Call Your Mother to Open Fishtown Shop this Spring
A new chapter is about to unfold in the Philadelphia food scene as D.C.-based bagel chain Call Your Mother gears up to open its first shop in Pennsylvania. Co-owner Andrew Dana has announced that the Fishtown location will debut sometime this spring or summer, pending permitting.
For Dana and co-owner/chef Daniela Moreira, who launched the company at farmers markets in Washington D.C. back in 2018, opening a shop in Philadelphia is a dream come true. The couple drew inspiration from their diverse backgrounds – Dana's Jewish heritage and Moreira's upbringing in Argentina – to create a unique bagel style that falls between traditional New York-style bagels and the sweeter variety found in Montreal.
Their menu promises an array of creative options, including various smears, proteins, and toppings, as well as a selection of coffee and sandwiches. To round out their offerings, they'll also be selling a pretzel bagel – a perfect fit for Philly's eclectic food scene.
As Dana and Moreira excitedly shared the news on Instagram, they paid tribute to local institutions like Allen Iverson and Rocky, as well as Dana's hometown hero – his mother from Mount Airy. The anticipation is building, with another shop currently in the works in Chicago's Wicker Park neighborhood.
