Edgewater landmark to look even prettier in pink, thanks to a new paint job

The Edgewater Beach Apartments, a storied Chicago landmark since 1928, is getting a long-overdue facelift. For the first time in 25 years, the iconic 20-story Spanish Revival building's exterior is being repainted in its signature sunset pink hue.

Workers have been meticulously painting the southeast wing since April, and by spring 2026, they will complete the task for the other three wings. As a result, the newly painted sections now contrast sharply with the faded pink tones of the older wings, creating an interesting visual juxtaposition.

"It makes the old coating look almost brown," said Edgewater Beach Apartments Corp. President Joseph D. Ferrario. "It's just so dazzling." The fresh coat of paint not only revitalizes the building but also adheres better to its masonry surfaces due to a special measure of elasticity that resists expansion and contraction cycles caused by Chicago's unpredictable weather.

The Edgewater Beach Apartments has been a beloved landmark on Lake Shore Drive for nearly a century, boasting a Maltese Cross-like floor plan and serving as a stylish retreat for celebrities like Nat King Cole, Bette Davis, and Babe Ruth. The building's architectural firm, Marshall & Fox, envisioned it as a lifestyle destination where residents could live "as if they were on vacation."

In recent years, the Edgewater Beach Apartments has faced structural issues and required significant repairs. However, the ongoing repaint project aims to extend its lifespan by another 25 years.

Historically accurate sunset pink paint was sourced from a can left in the building's basement from a 1999 repainting, with consultants verifying that it matched the original 1928 color. The effort has been extensive, involving over 500 gallons of paint and between four to 16 workers depending on weather conditions.

As the project nears completion next month, Ferrario acknowledged its significance, stating, "This is a pretty substantial project for us, but it's something that needs to be done." By preserving this beloved landmark, Chicago will continue to enjoy an enduring piece of its architectural heritage.

๐Ÿ™๏ธ I'm so stoked to see the Edgewater Beach Apartments getting a facelift! It's crazy how much character and charm it still has after all these years. The sunset pink paint is everything โ€“ it adds this pop of color that makes the old coating look, like, totally new again ๐Ÿ˜. I mean, who wouldn't want to live in a building that's been around since 1928? It's like you're stepping into history or something ๐Ÿ•ฐ๏ธ. And can we talk about how awesome it is that they found the exact same paint from 1999? That's dedication to authenticity ๐Ÿ”ฅ!

So I guess it's about time Edgewater Beach Apartments got some TLC ๐Ÿค”. 25 years is a long time, and the pink hue is iconic, but I'm not sure if painting all the wings at once is the best idea... what if it's like that new Apple update where everything looks great for a sec but then you realize how cluttered it gets? ๐Ÿ˜‚ Also, 500 gallons of paint? That's wild. And yeah, extending its lifespan by another 25 years is a good thing, but I hope they don't forget to fix those structural issues next ๐Ÿคž

I'm loving the idea of giving Edgewater Beach Apartments a fresh new look ๐ŸŒ…๐Ÿ ... at the same time as the original pink paint is still so iconic and nostalgic ๐Ÿ˜Š. It's like they're saying, "Hey old girl, we've got you covered" โค๏ธ... now it just needs to address that foundation issues ASAP โš’๏ธ.

omg yaaas finally!!! the edgewater beach apartments are getting the makeover they deserve! i mean, 25 yrs is a looong time to go without a fresh coat of paint lol! it's like they say, you only get one first impression, and this building has been looking dull for far too long. can't wait to see those sunset pink hues shining bright again ๐ŸŒ…๐Ÿ

I gotta say, I'm not buying the whole 'revitalizing a 97-year-old building' vibe ๐Ÿค”. It's just another excuse for them to slap some fancy paint on it and call it good ๐Ÿ’ธ. And what's with the 'historic accuracy'? Like, who cares if they got the exact shade right from a can in the basement? ๐Ÿ˜‚ It's not like it's gonna make or break the building's structural integrity.

And don't even get me started on the environmental impact of all that paint ๐ŸŒŽ. I mean, what about the chemicals and stuff? Can we really just sweep those under the rug? ๐Ÿšฎ

It's just another example of our society valuing nostalgia over practicality ๐Ÿ•ฐ๏ธ. 'Oh, let's preserve this old building because it's got character'... Meanwhile, there are actual problems that need solving in this city ๐Ÿคทโ€โ™‚๏ธ.

Still, I guess it's cool that they're trying to save the thing ๐Ÿ˜Š. Just don't expect me to be celebrating with champagne and cake when it's done ๐ŸŽ‰.

