coach Jocelyn Keller acknowledged that her team had been outplayed but remained gracious in defeat. "Soccer's an unfortunate game where you can outplay and outshoot a team and then that happens," she said.

Mahtomedi's coach, Dave Wald, was jubilant in victory, hailing his goalkeeper as an "amazing person and game-changer." Berger's injury has left her future plans uncertain, but for now, she will bask in the glory of Mahtomedi's second consecutive state crown.

I mean can we talk about this team dynamic at play here? It's like they're taking a page out of the "win-at-all-costs" playbook 🤑. I'm all for winning and celebrating championships, but is it really worth risking an athlete's long-term health? Berger could've had career-ending injuries and her team still would be basking in the glory 💥. It makes you wonder about the value we place on athletic performance over player well-being...

I mean, what a thrilling finish to that game! 🤯 I guess you could say Harper (Berger) really "dove" headfirst into that shoulder injury 💦. Like, who needs to check for joint dislocations when you're trying to save the game? 😂 But seriously, that was some crazy skill on display from her, and I'm loving the drama of it all - poor kid's got a broken shoulder and whatnot 🤕. Can't wait to see how she recovers (or if she can still throw 95+ mph without it 😬). Congrats to Mahtomedi on the win tho! 🎉

ugh 1-0 is basically a guaranteed win at this point in high school soccer 🤦‍♀️ what was Blake even doing out there? 19 shots vs 4? like, that's not even close... and can we just say Harlow Berger's heroics are kinda overshadowing by her injury lol she's literally the real MVP, but also I feel bad for her 🤕

man that harlow berger is a total legend 🙌! i'm still trying to process how she kept playing with that shoulder injury and made those insane saves 🤯 her leadership and skill are something else, the team really needed her to step up in that title game. 19-4 outshot? that's crazy! congrats to mahtomedi on their second straight state crown 🏆🎉

OMG 🤯 that girl Harlow Berger is a total legend! I mean, who else can make a goal-line save with a popped out shoulder? 😂 She's literally a superhero on the field 💪 And to top it off, she's got two goals for her team already this season - talk about dedication! 💕 The injury she sustained is so scary though 🤕 I hope she gets the best medical care and recovers quickly. But for now, let's celebrate Mahtomedi's amazing win 💥 They really earned that title with Berger's incredible performance 🔥

OMG what a goal 🤯 Elise Aflakpi's chip was insane!!! I'm literally shaking thinking about it 😂 And Harlow Berger, oh my goodness, that girl is a superhero 💪 I mean, two crucial saves with her shoulder FLYING OUT OF JOINT?!? Like, how does she do it?! 🤯 But honestly, it's all part of being an amazing goalkeeper, and Harlow proved that today. Can't wait to see what the future holds for her 😊

What a game! 😱 I was on the edge of my seat when Elise Aflakpi scored that amazing chip 🎯. I mean, who makes a goal like that? And Harlow Berger, wow, she's a hero 💪... I wish she didn't get hurt, though. That shoulder injury looks nasty 🤕. I've been saying it since my youth days, but a goal-line save is the most clutch thing in sports. You gotta be willing to put your body on the line like that, and Berger did just that ❤️. Blake was outplayed all game, so they can't take away from Mahtomedi's win 😊. Great job to both teams for an epic match! 👏

I'm so impressed by Harlow Berger's selflessness & skill on the field 🙌! I mean, she could've easily stopped playing and prioritized her own health, but instead she kept it going for her team, making those crucial saves even after feeling her shoulder pop out of joint 😲. That's true leadership & dedication right there 💪. And can we talk about Elise Aflakpi's goal? 🤩 That chip over the goalie was pure magic ✨! The fact that Blake got outshot 19-4 and still managed to lose is just a testament to Mahtomedi's strong team dynamic 👫. As for Berger, I hope she gets the rest & recovery she needs – winning a state crown is amazing, but taking care of your body is even more important 🤗.

OMG what a game 😱🏀 I was on the edge of my seat when Harlow made that insane save! My grandma still can't believe the Eagles won without scoring 2 goals lol 😂. And wow, Elise's chip goal was like something out of a movie 🎬. Can you even imagine if they hadn't had Berger in goal? The crowd would've gone wild! 💥👏 I'm low-key worried about her shoulder though 🤕 hope she gets the treatment and recovers soon 💪

Wow 😍🏆 she's literally a goal-line wonder lol what would've happened if she didn't make those saves? Interesting how the other team just couldn't score even with like 19 shots on goal 🤯

I'm dyin' over here ! 😂 That Berger is a lifesaver (or should I say goalkeeper? 🤣) and a total rockstar! She single-handedly turned that title game around for Mahtomedi, even when she was clearly hurt.

