Democrats investigating Epstein decry Andrew 'silence' over interview request

"Former Prince Andrew Under Fire for Ignoring Congressional Subpoena Amid Growing Pressure Over Epstein Ties"

Democratic lawmakers on the House oversight committee are slamming former British prince Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor for his "silence" in response to their request for a deposition, citing the "serious questions" he must answer about his involvement with disgraced financier Jeffrey Epstein.

The two Democrats, Robert Garcia and Suhas Subramanyam, issued a statement Friday after setting a deadline for Andrew's response. They accused him of trying to "hide" from accountability despite the mounting evidence against him.

Garcia stated that their work will continue without Andrew, adding, "We will hold anyone who was involved in these crimes accountable, no matter their wealth, status, or political party. We will get justice for the survivors."

The committee has already obtained documents from Epstein's estate and testimony from abuse survivor Virginia Giuffre, raising concerns about the prince's involvement in the sex-trafficking charges.

However, Democrats face a challenge in compelling Andrew to testify due to their minority status on the committee, which lacks the power to issue subpoenas. The Republican chair James Comer has not commented on whether he would take such action against the former prince.

Critics argue that Andrew could avoid potential legal penalties by avoiding the United States if one were issued. This comes as a law passed by Donald Trump's administration aims to increase transparency around Epstein's case, but includes exemptions for sensitive information that could jeopardize investigations.

The justice department has turned over 33,000 documents in response to the committee's subpoena, including interview transcripts and court documents. However, many of these documents were already publicly available.

As the investigation continues, there are concerns about the president's motives behind his involvement with Epstein, who was a friend of Trump's during his presidency. The law passed by Congress includes provisions allowing the justice department to protect sensitive information, leading to accusations that President Trump is trying to shield himself and his allies from accountability.

Garcia has stated that "politically motivated investigations are not a legitimate justification for withholding or redacting records" under the new law, while also noting that the committee's subpoena should be able to share all relevant documents with lawmakers.

I think it's a bit harsh on Andrew, you know? He's already taken a lot of heat over this Epstein thing and now he's being dragged back in. I mean, can't people just give him a break? πŸ€·β€β™‚οΈ He's not trying to hide anything, he's just waiting for the right moment to cooperate. And let's be real, his lawyers are probably getting killed by all these subpoenas. Can't they just have a chat with the Republicans on the committee and come to some sort of understanding? πŸ€” I mean, we're living in an age where people can just walk away from their problems and start fresh somewhere else. Andrew's not alone in this, lots of rich folks do it all the time. Why should he be the one held to a different standard? πŸ’Έ

I think it's pretty messed up that Prince Andrew is basically ignoring this congressional subpoena 🀯. I mean, we already know he was friends with Epstein and there are some serious questions about his involvement in all those sex trafficking charges. It's like he thinks he's above the law just because of who his dad is πŸ‘‘.

But what really gets me is that there are people out there trying to shield him from accountability πŸ€₯. Like, if you're involved in something shady, why try to hide it? And with all these documents coming out about Epstein's estate and Virginia Giuffre's testimony, it's like they're just trying to sweep everything under the rug πŸ’Έ.

I'm not sure what's going on behind the scenes, but I do know that lawmakers need to keep pushing for answers πŸ—£οΈ. We can't just let people with power and influence avoid accountability because it might make them uncomfortable πŸ˜’. The justice department is already handing over a bunch of documents, so I hope they're sharing all the relevant info with Congress πŸ‘€.

come on, this is just another case of rich people trying to avoid accountability πŸ™„, i mean, i'm sure prince andrew has nothing to hide but we already know he was buddies with epstein and now he's dodging a congressional hearing πŸ‘€, it's not like this is the first time someone in his circle has gotten caught up in a scandal. and what's with all these exemptions for sensitive info? sounds like trump's trying to cover his own tracks πŸ€₯, i'm just waiting to see how this whole thing plays out...