OMG ๐Ÿคฉ the Edgewater Beach Apartments is getting a major facelift and I am LIVING for the sunset pink paint job! ๐ŸŒ… It's like they've brought back a piece of history ๐Ÿ˜. The contrast between old and new is giving me all the feels, it's so visually striking ๐Ÿ’ฅ. And can we talk about how much work went into finding that original 1999 paint can? Like, over 500 gallons of paint?! ๐Ÿคฏ That's dedication to preserving this iconic landmark! ๐Ÿ‘

I think it's fascinating how the Edgewater Beach Apartments' repaint project has brought new life to this iconic landmark ๐ŸŒ…. The way the fresh coat of paint stands out against the faded pink tones of the older wings creates a striking visual contrast that really highlights the building's unique character. It's also interesting to see how the special elasticity in the paint is specifically designed to withstand Chicago's unpredictable weather - it just goes to show how careful attention to detail can make all the difference in preserving historic buildings ๐Ÿ’ก.

The Edgewater Beach Apartments are getting a super sweet new look ๐ŸŒ…! I mean, 25 years without a fresh coat of paint is a big deal, and it's awesome that they're going for the classic sunset pink hue again. It's crazy how much of a difference a new paint job can make - the old areas look all faded and brown compared to the bright new pink. Plus, it's great that they're using historically accurate paint from 1999 to stay true to the original design ๐Ÿ™Œ. I'm loving the retro vibes and I hope this update helps extend the building's lifespan by another 25 years ๐Ÿ’ช

Wow ๐Ÿคฏ๐Ÿ™๏ธ The building was due for a refresh anyway, and now it looks like the whole city just got a pop of color ๐Ÿ˜Š. I love how they used paint from 1999 as a reference point - that's dedication to preserving history! ๐Ÿ’• Also, I can see how the new paint would make the old parts look, well, old ๐Ÿคฃ. It's great that it'll last another 25 years and keep its special vibe going ๐ŸŒ…๐Ÿ

Man I'm so hyped about the Edgewater Beach Apartments' repaint project ๐ŸŽ‰๐ŸŒ…! It's amazing to see a piece of Chicago history get some much-needed TLC after 25 years of being neglected ๐Ÿ˜”. The contrast between old and new is crazy, it's like they're giving the building a brand new personality ๐Ÿ’โ€โ™€๏ธ.

I love that they used historical accurate paint from 1999 - that's dedication! ๐Ÿค“ And can you imagine living in a building where Nat King Cole and Babe Ruth hung out? That's some serious celebrity cred ๐Ÿ˜Ž. The fact that it's not just about aesthetics, but also about preserving the building's integrity is what makes this project so special ๐Ÿ’ฏ.

I'm also stoked to see the impact this will have on future generations ๐ŸŒˆ. Chicago has so much character and charm, and landmarks like Edgewater Beach Apartments are a big part of that. I hope it gets the recognition it deserves - maybe they can even get some TLC from the city's preservation society ๐Ÿคž. Anyway, bring on the pink sunset vibes and let's celebrate this beautiful building! ๐ŸŒ…๐Ÿ‘

I'm actually kinda hyped about the Edgewater Beach Apartments gettin' a fresh new coat of paint ๐ŸŽจ๐ŸŒ…! I mean, 25 years is a long time, and it's awesome that they're bringin' back that signature sunset pink hue ๐Ÿ˜Ž. It's gonna be sick to see the contrast between old and new, like a before-and-after pic ๐Ÿ“ธ. And can we talk about how cool it is that they used paint from 1999 to get the color right ๐Ÿ‘? Like, history in a can, man! ๐Ÿ’• Also, I'm lovin' the idea of extendin' the building's lifespan by another 25 years - that's some serious TLC ๐Ÿคฉ. Chicago's gonna keep its architectural heritage shinin' bright for generations to come! ๐Ÿ”ฅ

Man, can you believe the Edgewater Beach Apartments are finally getting some love? I mean, 25 years without a repaint is like, forever! ๐Ÿคฏ The sunset pink hue just pops against the older, faded wings โ€“ it's like a before-and-after photo in real life. I remember my grandma telling me stories about Nat King Cole and Bette Davis living there back in the day... it's crazy to think those legendary stars are now part of history ๐Ÿ’ญ. And yeah, the paint job is on point โ€“ that elasticity stuff really helps the old building deal with Chicago's weird weather. ๐ŸŒž Let's hope this facelift extends its lifespan and keeps it standing tall for another 25 years or so! โฐ

