Disney+ has announced that it will be premiering "Darth Maul's standalone series, 'Star Wars: Maul - Shadow Lord,' exclusively on its platform starting April 6, 2026. This new animated spin-off is based on a teaser trailer released by Lucasfilm and marks the latest iteration of the beloved Sith Lord.
As reported by Disney, "Maul - Shadow Lord" will follow Darth Maul's journey to rebuild his notorious syndicate in a secluded location untouched by Imperial control. He comes into contact with an disillusioned young Jedi Padawan who becomes his potential apprentice and aid in his relentless pursuit for revenge.
The 10-episode series, created by Dave Filoni, the mastermind behind "The Clone Wars," is set to premiere on April 6, with two episodes released at launch. The remaining eight episodes will be released weekly through May 6. This new venture falls under Filoni's tenure as President and Chief Creative Officer of Lucasfilm.
Fans have been eagerly awaiting a direction for the Star Wars franchise since Disney and Lucasfilm concluded their sequel trilogy in 2019. In recent years, the studio has struggled to establish consistency with new projects, TV shows getting canceled, or delayed releases. However, "Maul - Shadow Lord" might finally provide some much-needed momentum.
Notably, two other Star Wars series are set for release this year. Disney+ will premiere "The Mandalorian and Grogu" on May 22, 2026, followed by the Shawn Levy-directed film "Star Wars: Starfighter," which is scheduled to hit theaters in 2027, marking the first new Star Wars movie after a seven-year gap.
