$115 per week is kinda low lol imagine having to pay 20 bucks for grapes or 24 bucks for watermelon slices and still have nothing left for food. its like australia is tryna make them go hungry on purpose. and then they gotta risk gettin caught workin unlawfully at petrol stations or construction sites just to survive thats a heavy price to pay

Ugh I cant believe this $115 a week isnt even enough for basic needs on Nauru its like they expect people to survive on air they need money to buy food, internet, and other essentials but the stipend is barely enough its like the gov is trying to punish them for seeking help some ppl are literally going hungry because of it and then theres the risk of being caught and deported thats not a solution to the problem at all

Working unlawfully on Nauru isn't the solution, it puts people at risk of getting caught & deported. The problem here is that Australia's policy doesn't allow asylum seekers to work and their stipend just doesn't cut it.
The cost of living in Nauru is ridiculous! A bag of grapes is like $20 & a watermelon costs $24 for a quarter slice? It's no wonder people are struggling.
If the government can't help them financially, they need to make sure these asylum seekers have access to food that won't break the bank. The fact that some are going hungry because of it is heartbreaking
We need to look at this from a different perspective - what if we gave these people a chance to work and earn their own money? Not only would it help them survive, but also give them a sense of purpose & belonging
The non-refoulement obligation imposed by the refugees convention is clear: don't return refugees to places where they'll face harm. Let's make sure our policies reflect that!
