Duggan won’t say if Trump’s execution threats go too far - Detroit Metro Times

Detroit Mayor Mike Duggan dodged a question about President Donald Trump's threat to jail and execute political opponents during a recent TV appearance, leaving many to wonder where the would-be governor stands on the issue. The exchange came after Trump accused several Democratic lawmakers, including Michigan Senator Elissa Slotkin, of "seditious behavior" for releasing a video reminding military members they can refuse unlawful orders.

When asked about Trump's comments, Duggan said he had stayed out of national debates and refused to get involved in the controversy. He claimed that as mayor of Detroit, he focuses on local issues rather than national politics. However, many have questioned this stance, given the impact of federal policies on state-level issues.

Duggan's campaign has been courting support from both Democrats and Republicans, including Trump supporters. This coalition has raised millions of dollars for his campaign, but it remains to be seen how voters will react to his stance on a critical issue like Trump's rhetoric.

In contrast to his past criticism of the president, Duggan's silence on this matter has been notable. While he claims not to have changed his views, many believe that his refusal to condemn Trump's threats suggests he is either willing to tolerate the administration's behavior or has shifted his position on the issue.

The timing of the exchange was particularly striking, given the recent increase in threats against lawmakers and the alarming rhetoric from the president. Duggan's choice not to address this pressing concern left many wondering whether he truly understands where he stands on this critical issue.

Ultimately, voters may be left wondering if a governor who dodges questions about a presidential threat is someone they want to trust with state-level leadership. The real question in this campaign may not be Mike Duggan's party affiliation but his willingness to take a stand when it matters most.

I don’t usually comment but... I'm kinda surprised that Detroit Mayor Mike Duggan didn't speak up about Trump's threat to jail and execute political opponents 🤔. Given the state of politics right now, you'd think he'd want to take a stance on something so serious 😬. He says he's focused on local issues, but come on, that's not exactly a valid excuse when it comes to something as big as this 🙄. And now that we know how much money his campaign has raked in from Trump supporters... I don't know, man 🤑. It just feels like Duggan is playing both sides and trying to be friends with everyone at once 😒. We need someone who's gonna take a stand on the issues that matter, not just play it safe 👊.

OMG what's going on with Mike Duggan 🤔🙅‍♂️ I'm so confused about his stance on Trump's threats! He said he focuses on local issues, but like, isn't that just code for "I don't wanna rock the boat"? 🚣‍♂️ I need to know where he stands on this issue ASAP! Can someone please ask him again and get a straight answer? 😅

I'm low-key worried about Duggan's stance on this whole Trump thing... 🤔 He's been playing it safe, saying he focuses on local issues and doesn't get involved in national politics, but I feel like that's just code for "I don't want to rock the boat". Like, if you're running for governor, shouldn't you be willing to speak up about some major controversy? 🤷‍♂️ It's not like Trump's been subtle about his threats against lawmakers... or his stance on everything else for that matter. Duggan's campaign has been courting some serious Republicans, which is cool and all, but it also makes me wonder if he's gonna be a puppet of the state government if he gets in office. 🤫 I guess we'll just have to wait and see how voters react to this one... 🕰️

🤔 I'm kinda confused about Duggan's stance on this issue 🤷‍♂️. He's always been all about being neutral and focusing on local issues, which is cool and all 👍, but now that Trump's getting pretty heated with his comments, it feels like he's missing the point 🚫. Like, isn't this a national thing? 🌎 Duggan's campaign has been trying to appeal to both sides of the aisle, which is smart business-wise 💸, but when it comes down to it, doesn't that mean he's not taking a clear stand on what's right and wrong? 🤝

I'm reading this and I gotta say, it's like the old saying goes - you can't just stay out of trouble by ignoring it 😊. As a politician, you've got to be willing to have tough conversations and set boundaries. Duggan's dodging on Trump's threat is like letting the wolf at your door think they own the place 🐺. If he wants people to trust him as governor, he needs to take a stand on this one - not just for his supporters but for everyone who cares about democracy 💪. It's all about being brave enough to make the right call even when it's hard 💯.