I'm so concerned about this guy Andrew, I mean what's he hiding? The fact that his team is trying to avoid accountability is wild 🀯. As a normal person, I would want to know the truth about his involvement with Epstein and how it affects him today. And let's be real, if Trump's administration is shielding him from justice, that's just shady πŸ™…β€β™‚οΈ. It's not like Andrew is just some random guy, he's a member of royalty for crying out loud! The committee should keep pushing for answers, and I hope they don't give up on this investigation πŸ’ͺ

I gotta say, this whole thing with Prince Andrew is getting super complicated πŸ’ΈπŸ’•. I feel bad for the Epstein survivors who are still dealing with trauma from those heinous crimes πŸ€•. On the other hand, I think it's crazy how some people try to hide behind power and wealth – like, come on, accountability is key! πŸ˜‚

I mean, imagine if we didn't have laws that protect our rights as citizens? It'd be super scary 😨. The fact that there are 33,000 documents in the mix just adds to the mystery πŸ“. I'm curious to see how it all plays out – maybe this will lead to some real change and transparency? 🌞

It's also interesting to note that even with all these twists and turns, we can still talk about justice and accountability πŸ’ͺ. The lawmakers are right; no one is above the law, not even royalty πŸ‘‘!

This is gonna get ugly... Prince Andrew thinks he can just ignore everyone and hope it goes away? πŸ™„ The Democrats are right to keep pushing for answers, but come on, a royal trying to hide from accountability? That's rich. And what's up with the Republicans not taking action? Are they too afraid of the guy's connections or something?

And don't even get me started on Trump's motives... is he really trying to protect himself and his buddies, or is it just a big cover-up? πŸ€₯ 33,000 documents and still nothing concrete coming out. I swear, these rich and powerful people always seem to find a way to wriggle out of trouble.

The fact that they're trying to shield sensitive info from investigators is just suspicious. What are they hiding, huh? 😏 The truth is gonna come out eventually, but until then, it's all about who has the power to keep it under wraps. This investigation needs to get to the bottom of things ASAP... or else. ⚠️

Ugh, this is getting out of hand! 🀯 The guy thinks he can just waltz in and out of accountability because he's a prince? πŸ™„ I mean, come on, if you've got nothing to hide, why not just answer the questions?! It's like he's trying to play some kinda game of "I'm above the law" πŸ€‘. And what really gets my goat is that the Democrats are being all noble and stuff about wanting justice for the survivors, but at the same time, they're stuck with a minority on their committee and can't even get him to testify 🀯. It's like, just make the dude talk already! 😩

I'm really getting frustrated with this situation... 🀬 Like, come on Andrew, can't you just answer some questions? It's not like you're above the law or anything! And what's with all the drama and backroom deals going on here? It feels like everyone's trying to hide something. I mean, I get that there are laws in place to protect people's privacy, but when it comes to serious crimes like sex trafficking, can't we just have some transparency? 🀝 The fact that they're threatening to move Andrew out of the country if he doesn't cooperate is just ridiculous... like, isn't that exactly what Epstein was trying to do? Avoid accountability and get away with his crimes? No way! We need more people in power who are willing to stand up for justice, not try to sweep it under the rug. πŸ’ͺ

I don't know if I agree that Andrew is being completely quiet about this whole thing πŸ€”... like, I think he's probably just trying to avoid a public scandal, but at the same time, he might also be worried about getting in trouble and losing his royal perks πŸ˜…. And honestly, I'm not sure if it's fair to call him "silent" since we don't even know what's going through his mind right now πŸ€·β€β™‚οΈ... maybe he's just trying to take care of some personal stuff before jumping into the public eye again? It's all pretty confusing, you know?

idk why ppl think epstein was just one bad apple πŸ€”. this is all about cover ups & powerful ppl trying to avoid accountability πŸ€‘. andrew's just delaying the inevitable πŸ’β€β™‚οΈ. if he had nothing to hide, why not cooperate? πŸ€·β€β™‚οΈ meanwhile, trump's playing it safe behind his new law 🚫. guess we'll just have to wait & see how this all unfolds πŸ•°οΈ. one thing for sure is that justice won't be served quickly enough πŸ˜’

its wild how prince andrew isnt makin any effort 2 answer these serious questions 🀯 like isnt he worried about his rep? he could avoid the us if hes thats scared of goin down but idk if that would protect him from the long term damage 2 his public image πŸ“Ί anyway i think its sus how trump's admin is tryna shield himself & allies from accountability thru this law πŸ€”

omg this is getting super messy 🀯 i'm genuinely concerned about Andrew's involvement with Epstein it's like he thinks he's above the law just because of his royal title but seriously though the fact that the justice department has already turned over 33k docs and still can't share them with lawmakers is wild πŸ˜’ my gut tells me there's more to this story than we know so far

I'm really worried about how Prince Andrew is handling this whole thing πŸ€•. It seems like he's trying to avoid accountability and it's just not cool. I mean, we all know that justice needs to be served for the victims of Jeffrey Epstein's abuse. The fact that he's ignoring a congressional subpoena is super concerning and it shows that he's more worried about his reputation than doing what's right.

