Disney+ is launching vertical videos this year

Disney+ is set to revamp its content strategy with a major new twist: vertical videos. The streaming giant has announced plans to integrate the format into its service in the US later this year, in an effort to boost daily engagement from its users.

This move comes as part of a broader attempt by Disney+ to adapt to changing viewer habits. According to Erin Teague, EVP of Product Management at Disney Entertainment, vertical video will be used for a wide range of content, including original short-form programming and even movie and series teasers.

But unlike traditional teaser trailers, which often feel like afterthoughts tacked onto longer-form content, Disney+ plans to integrate vertical videos into the very fabric of its service. The goal is to create an immersive experience that feels native to user behavior, rather than a disjointed addition.

Disney's target audience for this new format appears to be Gen Z and Gen Alpha users, who are increasingly accustomed to consuming short-form content on their phones. By incorporating vertical videos into its app, Disney+ aims to make the service feel like a must-visit destination, with users checking in daily to discover new content.

Teague emphasized that the experience will evolve over time, expanding across various news and entertainment domains and being personalized for individual users. This personalized approach is designed to keep users engaged, as it leverages their existing familiarity with the app to encourage further exploration and watching of Disney+ programming.

πŸ€” So I think this is a pretty interesting move by Disney+. Vertical videos could be a great way to increase engagement on their platform, especially with Gen Z and Alpha users who are all about short-form content on their phones. But we need to see how it plays out in practice - are they just gonna force-feed us a bunch of vertical vids or are they actually gonna give us some quality stuff? 😐 And what's up with this personalized approach? Are they gonna use our viewing history and stuff to push ads at us even more? πŸ€·β€β™€οΈ

πŸ€” so they're gonna make vertical vids a thing on disney+ now? like, I'm not sure if I love it or hate it... sounds kinda cool tho? πŸ“± gen z & alphas already use their phones for all the vids anyway so it's pretty logical. but omg can u imagine watching disney teasers in vertical mode? lol, it might be a bit weird at first πŸ˜‚. and i'm curious about how they're gonna make it feel immersive tho... like, how are they gonna do that? πŸ€” will it just be all short-form vids or what?

I'm low-key hyped about dis new vertical vid thingy on Disney+. Like, who doesn't love scrolling thru their fave shows & vids all day? It's def genius 2 incorporate it into the service like dat. They're tryna cater 2 the younger gens (Gen Z & Alpha) who are all about short-form content on their phones. I can totes see how dis could b a game-changer for Disney+. The fact that they're makin it personalized 4 each user is genius. It's like, tailor-made 4 u! πŸ’‘πŸ“Ί I'm excited 2 see how dis plays out & what kinda vids they have in store πŸ€”

this whole vertical video thing got me thinking... like what does it really mean to be engaged with a service? are we just scrolling through our feeds for the sake of scrolling or is there something more at play? i feel like disney's trying to tap into this innate human desire for discovery and exploration, you know? and by doing so, they're not just adapting to changing viewer habits, but also acknowledging that our attention spans are getting shorter by the day πŸ“ΊπŸ‘€

idk why they're making a big deal about vertical vids on disney+ πŸ€”, like who doesn't already scroll thru tiktok or instagram? but i guess its cool that they wanna adapt to the new norm & make it feel more immersive for gen z & alpha users πŸ‘, and personalized content is def a plus if you ask me! πŸ’» maybe its time for disney+ to step up their game & become more than just a pretty face πŸ“Ί

Disney's trying to hop on the vertical video trend lol... makes sense though, Gen Z & Alpha are glued to their phones, so why not play to that? πŸ“± But seriously, they're thinking outside the box (or screen) by making it a core part of their service instead of just tacking on as an afterthought. I'm curious to see how this plays out, especially with personalized content - can't wait to see what kind of immersive experience they create! πŸŽ₯πŸ’»

Ugh, I'm so down for this vertical video thing πŸ“ΊπŸ‘€, but at the same time, can we just take a moment to appreciate how far we've come? Remember when you had to wait for a TV show or movie to be released before you could even see a promo clip? Now, we're already getting these bite-sized teasers and full-on vertical videos that are trying to hook us in 5 seconds flat? It's wild!

And I gotta say, Disney+ is on the right track with targeting Gen Z and Alpha users – those kids love their short-form content, and it's only natural that they'd be the first to adopt this new format. But, I'm curious to see how this whole personalized experience thing plays out... will we be bombarded with endless ads or tailored recommendations? Only time (and my Disney+ subscription) will tell πŸ€”πŸ’»

I mean, vertical videos on Disney+? It's kinda like they're trying to be TikTok, but for old people who still use a TV πŸ“Ί. I get it, the younger crowd loves that stuff, but what about us old folks? Are we gonna have to watch Mickey Mouse in 9-second clips now too? πŸ˜‚

But seriously, I do see where they're coming from. We need to adapt to changing viewer habits, and if that means incorporating more short-form content into our service, then so be it. Just don't expect me to start watching all the vertical videos on my phone before bed... that's just not gonna happen 😴.

I hope they do make this format feel immersive and native to the Disney+ app, though. That would be awesome. Maybe they'll even make some of those short-form programs actually good 🀞. Fingers crossed! πŸ‘

πŸ€” I think this is a game-changer for Disney+. They're finally listening to what we want - short-form content that's easy to digest on our phones πŸ“±. Vertical videos are where it's at, and I love how they're planning to integrate them into the service from the ground up. No more weirdly-shaped trailers ruining the vibe of a movie teaser! πŸ˜‚ It's all about making the experience feel native to user behavior, you know? And with personalized content and daily drops, I can already imagine myself checking in to see what new stuff is coming out each day πŸŽ‰. The target audience seems spot on too - Gen Z and Alpha users are where it's at when it comes to short-form content. Fingers crossed this is just the beginning of some amazing changes for Disney+! πŸ‘

I'm not sure if I love or hate this idea... πŸ˜‚ Vertical videos on Disney+ could be a total game-changer for the service. As we all know, Gen Z and Alpha users are glued to their screens 24/7 and are super into short-form content. By catering to that, Disney+ is trying to create an immersive experience that'll keep users hooked daily.

But, at the same time, I'm worried it might be too much of a gimmick... πŸ€” How will they balance this new format with their existing content? And what about users who prefer watching longer-form shows and movies? Will Disney+ risk alienating its older audience in pursuit of a younger demographic?

Still, kudos to them for trying something fresh! If done right, vertical videos could take Disney+ to the next level. Can't wait to see how this experiment plays out πŸ€”πŸ‘€