man... i'm so tired of politicians playing both sides 🤔. duggan's trying to have it all - be seen as bipartisan, while still trying to appeal to trump fans 💸. but let's be real, this is a huge red flag 🔴. if he can't even address trump's threats, how's he gonna deal with the real issues in detroit? 🤷‍♂️ like, what about police brutality, or poverty rates? seems like duggan's more concerned with being popular than doing what's right 💯. and yeah, voters might be better off not knowing where they stand on this issue... just not worth taking a chance on someone who dodges tough questions 😒

omg u guys i was just watching that tv appearance and i'm literally shaking my head 🤯 detroit mayor mike duggan is literally dodging the question about trump's threat to jail & execute ppl who disagree with him? like what even is he gonna do on day one if hes a gov? 🤷‍♂️ idk man i thought he was trying to run as a dem but now im just confused... does he really think that by not commenting on this he'll be all like the "stable governor" who can unite ppl? 🙄 meanwhile trump supporters are probably just gonna love his silence on this one lol 💸

I'm lowkey worried bout Mike Duggans stance on this Trump thing 🤔. Like, if he's courting support from both sides, that means he's not takin a clear stand on what's right & wrong. As governor, he needs 2 be all about the people of Detroit, not just tryna get reelected 💸. It's like, what happens when the president is bein all aggressive & threatenin folks? Shouldn't our gov reps be speakin out against that?! 🗣️ Duggan's silence is kinda deafening, imo 😒. Can we pls expect more from him on this one?!

🤔 thinkinboutthisone ... Duggans stance on Trumps threats got me wonderin if its about playin both sides or just avoidin the hard conversation 🤑 politicians love to take in campaign cash from all sides but at what cost? 💸 is Duggan really just focusin on local issues or is he tryna stay relevant? 🗺️ and honestly, voters deserve better than a governor who dodges tough questions 🤐 its about standin up for whats right even when its unpopular 🌟

I think its kinda awesome that Michigans gov hopeful, Duggan, is trying to keep the focus on local issues instead of getting caught up in all the drama surrounding Trump. I mean, he's right, as mayor of Detroit, he has his hands full with the city's problems, like poverty and crime rates 😕. But at the same time, its hard not to wonder where he really stands on this whole Trump thing. It would've been nice if he'd at least expressed some concern about the threats against lawmakers... but I guess you can't win 'em all 🤷‍♂️. Still, Duggan's campaign has brought in a lot of cash from both sides of the aisle, so maybe that'll get him more votes 😊. Either way, I think its good to see politicians focusing on what really matters – like fixing our communities and making life better for everyday people 💪.

🤔 This whole thing just has me shaking my head... like, what's the deal with Duggan? He's been all about courting support from both sides of the aisle, and now he dodges this huge question about Trump's threats to jail people for disagreeing with him. I mean, come on, if you're running for governor, shouldn't you be taking a stand on something like this? It's not just about local issues, it's about what kind of leadership someone wants to have in the state. And now that Duggan has shown he's willing to let politics get in the way of doing what's right, I'm wondering if he's really got what it takes to be a governor who puts the people first.

I know some might say he's just trying to appeal to a broad audience and not ruffle any feathers, but honestly, that's just a cop-out. If you're running for office, you need to be willing to take a stand on tough issues like this. Otherwise, what's going to make you different from the next person who's also trying to appeal to everyone? It's time for Duggan to show us what he really believes in and where his values lie.

It's not just about Trump or the president's rhetoric, it's about the kind of leadership we want in our state government. And right now, I'm just not seeing that from Duggan. 🤷‍♂️

Ugh, come on 🙄! Duggan is trying to play both sides like a pro 🤹‍♂️, but really, he's just dodging the question ⚔️. I mean, what kind of politician avoids talking about this kinda stuff? 😒 His "I focus on local issues" excuse is weak sauce ❄️ - it's not like he can completely separate himself from national politics 🌎. And don't even get me started on his campaign raking in cash from Trump supporters 💸... that just makes my blood boil 🔥! As a voter, you want someone who'll stand up for what's right, even if it means going against the popular crowd 👊. So far, Duggan is giving me major doubts about his leadership abilities 🤔.

😒 oh man i'm so frustrated with detroit mayor mike duggan right now he dodged a question on trump's threat to jail and execute ppl who disagree with him like what even is that?? 🤯 and he just gives this bland answer about focusing on local issues like his mayoral duties are totally above national politics newsflash dude the impact of fed policies on state-level issues is REAL 💸

and don't even get me started on how much cash he's raking in from trump supporters it's like he's got a personal stake in ignoring this whole thing 🤑 i'm not saying he's definitely with trump but his silence on this matter is giving me major pause as a voter 👀 if he can't take a stand when the president is spewing this toxic rhetoric how can we trust him to make decisions for our state? 🤔