Her injury could've been the end of the game for Mahtomedi, but instead she just kept on truckin' (or should I say, keep on goalkeeper-ing? 🤣). The saves, oh man!

I think it's awesome that her teammates were able to spot the severity of her injury and take over when she needed a break. And Blake coach Jocelyn Keller was super gracious in defeat – I love how she said "Soccer's an unfortunate game..." 🙏

Mahtomedi's Elise Aflakpi scored that winning goal in style, and it was totally deserved. The crowd must've gone wild! 🎉

Yaaas, congrats to Mahtomedi on winning that title game 🎉! Harlow Berger is literally a hero 💪 - I mean, 2 crucial saves with her shoulder feeling loose? That takes guts 😅. But seriously, her leadership and skill are what made all the difference. I'm just glad she's okay, though - that shoulder injury sounds brutal 🤕. Elise Aflakpi's chip goal was insane! 🔥 Still a bit surprised Blake didn't capitalize on their shots advantage... but I guess that's soccer 😅. Can't wait to see what Mahtomedi does next season, hopefully with less injuries 💕.

oh my gosh 🤯 this is insane! harlow berger is literally a goal-line superhero 🦸‍♀️ i mean what kind of person continues to play with a shoulder injury like that? i'm so impressed by her bravery and skill on the field, but now she's gonna have to deal with some serious recovery time 💉 hopefully she can get it together for next season or else she'll be watching from the sidelines 🤕

😱 12 saves from Harlow Berger? That's insane! I'm still trying to process how she managed to make those incredible stops with a popped-out shoulder 🤕. The kid is a total hero for keeping her team in the game when she was clearly hurt. Blake got outplayed and outshot, but they just couldn't capitalize on their chances... it's always tough losing like that 💔. I'm glad Elise Aflakpi scored that beautiful winning goal, too! 😍 Mahtomedi's team deserved this win after dominating the field 🎉. Berger might be done for the season now, but she'll always have this moment to look back on 💕.

OMG, that girl Harlow Berger is a total legend 🤩! She single-handedly won that game and saved her team from an epic collapse 💪. I mean, two dozen saves? That's crazy talk! 🙌 And to think she was like "you know what, I'm good" with that shoulder injury 😂... girl, you're a total warrior 💥. I gotta give it up for Mahtomedi's team too, they played solid defense and outshot Blake by 19-4? That's a huge difference 📊. But seriously, Berger is the real MVP of this game 🏆. Can't wait to see what's next for her... but for now, let's just bask in the glory of that stunning save 🤸‍♀️💫.

man... that Berger, she's like a superhero on the field 🤩 but at what cost tho? i mean, she's literally putting her body on the line every time she steps onto the pitch and it's just so heartbreaking to think about all the injuries she could be suffering now. and yeah, Mahtomedi's team was way outplayed in terms of shots on goal, but their defense is like... impenetrable 🤯 and Berger's the reason why.

it's funny, people are always saying how good it is for kids to push themselves and take risks, but what about the risks they're taking with their own bodies? shouldn't we be teaching them that sometimes it's okay to say no, you know? like, Berger could've just sat out if she was feeling that pop in her shoulder 🤕 but she chose to play because... i don't know, maybe she felt like she had a responsibility to her team?

anyway, congrats to Mahtomedi on their title win and all 🎉, but can we please have a conversation about the value of injury prevention in sports? 🤔

🤯 I'm still reeling from that insane game! Harlow Berger is literally a superhero 🦸‍♀️ - she plays the most clutch goalie and then suffers an injury that could've ended her career but she just kept going 💪. 12 saves in one game? That's wild! And to think Elise Aflakpi scores the winner with this epic chip... I'm shaking my head in awe 😲. The Eagles' defense was solid, no doubt thanks to Berger's heroics. She's definitely a top candidate for MVP 🏆... but now we have to wonder if she'll be able to play again soon? Fingers crossed for her injury recovery 💕!

OMG 🤯🏆 she played like a total legend out there!!! I mean, that shoulder injury could've been so bad, but she just kept going and saved her team's bacon 💪! Elise Aflakpi's goal was insane though - that chip over the keeper is still giving me goosebumps 🤩. And can we talk about Harlow Berger's leadership? She's literally the heart of that team ❤️. I'm so stoked for Mahtomedi, but at the same time, I'm worried about Harlow's future... she's got a lot to live up to after this performance 🤞!
