Philadelphia is about to get its hands on another popular bagel joint as Call Your Mother, the D.C.-based chain, sets its sights on Fishtown. The company plans to open its first Pennsylvania location in the spring or summer, pending permitting.
Co-owner Andrew Dana revealed this news in an Instagram video, marking a significant milestone for the expanding carb empire. Call Your Mother will be the eighth location under the company's belt, with storefronts already established in Maryland, Virginia, Colorado, and Chicago's Wicker Park neighborhood on the horizon.
For Dana and co-owner/chef Daniela Moreira, the decision to expand to Pennsylvania was a natural fit. The couple launched Call Your Mother at farmers markets in Washington D.C. back in 2018, drawing inspiration from their family backgrounds β Dana's Jewish heritage and Moreira's Argentine upbringing. Their bagels are said to be somewhere between New York-style and the sweeter variety found in Montreal.
To give fans a taste of Philly pride, Dana and Moreira name-dropped local institutions like Allen Iverson, Rocky, and even Dana's hometown mother in their announcement. To wrap up the video, chef Moreira even rang out with the iconic "Rocky" bell to signal the impending arrival of Call Your Mother.
The Fishtown location promises an exciting experience for customers, offering a variety of spreads, proteins, toppings, coffee, sandwiches, and yes β even pretzel bagels. With Call Your Mother on board, residents will have another reason to get their day started with a delicious twist.