I'm also curious to see how this whole thing plays out with President Trump involved πŸ€”. It feels like there's some shady stuff going on and I hope the committee can get to the bottom of it. We need to make sure that everyone is held accountable, no matter who they are or where they come from πŸ’ͺ.

πŸ€” this is getting crazy, if Andrew thinks he can just ignore a congressional subpoena and people will let it slide... 🚫 newsflash, congressman don't get power from ignoring you, you gotta earn it πŸ‘Š and what's really going on here? Is Trump's admin trying to shield his own friends from accountability or what? πŸ€·β€β™‚οΈ the more I think about it, the less I trust this whole investigation πŸ˜’ and another thing, why are we only getting half the story? πŸ“° where are all these 33k documents? can't we just see them all? πŸ“

πŸ€” I'm just saying, if this is about holding people accountable, why do we need a special law to shield Trump and his pals from scrutiny? πŸ€‘ It feels like more politics than justice. I mean, Andrew dodges his responsibilities as a public figure, and now he's trying to hide behind the system? πŸ˜’ The fact that they're having to go around the president just to get answers is messed up. What's next, are we gonna have special exemptions for royal friends too? 🚫

I'M SO FED UP WITH PRINCE ANDREW RIGHT NOW!!! HE THOUGHT HE COULD JUST WALK AWAY FROM ALL THESE QUESTIONS ABOUT HIS TIES TO EPISTEIN?! GROWING PRESSURE IS ONE THING, BUT IGNORING A CONGRESSIONAL SUBPOENA IS COMPLETELY OUT OF LINE!!! IT'S LIKE HE THINKS HE'S ABOVE THE LAW OR SOMETHING 🀯. DEMOCRATS ARE RIGHT TO STAND UP FOR THESE SURVIVORS AND HOLD PEOPLE LIKE ANDREW ACCOUNTABLE FOR THEIR ACTIONS, NO MATTER WHAT THEIR WEALTH OR STATUS IS πŸ’ͺ. IT'S TIME FOR HIM TO TALK AND EXPLAIN HIS INVOLVEMENT IN ALL OF THIS!!!

I'm tellin' ya, somethin' fishy is goin' on here πŸ€”... Prince Andrew tryna dodge a bullet, but it's like he thinks we're all sleepin' 😴. I mean, what's the real reason he's not talkin'? Is it 'cause he knows somethin' he don't wanna share? πŸ€·β€β™‚οΈ It's like, he's got connections, man... Epstein, Trump, they're all connected somehow πŸ”—. And now, the committee's gettin' all these documents and testimony, but Andrew's just chillin'? πŸ™„ I don't trust this one bit... it smells like a cover-up to me πŸ‘€. We need more transparency, not less! Transparency is key! πŸ’‘

Ugh I'm low-key surprised this guy hasn't been called in by now πŸ™„ His lack of response is super suspicious and it's basically a slap in the face to the Epstein survivors who are still seeking justice 🀬 The whole thing around his friendship with Trump is also getting weirder by the minute - what was their connection again? πŸ€” Anyway, I think this whole situation highlights the huge imbalance in power when it comes to accountability and wealth πŸ’Έ If he thinks he can just avoid testifying because of his status, he's sadly misinformed. We need more transparency and fewer fancy lawyers πŸ‘Ž

🚨 Prince Andrew is literally dodging responsibility πŸ€₯ and it's getting embarrassing! I mean, come on, he's got a bunch of skeletons in his closet and he's trying to hide behind some fancy lawyer mumbo-jumbo? Not buying it πŸ’β€β™€οΈ. The truth is out there, even if it's not in a deposition πŸ“. And let's be real, the fact that Democrats are having to fight for transparency is wild 🀯. It's like, we get it, you're rich and influential, but that doesn't mean you get to above the law 🚫.

I'm loving how Virginia Giuffre is speaking out and demanding justice πŸ’ͺ. That girl has been through hell and back, and she deserves better than some stuffy prince trying to sweep his crimes under the rug πŸ›‹οΈ. The justice department should be all over this like white on rice 🍚. And as for Trump's motives? Um, yeah, I'm calling foul πŸ€₯. It's time to bring the heat and make those in power accountable πŸ”₯.