๐Ÿ ๐Ÿ˜Š I mean, can you believe they're painting the Edgewater Beach Apartments? Like, 25 years hasn't been enough time already? ๐Ÿ™„ But seriously, a sunset pink coat is gonna make it look so fresh and new. And it's cool that they found an old can of paint from 1999 to match the original color. Like, what are the chances, right? ๐Ÿ˜‚ I'm glad the building's getting some TLC because, let's be real, it's been around for ages. I just hope it stays that way and doesn't end up like all those other old buildings in Chicago ๐Ÿคทโ€โ™‚๏ธ. It's gonna be so sweet to see when it's all done next spring! ๐Ÿ’›

I think it's really fascinating how the Edgewater Beach Apartments are giving their iconic 20-story building a major makeover ๐ŸŒ…. The repainting process is like a masterclass in preservation and restoration - they've managed to maintain the original sunset pink hue while also addressing the structural issues that had plagued the building for years. It's amazing how much thought and care has gone into this project, from sourcing historically accurate paint to consulting with experts on the original color palette ๐Ÿค“. I mean, can you imagine living in a building where you're essentially "on vacation" all the time? Sounds like a dream come true! ๐Ÿ˜ด The fact that they're extending the building's lifespan by another 25 years is a huge win for Chicago's architectural heritage - it's wonderful to see such attention to preserving our cultural treasures ๐Ÿ’ฏ.

I'm loving the vibe of this repainted building ! ๐ŸŒ…๐Ÿ  The sunset pink hue really brings out the beauty of that Spanish Revival style. It's so cool how they sourced the historically accurate paint from a can in the basement ๐Ÿ˜‚. It's amazing to think about all the celebrities who've called Edgewater Beach Apartments home, and I'm stoked to see it getting a much-needed facelift ๐ŸŽ‰. As someone who's super into wellness, I'm also thinking about how great it'll be to live in a building with such character and history - there's something so calming about being surrounded by nostalgia ๐Ÿ˜Œ. Can't wait to see the finished result next month ๐Ÿ’–!

I'm so stoked about the Edgewater Beach Apartments' repaint project ๐ŸŽจ๐Ÿ’•! It's like a masterclass in preservation and restoration โ€“ the building's new sunset pink hue is giving off major retro vibes ๐Ÿ’ฅ, and I'm here for it ๐Ÿคฉ! The attention to detail is impressive, from sourcing historically accurate paint to using a special elasticity measure that adapts to Chicago's unpredictable weather conditions โ›”๏ธ. It's clear that the team has put in a ton of effort to ensure this iconic building continues to thrive for another 25 years ๐Ÿ“ˆ. I mean, can you imagine what it would be like to live in a stylish retreat that feels like a perpetual vacation ๐Ÿ–๏ธ? The Maltese Cross-like floor plan and celebrity past are just the cherry on top โ€“ this project is giving me all the nostalgic feels ๐Ÿ˜Š!

๐Ÿ  This paint job is like a mid-term election campaign - fresh coat, new look, same old issues lurking beneath the surface ๐Ÿค”. Structural issues have been a problem for decades, and we're still dealing with those. I'm all for preserving the building's legacy, but where was the funding for these repairs in the first place? It's like they're painting over the underlying problems instead of addressing them. ๐ŸŽจ Still, it's a nice touch, especially the historically accurate sunset pink hue - maybe we can learn from their attention to detail and apply it to our own government's decision-making process ๐Ÿ˜Š.

I'm thinking that repainting the Edgewater Beach Apartments is not just about giving it a fresh new look, but also about preserving the building's history and character ๐Ÿ ๐Ÿ’•. The fact that they used historically accurate sunset pink paint from 1999 is amazing! It's like they're carrying on a tradition.

I'm curious to know what kind of impact this will have on the neighborhood and the community at large. Will it make more people want to visit or live there? ๐Ÿค” Also, I wonder if the building's owners have considered any sustainable or eco-friendly measures to reduce their carbon footprint during the repainting process... we're getting a bit older and our buildings are becoming more important than ever, you know?

It's also pretty cool that this project aims to extend the building's lifespan by another 25 years. That means future generations can still enjoy its beauty and charm for years to come ๐ŸŒŸ

oh man, can u believe the Edgewater Beach Apartments is getting a major facelift?! ๐Ÿคฏ they're repainting the whole thing in that iconic sunset pink hue and it's gonna be SO fire ๐Ÿ’ฅ i mean, who wouldn't wanna live in a building with that sweet aesthetic? ๐Ÿ˜Ž it's crazy they found the exact same paint from 1999 in the basement tho ๐Ÿคช that's dedication to preserving history. and let's be real, who needs structural issues when you've got a dope new coat of paint ๐Ÿ’โ€โ™€๏ธ
