Disney is set to unveil a vertical video feed in its popular streaming service, Disney Plus, later this year. According to Erin Teague, the company's EVP of product management for Disney Entertainment and ESPN, vertical video will allow users to access "original short-form programming, repurposed social clips, refashioned scenes from longer-form episodic or feature titles, or a combination" in one unified app.
This new format aims to bring together various types of content into one dynamic feed that refreshes in real-time based on the user's last visit. The vertical video tab will cater to users who want to watch short-form Disney content, as well as sports news, and entertainment.
The announcement comes after Disney recently added a similar feature called "Verts" to its overhauled ESPN app. Netflix has also been experimenting with vertical videos, featuring clips from their shows and movies.
The integration of this new feature is part of Disney's Global Tech & Data Showcase for advertisers at CES, where the company showcased various innovations in technology and data analysis for content creators.
