Detroit’s enormous American flag vanishes day after its big reveal - Detroit Metro Times

omg i just can't believe that huge american flag went down so fast! 🤯 like, i get that strong winds are no joke, but still it feels like such an iconic landmark got uprooted in literally one day 🌪️ u think its gonna be back up by vets day tho? 🎉 maybe we'll just have to keep an eye on the weather forecast and hope for a clear ride 👀

😂 I'm literally living for this news! Did you see those stats on the flag's history? It's been around since 1923 📆! The original one was like, 230 feet long and 90 feet high! 🤯 No wonder it's still an iconic symbol of Detroit's patriotism. And now they've got a new one that's almost as massive (141x85 ft is huge!) 😲 But I gotta ask, have you seen the wind speeds in Detroit? 10-20 mph? That's some serious gusts! 🌬️ Glad it was safe to take down the flag though. Can't wait for it to go back up on Thursday. By the way, did you know that over 1 million people visited the Detroit Institute of Arts last year? 📊

Ugh, can you believe that thing lasted only one day? 🤦‍♂️ I mean, I get it, strong winds are no joke, but still... 10-20 mph? That's not exactly gusty weather, guys! 😅 According to the National Weather Service, Detroit had an average of 6.3 tornadoes per year from 2010 to 2020, so that wind speed is pretty tame.

By the way, have you seen those stats on flag-related visits to Detroit? 🤔 The city got a whopping 2.5 million visitors in 2022 alone! That's like, a whole lotta patriots, am I right?

Let's look at this, though: since 1923, Detroit has been flying the largest hanging U.S. flag in the country, with an average annual maintenance cost of around $150,000 🤑. Considering all those visitors, it's pretty cool that they're willing to shell out that kinda cash for some good ol' American pride.

Here are some fun stats on flag-related tourism:

* 75% of visitors take at least one photo with the flag
* Average time spent in front of the flag: 3.2 minutes 🕰️
* Top source of visitors: international tourists from Canada and Mexico

Anyway, I guess we'll just have to wait a bit longer for that flag to fly high again... 😊

Ugh, I feel bad for that giant American flag 🤕. One day it's up, next it's gone because of some wind issues 😂. Can you even imagine having to take down a 141ft flag just 'cause the weather is being weird? But, on the bright side, it'll be back up soon (fingers crossed) and it's still gonna look super epic when it is 🤩. I love how Detroit celebrates its history of patriotism - it's so cool that this tradition has been going on for over 90 years! 💕
